Hi guys, it's jaw on the floor time.
Forest Swords is back, on TriAngle.
Incredible track. Everything about it.
He was ace supporting Tim Hecker last year.
this is very great. I'm not sure what it even sounds like, but I love it. Sort of weird exotic gospel hip hop. Or something.
has to be said is the perfect label for his sound.
He has a very distinct sound despite superficially sounding like a lot of other stuff around at the moment.
So good. Album coming August 26th, 'Engravings', on Tri Angle.
Just in case it isn't what it could be. But still can't help wanting it to be the greatest debut in forever. Triangle are on a roll at the moment. Is this album is anything like Haxan Cloak, as an Album album, then......see. Trying to keep it in check.
great song tho
EPs arent 8 tracks and 42 minutes long
My OESB Dagger Paths 12" only has 6 tracks though.
Dagger Paths was basically a singles comp with two extra tracks (even the 8 track version) so not really a debut album is what I meant
Let's move on
love both tracks so far, if the rest of the album meets the same standard...
Triangle have released some of my favorite records over the last few years (Balam Acab, Vessel, Haxan Cloak) and they've signed Wife who's ep on Left Blank last year was absolutely sublime
Picked that up for on wax £7 brand new in Urban Outfitters of all places the other day.
Worth checking out their records that are on sale by the way, I got Held along with inc.'s album and Anxiety by Autre Ne Veut (limited to 1500) for £22 altogether - people literally only go in there to buy xx and Florence records to leave lying around their flat it seems so they have to flog the good shit off cheap.
they have a name in common.
I nearly bought the first album (mini album/ep/comp/whatever) but never got round to it, I'll have to get hold of it
Have been awaiting this with baited breath for quite some time now.
A release is what the artists says it is. Further debate is just sad.
turns out this upcoming album is brilliant. Like some kinda extended prayer to the gods. 75% sure this guy is some ancient shaman or something.
though im guessing it'll be streamed pretty soon since it's out in a few weeks. It's really impressive anyway.
Listening to these two tracks again got me over excited. The Weight Of Gold is fucking fantastic.
25 days, and counting.
I am way more excited about this than the Factory Floor album.
why the album was announced so late, if that makes sense? Most LPs get a huge run-up. Stuff for October and November is being announced right now. This was only just over a month. Bit odd
Some major releases are announced 6 months in advance, some get no promo at all, even on the same label. With smaller/independent labels it's often a shorter lead-up time as they don't do as much promo as bigger labels, but it all sort of depends on the whole. This was obviously announced after the album was all ready to go, whereas a lot of records get a release date before they've even been recorded to build up the hype.
don't remember ever reading a release date on Soundcloud before and thinking "shit, that's pretty soon". Suppose it makes sense for smaller indies maybe
and to Engravings as his debut album.
and ask I suppose. I've always thought of it just as an extended EP/mini album. It never felt like a full length LP to me
When albums leak, why don't the artists just bring forward the digital release date?? I'm sure there's a reason...
so it kinda undermines that to just release it immediately, especially as a leak for such a small artist will probably only be accessed by a small amount of people. And now that we have so much pre-release streaming etc, do leaks really damage album sales as much as they once did? Aren't we used to hearing albums in full before we buy them?
not a huge progression from Dagger Paths but he has a sound and he does it very well. bit of drift here 'n there but largely nails it.
last track is amazing, probably his best yet.
Years ago, I liked to have the CD. Nowadays i'm less bothered, so if i've downloaded a leak i'm unlikely to buy the MP3s. But given the choice between scrabbling round filestube and buying them off iTunes, i'll always opt for iTunes.

Same weekend as the Liverpool Psych Fest.
Really really really looking forward it.
just don't miss the 's' off the url. or at least not when anyone else is in the room.
