misconceptions about the 'indie scene'
erm..not sure whether this should be in the music section or not, but I got thinking about this the other day. Yesterday my mum and I were watching magic or some rubbish on tv when The Smiths came on. After explaining to her who they were (?!? She was my age in the 80s! How did she not know?!?!), she commented that they were 'tame in comparison to indie nowadays'. I was like 'what?!?'. I know she's never liked the style of music she considers to be 'indie' but she also has these ideas about the whole 'scene' in general - much like many other people I know actually. I had to explain to her that not everyone in an indie band is a drug-addicted idiot like Pete Doherty (who funnily enough she knew - despite not knowing anything about The Libertines/ Babyshambles). I'm not entirely sure where i'm going with this, but it annoys me how all the so-called 'indie scene' *may* seem to have some kind of bad reputation amongst the general public. I don't see why a minor few drug addled idiots should make the 'indie' scene out to be any worse than the rock/metal/r'n'b/even pop scenes.
hmm, anyone else kinda relate here, or even understand what I'm getting at here? At all?
(Not everyone 'indie' or even who just listens to indie music is some wierd drug-addled crazy person with no morals?!? And not every band sounds like bloody oasis/the libertines/blur or whatever!)
