Seriously...you dun seem to bitch bout pop nearly as much when korn has been going for many years and has fans oh yes shock horror they have fans seriously bitch bout somefing that deserves to b bitched about like pop,rnb or rap.

    The same thing that's wrong with any genre like that. It's a single, unimaginative idea with a massive marketing budget sold as a fashion accessory to a target demographic.

    As for pop, r'n'b or rap "deserving" to be bitched about...that's one of the most stupidly prejudiced comments I've ever heard on this site. The hip-hop pantheon has been responsible for some of the most compelling, innovative and downright great music of the last fifteen years - everything from Public Enemy and the Dust Brothers to El-P and cLOUDDEAD.

    It's like Jet being proud to hate all electronic music. It's both dumb and insulting, especially when they themselves are flogging one poorly-executed, over-advertised and completely unoriginal idea to a group of sad little stereotypes. Much like all the nu-metal bands, really...

        the best of nu-metal is rubbish (as in it all sounds the same, same whiney lyrics, same chords -mostly. its much harder to push nu-metal forward as a genre and create new exciting sounds), the best of hip-hop and pop is good :]

        i don't mind some nu metal.. Linkin Park are listenable.. but stuff like Korn is just boring.. how many samey albums do you need? and stuff like Ill Nino...
        To sum up all good 'nu' metal you can say 4 words: Rage Against The Machine
        and thats it really.
        I agree that Hip-Hop is the one genre where people are pushing things forward.

            Yeh but no. Theyre sort of more just emotional rock(but not emo) with rap bits in. Chop Suey is just the dog's bollocks really, its brill.

              I'll stand up and admit to being, to a certain degree at least, a 'nu-metal' fan but just generally they shouldn't be the feeling that you'll be mocked for your taste of music especially within a genre such as rawk. I got into rock through Linkin Park and have no problem with Trustcompany, Papa Roach, Cold and the like certainly not to a point where i'd judge anyone for listening to them. All those bastard 10 year old 'mini moshers' with slipknot hoodies are what gave it a bad name and 'Timmy' or whatever your username is,as much as brave you were for starting this thread you are totally conforming to the nu-metal fan uneducated 'wut iz wif' steriotype... but yeh lay off nu-metal as with most artists the hearts round about in the right place...

                To the dude/dudette who started this thread-

                People rip Nu-Metal because, in the 'serious music fan' world, Nu Metal is unfashionable. It's mainly about fashion, they need to be up to the minute on what is odd and different, some Nu Metal is plain shit, but that doesn't matter to these guys, if it appeals to people they don't like, they they won't like.

                These guys want to be seen as different, or to be into really fashionable bands such as Fugazi, cLOUDDEAD or Drive Like Jehu etc. Now don't get me wrong, these bands are progressive, they rock, they make amazing music, but that's not what these people are about at all, I could record myself scraping shit out of my asshole, and they'd lap it up.

                It's all about the ever-lasting journey to coolness.

                Nu-Metal is too famous, too main-stream for these kids, and they'd happily miss out on some good music to stay cultured and stay underground.

                Very judgemental on my part, i'm sure you're not all like that, I just know so many who are.

                Btw dude, if you like Nu-Metal, you're about to get into Some crazy jazzcore heavy metal shit, and probably some hardcore, check out 'Refused' and 'The Dillinger Escape Plan' for starters, if you already haven't!

                  Yeah, I agree with you to an extent. I think, though, that whilst there is an element of "who can be the most obscure" in there, most "serious music fans" - in my experience - don't like nu-metal because it's unimaginative, uninteresting and generally a bit fake.

                  I don't like the whole cooler-than-thou thing. Sometimes I find those kinds of zines are the only way to find a lot of decent music, but in the end there's mainstream stuff I'd way rather listen to than the next installment of tuneless New England electro-noise.

In that case you wouldn't like any dance music since fatboy slim is a bit commercial and boring, and don't even bother listening to any rock since the darkness are total crap. Or why not simplify things some more and write off all music because of cliff richard?

        How can you say you hate RnB music and Hip-Hop? Nu-Metal takes it's roots from Black Music. Listen to Limp Bizkit and come back and tell me that they're not rapping. You must have something in your ears.

          Nu-metal - forgive me for sounding like a pillock, but isn't it getting a bit old to be called 'nu'? I read something in Kerrang! about Bodies by Drowning Pool basically being a nu-metal jingle-a-thon, and as far a sweeping generalisations go, you could apply 'jingleism' to the genre as a whole.

          Sure, some people will deliberately shy away from nu-metal because it just isn't cool enough, but for the most part, people don't bother with it because it's the lowest common denominator. Simple as that, really.

            Fucking hell, leave off the kid about his typing! No one's noticed that 'Cigarets' isnt spelt like that in the real world.

            What will happen in nu-metal is that all the nu-metal kids, skaters, whatever that started it and made it famous will drift towards Emo if they havent already. Sadly Emo, despite being shit will be in the mainstream at least, the biggest rock genre of 2004.

              Or, are they not Emo anymore? I can't keep up with the lable thing.

              I think a lot of the so called emo bands are really good, At the drive-In and The Icarus Line for example, although, I wouldn't know if they're really emo or not.

              Oh and don't get me wrong, I know people disslike a lot of emo for it being a stale music for in general, but a lot of people don't really care about what the music sounds like itself. I thought the deftones had a cool and original sound, I can't name anyone who has done that before?

                Emo is the new Punk, in that noboddy knows how to define it right now. Everyone knows that Sunny Day Real Estate are 'emo' but what makes them Emo?

                All this screamo stuff will be big this year, yeah, but as long as its all good, who cares? I don't think its in any danger of becoming commercial, because how commercial can you make things like The Blood Brothers?

                I also think that a lot of these people who want to be into the scene and whats new in the last 5 minutes will begin to get into hip-hop, because as already stated, boundaries are rarely being pushed elsewhere.

    Nothing's wrong with nu-metal. People get into the scene through nu-metal and so people who have or think they have been in the scene longer look down on them, for reasons I don't know.
    Plus, this new popular "emo" scene is pretty much just a variation on nu-metal anyway and you don't see many people bitch about it...except, of course, the hardcore kids!

    I've no probs with it, it's just it'sgone through the whole grunge thing, where the media (not pointing any fingers)slapped the label on any band with down-tuned guitars and drug "issues". The bigger question is What the Hell is Nu Metal anyway? The whole love affair with bands with DJ's and rap rhythms is gone -look at Limpdik, who have finally hit that crossroads of deciding whether to whinge about mummy and daddy or to write about something actually worth something. Whether it works or not, is a totally separate issue. Bands are now starting to veer back to the more classic metal sound (a la F4AF and Chimaira)And thank god for it
    Mind you, it will be interesting to see how the forthcoming Slipknot Album does.
