Has there ever been a pretentious album that's also been a classic?
The Holy Bible and most Fall albums. Yep, I said it. I'm only half-joking. I am also so bored tonight I'm trolling my own conscience.

The Holy Bible's not really pretentious.
It's a guy with a severe mental illness spewing words out. Which might sound a bit unusual in translation but I certainly wouldn't call pretentious.
Similarly, even ignoring the question of whether most Fall albums are classics, isn't the whole schtick mean to be being anti-Pretentious?

Ironic or not, what I said before I take back and apologise for.
They are one of my favourite bands and it is seriously one of my favourite albums.. was just being my usual self-deprecating self.. but I'd never genuinely call it "pretentious"... whilst writing this particular post it never crossed my mind about the torment poor Richey was suffering whilst that was written. Sorry.
Dog Man Star's a great shout though - it's overblown and with sometimes nonsense lyrics but it suits Brett's drama queen personality no end.

I think if ANY album is pretentious, it's probably The Drift. That thing is INSANE and all over the place. I feel like it was designed to push you away, to the point that I'm sure a lot of people pretend to like it because they think it makes you smart, or something.
