Tonight I are get drunk and see Sigur Ros
I posted my review from last.fm cos i'm lazy. We got drunk and somehow managed to get cut price tickets for a band i've never found interesting ever. Anyway...
The support band Amina were superfantastich. They were running all over the place playing strings, bells, wine glasses and a musical saw among other things. The music wasn't bad either!
Sigur Rós were very disappointing though. I really wanted to be moved by their performance, but I wasn't.
It was all very sterile. I could see the loud bits coming a mile off and the cool childlike singing was made to look rubbish thanks to some very predictable chord changes and melodies going on behind it. Often in post rock (or whatever it's called these days) you can get away with these obvious changes live with sheer passion and intensity but I didn't detect very much of those two things at all. I was very bored around half an hour in and even with a mini marching band patrolling the stage and some cool images/video projected onto a curtain behind (or sometimes in front of) the band they didn't hold my interest.
After a wonderful fake encore (evil) they came back on and midway through the last song of the evening there was a long drum break and then they started kicking arse! Five minutes later though it was all finished. Maybe they started to kick arse towards the end to try and convince me that the arsekicking had been there ever since they came on stage. A million years previously.
No dice Sigur Rós! You were boring!
Anyone else go?
