Albums that have affected you life
...in any way at all.
Got you into a certain genre, emotionally touched you, inspired you specifically. Anything.
Of course, these can be current records that are doing this now!
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
Made me want to write lyrics and in many ways, just be a depressive bastard. I came out well the other side, but to underrate this album as an influence on my life in any way would be foolish.
Miss Black America - God Bless Miss Black America
This is the album that made me want to be in a band and mean something whilst doing it. MBA led me to working at the Anti-Nazi League for a summer, working on anti-racist events and meeting people, after a simple little note on the back of a single encouraged me to find out more. It was and indeed, still is, one of my favourite albums of all time.
Isolee - wearemonster
Truly made me sit up and listen to a massive array of electronic music, thanks in part to the people who post on DiS. I probably listen to as much electronica now as I do guitar bands.
Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty / Ugly Duckling - Journey to Anywhere
The albums that got me deeper and deeper into hip-hop, a genre I still count amongst my favourites. Amazing stuff.
King Crimson - In The Court of the Crimson King
Despite being recorded 15 years before I was even conceived, ITCOTCK drove me to a massive obsession with King Crimson and to an extent, progressive music as a whole. I've probably spent more time listening to this album in the last five years as I have Kid A, Mansun's Six or any of those listened to above. Astounding.
Mansun - Six
Almost as a sideline to King Crimson's debut, Six, being nearly 1hr20mins in length and not possessing a drifting or boring moment at any point made me sit up and realise that music can be so much more than just guitar chords, basslines, drums and vocals. Scarily, I could almost, ALMOST, call it my favourite LP of all time.
There's more, but this will do for now.
