The Men
Thoughts on new album? Anyone off to see them in London tomorrow night?
Last couple times I saw them live they played very little off the LP's they just released. Wonder if that's changed... Also took a while to get into New Moon as I prefer the angrier/louder stuff, but it has really grown on me.

Seeing them tomorrow night
with a friend who has submitted to their charms after I'd spent a year bombarding him with their stuff. I saw them last year at Field Day and they were immense but you're right, they only played about three songs that had already been released (from Open Your Heart & Leave Home).
Feel the same about New Moon too - kind of actively disliked it on first listen, but I percevered and it's way more rewarding than I first found. Classic 'grower' I guess.
Seeing them tomorrow too, first time
Going solo I think, unless I can convince anyone to come with. Mainly hoping for some good ones from Open Your Heart, would love to see them play Animal.
Still not completely sold on New Moon to be honest, hopefully seeing some of it live will convince me! That said, the last couple took a while to grow on me too.
Oh, what's the venue like? I've only been in the main room at the Garage.
They were great last week
The songs I don't like made more sense live. Think they opened with Supermoon
didn't like the new album at all
which was a shame because I loved the two before
Going tomorrow
Disliked the new album until about yesterday (well, not disliked, but thought it was a bit weak). Clicked. Massively looking forward to it. Hope they play a fair bit of Open Your Heart songs though, they are the best. Excited about Parquet Courts opening too.
Never been upstairs at the Garage either
Until today I assumed it was downstairs. Parquet Courts should also be great, love that record.
It is downstairs - getting the garage to update their site.
less than 50 tickets left for those who still need to grab one via http://www.atpfestival.com/events/themengarage.php
Who are Nude Beach?
and why are they playing after Parquet Courts?
Ahhh this is great news!
Nude Beach are brilliant, they released a record last year called 'II' which has some of the most catchy garage-pop songs I've ever heard, have supported The Men a lot stateside, but didn't think they'd come over here!
yeah
kind of bummed that Parquet Courts have been downgraded from main support to opener, as I'm coming from Oxford after work and am probably keener to see them than I am the headliner. Hope I can get there on time.
I suspect, for better or for worse, that they are either friendly with the band or the promoter and it's to make sure Nude Beach get a big crowd.
8pm!
That's a nuisance. Be in a bit of a rush to get there now - Nude Beach is a bonus though, quite enjoyed that record. Top lineup though http://i.imgur.com/uYBjB.gif
I interviewed Mark Perro the other day
Apparently he’s dropped guitar and will be playing piano throughout the set, with any pre-New Moon songs reworked to accommodate that. They’ve also written most of their fifth album so will be playing plenty of the new shit.
Just read the interview with him on your blog
Definitely one of the most revealing interviews I've seen with any of the band (past or present). Good work.
Thanks matt_
Very kind. Link here for orangejuice: http://exclaim.ca/Interviews/WebExclusive/men_2
link please?
I forgot the Rough Trade instore was yesterday.
Oh damn.
No sooner than Nude Beach added...
They appear to be no longer playing. Parquet Courts now on a bit later, Jamie?

the Men keep farting out too many records for me to keep up with
That was great
Felt like a Men best of, covered everything of note from each record. Fantastic. Parquet Courts were also a lot of fun, really wish I could get a ticket to them headlining with Sauna Youth and Cold Pumas tonight. Top gig.
Agreed
both sets fantastic, great fun show.
The Men's bassist looks a bit like a young Ricky Gervais.
