Great Roadtrip Albums
I tend to love the rockier albums for long journeys, and one I always end up putting on is Doolittle, it tends to lend itself quite well to being blasted down a country road at high speeds. Listening to the new MBV album with the windows down and as loud as possible was also pretty amazing. Especially driving through the fog covered mountains and under the starry night to 'Is This and Yes'. Chili's are pretty good roadtrip material too.
What do you tend to put on before going on a roadtrip? Feel free to post some good roadtrip playlists below too.

Chromatics...
...work great at night, driving thru the city...obvs.
curiously, Suzanne Vega's Solitude Standing once soundtracked a trip thru the Lake District which has always stuck with me.
or if i'm driving home hungover, Toumani Diabete's Kora works a treat, especially in relation to calming road rage.
listening to chromatics in the car is probably more dangerous than texting and driving
(because you see i'm saying i'd fall asleep)
(because their music is boring)
(lol)
haha.
i was recently stuck in a vehicle with someone who played Mumford & Sons on repeat.
he was my boss so i couldn't say shit.
awful trip.
I like Sufjan's Illinois
I listened to it once over an hour long ride through country lanes, in the height of summer just as the sun was setting. Still reminds me of it now when I listen to it back.
haha, came on here to say this
listened to it a lot when I did the whole 'travelling across America on a Greyhound bus' thing. incredible.
Modest Mouse - This Is A Long Drive
ultimate American road trip album in my mind, all tough and dusty
Lonesome Crowded West is equally suitable
driving along an American highway to Trucker's Atlas or Ohio
= the sound of perfection
REM
when i was little my family drove the length of Norway to the Arctic Circle
and back down through Sweden
the trip was soundtracked by
Jethro Tull Aqualung
Dire Straits Brothers In Arms
Guns'n'Roses Appetite for Destruction
A Best Of Motown Compilation
A Hits Of The 70s Compilation
A Hawkwind Compilation
and a Jethro Tull Best Of
and Led Zep IV
the trip was just over two weeks
The War on Drugs - Slave Ambient
Yes!

New MBV blasting with the windows down?
Mate, it's February! Bloody Bawchank out there!
Driving home from Edinburgh last week, was night time and rainy. Burial's untrue proved to be excellent driving music.
Always drive with the windows down
Unless it is properly pissing down
It's summer in Nu Zeeland, maaate!
knew this was coming as soon as I hit 'post'
in that case, good call!
This is how English people must feel when someone corrects them for referring to the UK as England
:)
I think this is a bit more understandable though. I think the equivalent would be if you called me Australian or something. But even then that's not as bad I don't think
Songs for the Deaf
late afternoon > evening
No way man
evening is way better than afternoon
evening > night > early afternoon > late afternoon > morning
Might liveblog them tomorrow.
Born in the USA
Japandroids - Celebration Rock
Guided By Voices best-of
Titus Andronicus - The Monitor
Except in reality I never get to choose cos I can't drive
The only motivation for getting my driving licence is the idea that one day I might be able to fly to the States, hire a convertible and drive the interstates blasting out Springsteen
i was just about to do that this summer but turns out it's actually pretty damn expensive
for the hire and petrol and stuff, actually cheaper to just fly everywhere. Will miss the romantic idea of the roadtrip, but really, a 16 hour trip from Washington to Miami just sounds soooo long
all of these.
I came to say Celebration Rock and The Monitor.
Michael Rother- Katzenmusik
fer sure
Born To Run (as obvious as it is)
Vanishing Point
Highway 61 Revisited
Lust For Life
Killing The Moonlight
Pet Sounds
Innervisions
Swim
Vanishing Point is such a good shout
Swim is a great shout
I miss night drives, when I'm shattered and just want to speed towards all oncoming headlights in a desperate race to get home. Swim and Vanishing Point both fit that perfectly. As does Massive Attack's Mezzanine.
Indie Rock is always great for long roadtrips
MBV, Pavement, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies all do the trick for me.
The odd electronic album such as Music Has the Right to Children by Boards of Canada and Entroducing... by DJ Shadow is also good for me (more so at night than during day).
Entroducing at night is pretty amazing
along with We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves by John Maus, great driving at night music, makes things pretty eerie too if you live in a smallish town with not much traffic
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
Sublime.
Slave Ambient
The Jesus and Mary Chain- Automatic
Neu!- S/T
Kyuss- Sky Valley
Iggy & The Stooges- Raw Power
The Replacements- Tim
Husker Du- Candy Apple Grey
Television- Marquee Moon
Buzzcocks- Singles
Jefferson Airplane- Surrealistic Pillow
John Fahey- 59-77
Leo Kottke- 6 & 12 string Guitar
Bert Jansch- Jack Orion
Love- Forever Changes
Creedence Clearwater Revival- Any good compilation
Boards of Canada
Gas
Manuel Göttsching- E2-E4/ Inventions for Electrical Guitar
I imagine some of this lot would carry me across a couple of continents happily.
This is a great list
There's a couple on there I don't know which I'll be trying out in the car though.
This list also reminded me how good Mercury Rev's 'Deserter's Songs' is for driving.
Crash Test Dummies - God Shuffled His Feet
Doves - Lost Souls
Doves - The Last Broadcast
Wooden Shjips...
...any album, they all sound the same.
Road trips are all about the shuffle button.
I am not an album guy on road trips. Just crank out the hits imo.
