I think I'm going on the Saturday.
:D
Loads of good things will probably clash though :(
Coal Chamber?
Dear oh dear...
of all the nu-metal bands that me and my friends were into at the time
Coal Chamber are easily the most painful and embarrassing to listen back to today
Listening now.
Incredible.
rum-na-hum-na-hm-na -ramna-hee-oh mmmmm LOCO mmmm LOCO
Hahah could only last one song.
Big Truck?
Shock The Monkey (oh Ozzy, why?!?)
P.O.D.
Wow.
There really aren't enough famous rock bands in the world to have this festival every year, are there? That line up could have come out almost in its entirety any time in the last decade, and in most cases I think it has. I worked at the festival in 2007 and that's an awful lot of the same names.
I think Metallica, Maiden and Slipknot just take turns on a revolving headliner basis
I know...
I think you could squeeze it together a bit and make an absolutely stunning (in terms of that style) 2 day festival from that line-up.
I guess there's the market for it though,,.
It makes sense if you think that on the whole it's a younger crowd,
kids just getting in to rock/metal music and this is a one-stop primer for a lot of the big names from the last 10, 20, maybe even 30 years (plus an excuse to sleep in a field and smoke cheap resin off a Fosters can), but I'm staggered it's so sustainable when there's such a lack of diversity from one year to the next. I mean, even the tiny stage at the bottom, which you'd expect to be fostering the upstarts, has the likes of the ten-year-old Sonic Boom Six. I guess it means that either the turonver is huge and there are few repeat visitors, or maybe the shocking revelation that a lot of rock and metal fans are big fans of safe nostalgia and familiar names.
I think you're right.
My dad went last year for the day to see Metallica, as he hadn't seen them for twenty odd years. He's doing the same this year to see Maiden, for pretty much the same reason.
I'll be going on the Saturday for the Maiden/QOTSA/Motorhead three-way
But the rest of it looks pretty awful. It's such a bizarre mish-mash of bands that none of it really works at all. I don't think Andy Copping has much of a grasp on how to arrange the program around the bands he books.
how any promoter thought the UK could support 2 festivals like this
(i.e. Download and Sonisphere) must have been smoking something
Probably the best festival line up this year
same lineup every year
always awful 80s metal bands noone cares about
