Bands getting into fights with their fans
Or anyone really. I'm thinking Keef hitting that guy with his Telecaster, John Homme pushing that bloke off the stage. And now, a new one, with a righteous political theme:
Feel free to share any other incidents here, whether you've been there personally or otherwise.

Someone link to the vid of the Big Pink(?) singer
knocking out a heckler. That always gets some brilliantly black and white opinions going.
Here he is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fh5jBrcsBaw
What a cunt
Which one? The singer or the heckler?
I love how strongly people feel about this either way.
if anyone feels that guy is in the right
they're objectively a bellend in all walks of their life
which one?
:D
This is exactly what i'm talking about.
It's the indie equivalent of stand or sit.
I just can't believe that someone would think that sort of behaviour was acceptable
i know, the stage is for bands only.
:D
awesome
that's what live music's all about really
um
no it isn't?
Surprise, chance, aggression, pigheadedness, ego, attitude, danger, errors, flaws, conflict, challenge, principle...
yeah it is
John Homme?
Bronhomme.
Weird!
You'd think I'd be used to typing that name out correctly.
THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE TYPING HEEEERRRRREEEEE
j-ho yelling at that kid and calling him a faggot
was really ugly and 'orrible
lost a bit of respect for him after that
Eugene from Oxbow used to be notorious for this
He's toned it down a bit now though.
This
But I did think he was going to punch a girl who was heckling at the Sal Mineo show at cafe Oto last month

Ha
Another reason to love John Dwyer.
including fighting with himself:
GG Allin.
Good story about Henry Rollins biting a fan in Get in the Van
While I strongly anti-nazi
it does sound pretty full-on brutal what he did to that guy. I'd be surprised if he doesn't have a knock on his door from a couple of officers after that.
I'm never leaving my flat again
Jay Reatard
was always fighting people in the crowd wasn't he? I seem to remember a video of him kicking a lad in the face.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRjoEtF--JU
End of the video.
Fighting in Toronto with some dude during My Shadow
At 1.35 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzhCiEl4RK4
Promoter even gets in on the act at the 5min mark.
Maynard James Keenan from Tool
deals with stage invader pretty effectively...
http://youtu.be/LKrUaY6hgpM?t=2m38s
I love how he continues to sing the song while wrestling with the guy
not quite a kicking
but isn't there a video of the drummer from million dead pulling a heckler out of the crowd and scaring the shit out of him?
There is!
If memory serves me right, the drummer dragged the offending youth onto the stage and said "lick this shit off my cymbal now" (or words to that effect) before he was kicked out by security. Anyone have a link?
that's the one!
it used to be on youtube but can't find the link now
Saw Evan Dando
Try to attack a guy in the audience after a solo gig in New Zealand. Suspect the guy had been heckling him, but still bit of an over-reaction.
Ha! I was there for that
Despite how ridiculous it sounds, it was genuinely ugly scenes as the hecklers mates and several Lemonheads fans did battle, with Dando flailing around in the middle.
not quite a fight but here's a video of Anthony Green (Circa Survive)
pushing a drunken fan off the stage
http://youtu.be/2yacpkXmceA
serves him right for liking the dropkick murphys
:D
Fugazi
ejecting that dumb punk kid
calling tough guys ice cream eating motherfuckers
:DD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUOvnbCtnVQ
so good
I love that man
Nothing like getting smashed over the head with a bass guitar
Kicks off abotu 2:30

a classic
James Dean Bradfield was apparently quite handy back in the day
I imagine hanging around Richey & Nicky in their 'wearing their aunties blouse' days could get quite interesting at times, there are a few stories around of people starting on one or the other and not realising that they had 5'5" of Welsh valleys nutter backing them up, Simon Price's book about the Manics mentions him once headbutting a guy clean off the stage who had made a beeline for Richey too.
Dude from Retox
laid into someone at their show at CAMP last year.
you got a link?
well let's not forget that karma got to the big pink
the 'creative' one left recently to concentrate on his own label so the little sucker punch one is now jobless
definitely because of that incident
rather than the mediocrity of their music
These guys got nothing on Akon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FPESUPCabY
I remember this purely because
it was referred to, in the US media at least, as 'Akon tossing off a fan'
Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse)
Not fighting the fan but trying to fight the security guard who was being heavy handed with fans
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ComnfQQ7A4 you cant see much but you can hear an audible cheer at 26 seconds. He deserved it btw, he was being really rough with the crowd (I was at this gig)
Surely Anton Newcombe is the standard answer for this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFG1SX_5A2U
There was a thread on here following a TODD gig at the Lexington that I went to,
Where a guy in the crowd was picked on at random and had his collarbone broken. It went beyond 'punk' into nasty.
Here it is.
There are a couple of posts missing from the band themselves - not sure why they've been deleted now though:
http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4162956
I asked the band at the time
on this, just because I asked them about it and they set me straight, they were genuinely mortified about the incident and had apologised profusely, they were/are very decent people. And, as the thread says, the long knife Craig used to brandish was indeed plastic.
Given I watched Craig Clause's other bank (Shit and Shine) be relentlessly torn into and interrupted by some little shit of a heckler one time, I think everyone at that show felt that would have been an acceptable time to smash that guy's face in, but Craig was amazingly restrained.
If I remember correctly,
the posts from the guy in the band were apologetic. I don't know why they were deleted though.
apparently this just happened..
http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/03/watch-dropkick-murphys-beat-up-a-nazi-on-stage/
nazis jump up to get beat down
sorry, i'm an idiot
next time i will read the ENTIRE original post.
cheers!
What I have learnt from this thread
Is that it's alright to kick the shit out of your fans if you're in a cool band, but if you're in The Big Pink then that's shit not acceptable. Hmm.
here we go!
*that shit's :(
Someone ended one of my sets by wrestling me to the ground in a large net
but they weren't a fan I guess so maybe doesn't count.
Wile E. Cayote?
Surely
The ethos of Cementimental is not to have fans? Or are you now going after the middle class dinner party crowd?
<safety wink, obviously>
Don't ever throw a beer at Angus Young
He'll tweak you in the nose
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo5-sQYXaJA
That classic one where Kurt stage dives
and security gets heavy handed with him. He apparently supposedly didn't know it was him. Not sure how that could possibly happen...
