Cocteau Twins
OK, so I just fell totally in love with Heaven or Las Vegas. Listened to it three times now while writing an essay. I've had Treasure for years and quite enjoyed it, especially the first few tracks, but it never grabbed me like this.
I don't necessarily like HoLV more because you can make out Liz's lyrics better (I actually really like her vocal style on Treasure) but I think I just like the overall mood more, less gothic and a bit more pop.
So...where next? I've heard they're supposed to be a great EP band as well. Just tried listening to Head Over Heels and didn't enjoy it as much. Cheers in advance for any suggestions :)
(PS, this was all sparked off by missing Robin Guthrie and Mark Gardener on Monday, heard it was great)

Blue Bell Knoll.
Tiny Dynamine and
Echoes in a Shallow Bay are two amazing EPs from '85
you should also listen to Victorialand
probably
The EP's are collected on Lullabies to Violaine
Volume 1 only has one track from an album (Sugar Hiccup) and is otherwise chock full of magic. The other album you should hear is Blue Bell Knoll, I love Garlands but it doesn't sound like you'd enjoy it much.
man cocteau twins are special
Blue Bell Knoll
is their best album in my opinion, the one where it all comes together beautifully.
Garlands
I'm being serious. It's ace.
Cheers guys
I'm listening to Blue Bell Knoll now, magical stuff. Carolyn's Fingers is amazing. Think I'm just gonna work backwards from here.
go for lullabies as mentioned above next
you'll get a feel for the different eras & can then pick from there which you like best
bbk was defo the best option after holv, as it was next chronologically, but dont't continue this path to the next ones (i relaise you said you were going to work backwards)
:) it is isnt it
I'm not jealous as such
Because I've loved them for 28 years and they've always been my favourite band, but to be hearing these tracks for the first time- lucky, lucky you. :D
try the album "4 calendar cafe" as well
I think that the EPS collection is an excellant thing to get as well, it obviously has some earlier gothy stuff and also some later shimmery stuff......but also has some stuff in the middle where she shrieks so beautifully
Like from thje EP Akeia Guinea and pepper tree eps.
Excellant sort of Jazzy piano and shrieks on one of these
