Poker Court case: skill or luck?
The Gutshot poker club I play at in London has been involved in a court case for the last couple of years that is seen as a massive test case for the whole of the UK.
To summarise: the CPS want it closed down because it doesn’t have a casino license. The poker club says that poker is a game of skill, with luck playing only a small part (less than 10%) and so it cannot be compared to things like roulette in casino’s, which are essentially games of chance.
The Gutshot has 20,000 members and it will be a devastating blow to poker in this country if it is closed down. As similar clubs will also be forced to close. On the flipside, if gutshot win, then expect to see poker games in every other pub up and down the country very soon.
Does anyone have an opinion? Or care?
