The Machinist.
I just watched this film after hearing lots and lots of positive recommendations.
I can't say I liked it, because it wasn't a film I enjoyed watching at all. But at the same time, I wouldn't call it bad.
The obvious editing of the colour did its job, but I couldn't get involved in it at all. Bale's character was impossible to connect or relate with and I didn't like him.
Then the end happened. Unlike Donnie Darko, which left me thinking 'I'm going to buy that film tomorrow and watch it again' (which I did), The Machinist left me thinking, 'Oh, so the fat guy maybe didn't exist and was just a personification of Bale's conscience or something.' But to be honest, I wasn't really bothered either way.
What do you think of it? And does anyone have an explanation?
