Mike Flowers Pops - Wonderwall
Not difficult for it to be better I suppose. Actually got a copy of the Mike Flowers version somewhere. Think it cost me about 20p iirc.
To answer your question, I prefer the Futurehead's version of Hounds of Love to be honest.
Cake - I Will Survive
Big Black - The model
The Gods - Hey Bulldog
The White Stripes - Good To Me
Butthole Surfers - The Hurdy Gurdy Man

i am enjoying her soundcloud page
Bobby Conn drags 'Without You' in to a pit of despair and self loathing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ya4VAX_ufrA
and the original. all 3 and probably every other version is amazing.
I'm on the way to her gig now. I hope she plays it.
Nine Inch Nails - Get Down Make Love (Queen)
Creedence Clearwater Revival - I Heard It Through The Grapevine
Tool - No Quarter (Led Zep)
I've always thought it was way too slow to the point of being ænemic.
Nick Cave - Something's Gotten Hold of my Heart
Al Green - How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?
His take on "A Case of You" is worth digging for.
St. Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart (www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZAajrxvDs4)
This Mortal Coil - You And Your Sister (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsm3NYBhvSY)

Elvis Costello & The Attractions - (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RVDQgVxprE) (technically not really a cover version, as Nick Lowe made this version together wit Costello)
Them - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyn8BJ1Uvzw)
The Flamingos - I Only Have Eyes For You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvzNeh4Mq1o)

Scott Walker - Jackie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUS1XDIIhTE)
easily better than any New Order or Joy Division version.
Easily better than the Eiffel 65 original.
devo - (I can't get no) satisfaction
Hole - Credit In The Straight World
I also really like Open Mouth's cover of Love Buzz
Neko Case - Runnin Out Of Fools (I had a massive argument with someone about this once)
Sludgefeast - SOS
John Cale - Heartbreak Hotel
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
Pixies - Head On
Cos of Steve Albini's Zippo.
Legit surprised that nobody has mentioned the almost-cliche "Hurt", done by Johnny Cash.
But not quite as good as the xiu xiu version
Cash's version is excellent, but Trent's original is the best. If you've ever witnessed it live, it's incredibly moving.
A band that knew how to take a song and really make it their own.
Galaxie 500 - Ceremony
Another band which could do exactly the same
love that song
I can't agree more about the This Mortal Coil version of You And Your Sister.
Might be my favourite recording by anyone ever.
They did loads of Burt Bacharach songs and stuff like that. It was fun. After they played Wonderwall, he said "and if you bought the original, I hope you kept your receipt". I decided I liked him after that.
the Oasis cover of I Am The Walrus on Jools Holland beats the original
his version is schmaltzy and awful
than the original (and has Oldham doing the backing vocals which is awesome).
Baby Doll was an album track on In Search Of..., and the (I)NC made it into the greatest song in the world.
Baby Doll (live)
on The Crow: City of Angels OST.
Quality 90s soundtrack: you also had Bush doing In A Lonely Place by Joy Division. That was produced by Tricky, so it didn't sound like them at all and it was actually really good.
Amazing. Absolutely beautiful.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xr8ol8ufSRg will always beat the Beatles' for me.
