Religions and Animals
I think the ways some religions look at animals is ridiculous.
For one, I'm totally against the methods in which kosher and halal meat is killed. I understand that as a person that eats meat, I'm buying into shit ways of keeping cattle and poultry. However, the way the animals I eat are killed, despite being something I dislike can't be compared to the ways Jews and Muslims have their animals killed.
I've been reading on Wikipedia about both religions' views on 'Unclean Animals' and they're pretty funny.
You'd think that in the 21st century, even religious groups would've gotten over these silly beliefs about animals. Apparently, Islam teaches dogs are 'dirty' animals, and if they get licked by one, they have to wash five times - the fifth time, they have to wash in dust.
I think in this country, all animals killed for meat should be done in the same way. They should be killed in the most humane ways possible. Outdated beliefs shouldn't get in the way of basic animal welfare.
I understand that in Jewish / Muslim states, they aren't going to ever consider treating cattle humanely, but in a Western civilisation, such practises are barbaric and outdated and should be stopped.
