I don't, though a few years ago I would have said *klaxon* Radiohead. Never listen to them now though.
"Changed my life" etc etc etc. They pretty much did though. In many ways. I could easily write an essay on it but I'll probably refrain.
painters. reasons as above.
inactive band = mars volta
DJ/producer = Aphex twin
Queen, Oasis, Green Day (in that order), then it all branched out post-14 into all sorts of crazy shit. I don't have a single active band any more that I can think of, they have all let me down in one way or another...
With Saint Etienne and Bjork as close runners up
At any time, I'll probably be in a phase of listening to one or two bands way more than anything else, though.
But I tend to have bands that better reflect certain moods or times of the year. If someone were to ask me that question this evening I'd reply that I'm currently heavily playing Melody's Echo Chamber and The National. But that'd change in a month's time, probably.
All-time, I'd have to say Pixies, although in truth I hardly ever listen to them these days. Right now, I'd probably say Grizzly Bear.
I've heard it all, so don't bother...
I salute your choice sir.
nine Inch Nails
A Place To Bury Strangers
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
I love the other bands too, bat Tool are way out in front as my favouite band.
if someone asked i'd probably just say Brand New
switches back and forth every so often. I think GBV have more individually great songs and I love their story and legend, but MM are just more consistently great over those first 3 albums
(* probably is actually, haven't checked)
Bob Dylan, easily my favorite artist.
Tough call if actually a band - Oasis, The Clash, REM are up there
Then The Smiths were my favourite band and I was loyal to them like I am to my football team - with a fierce, tribal devotion.
I'll never have a favourite band like that again. There's probably a group of 10-20 bands and artists who I like enough to own everything by, can't conceive of not buying a new record by and will always try to see live if I can.
It's a never-ending struggle between Cardiacs and Kayo Dot
I'm going for Mansun today, followed by Fugazi and then (in ascending order):
The Mars Volta
Right Now ? The Walkmen or The National, probably. British Sea Power would be a close third.
Kayo Dot are in my top 20
I could just listen to it all day, I want to listen to all their random old records and live stuff and get excited about new releases. I think that counts.
Lol at all your favourite bands btw
dunno if I would say so any more though
but I couldn't honestly say that to be true anymore. We're still in love, we just don't ya know, see all that much of each other, on record or live. For a couple of years I could say it was Arcade Fire and whilst they're still in the top 5 passion is also waining. Perhaps the new record could reignite that.
As usual bornin69 has said my thoughts - there's a bunch of bands I'm mad for but not one stands out as a favourite over the others.
Based on music alone - Sigur Rós
Based on the whole package - Hope of the States, always.
I'm like a lot of folks here, after Dylan, there are multiple artists/bands I love - would/have seen live, have all their albums, buy any new stuff - I can't pinpoint just one. I like a lot of newer artists (National, Foals, Hold Steady are a few), but their output isn't enough so far for me to say that I like them as much as an artist that I've seen live at least once and have half dozen or more of their albums....at some point, probably so
My top 5
And I missed APTBS off
I just like them all for so many different reasons.
Sonic Youth, MBV, Pavement, Blur, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins
But there are still times when they don't really do it for me...so I don't know if I could use the word "favourite"
Active artist - Joanna Newsom
Always and forever. Since the day I first heard 'Slow Nerve Action' I've loved them.
it's probably The Fall now.
But when pressed to name some favorite modern bands, I usually start with Broken Social Scene.
"Normal" people may not get YFIIP in its entirety, but if person doesn't grasp the awesomeness of the hit songs, T=C and Almost Crimes, then person and I would never find common ground.
Also. I still don't understand why they broke-up broke-up. Does anyone know the inside scoop of this?
Don't even have a favourite genre
Everything depends on context
my answer is Ride
or The Fall
now it's Grandaddy/Radiohead/Pavement/The Smiths four way tie. Shhh
I think they are the only (established) acts that I own everything they've made.....(within budget....)
my favourite bands in the past have included The Vines, Morning Runner and Thirteen Senses. Don't have one atm though.
but of course it's not about winning - it's about FRUGGING
just for overall excellence/colourfulness/humour/lifeaffirmingness/execution/originality
and also maybe Lightning Bolt for the same stuff. To me they are sort of similar bands.
but I probably don't have a favourite really
To mention Radiohead & The Fall being her favourite bands with this thread as the source.
