Radiohead
meh/10
one track in?
one track in?
What on earth is the point of offering an opinion when you are one track in to an album? Fuck me.
yeah give him hell!
aye it was clearly an extensive review
and not simply an aside to accompany the link you utter bellsniff
In spite of the string of embarassing thises to this comment
I maintain that comments like `sounding good so far!` when people have clearly just started listening to an album are pointless and inane, though to be fair to fitzcarraldo I'm projecting a longstanding pet peeve onto this one thread.
Yeah fitzcarraldo
Next time: heading, link, fuck off.
lesson learned...
:D
you're the most uptight, boring music forum regular
genuinely baffled by this thread
you're moaning about someone being excited by the first song on an album and expressing that excitement
not really sure what's so baffling about that?
apart from the absurdity of commenting on the quality of an album of which you've heard one track, once?
That's all.
It was more a comment about the `first!` culture of wanting to get an opinion in on something as early as possible, no matter how uninformed. But obviously it was just meant to be some nonsense text to accompany a link, so no biggie.
Yeah...
i only listened to the first track on a high-quality legal stream and that's enough for me to assess its merits and declare it a good record.
:p
you probably should listen to it more then
that's not good to form an opinion on tbh
i've listened to it once
but i don't yet have a fully formed opinion on it.
That's very honest of you
Has the page crashed or something
I had it up and it started automatically, but then i paused it and when I went to reload all i get now is a black page.
Got the first track, sounded great
Now none of the others will load.
DAMN YOU THOM YORKE
All the tracks...
...sound exactly the same. Same tempo... same vibe... same structure... same type of beats...
Very middle of the road. Just goes to further show how important the other members of his day-job band really are.
5/10
you can not be serious
I enjoyed his last solo album..
going to wait until physical release before i lsiten to this one.
I enjoyed
his first one too. The first one at least had a couple of standout tracks with great chord progressions. Just imagine the weaker half of his first one... that is exactly what this one sounds like.
^ underappreciated
I know exactly what this will sound like without listening to it
Radiohead with slap bass
like listening to Radiohead and watching Seinfeld at the same time.
:DDD
Album of the year
and i've already heard both singles more than once
It's better than I expected
The singles gave me the impression that it was going to be more of Yorke's middling attempts at IDM but the full album has quite a bit of influence from the other Atoms for Peace members, which is what I was hoping for. Still could've gone further in that respect and have the record sound more like their live sound but yeah, still enjoying it more than I expected. Doesn't carry any huge standout songs like the The Eraser or Black Swan tho.
On first listen,
there isn't anything that particularly stands out. It just ticks along in a 'generic Thom Yorke' fashion. Not bad, but nothing that tears up any trees.
I'm enjoying this more than I expected to
it doesn't leap out at you, but there's a helluva lot going on.
a more reliable stream is available
at NPR:
http://www.npr.org/2013/02/18/171939295/first-listen-atoms-for-peace-amok
doesn't seem to crash as often as the XL stream
people never actually listen past the first song or two anyway
they either put something else on or start having conversations or leave the room
someone would notice if the other 7 songs were just fart noises
Second track is good
That second track's the best thing he's been a part of for ages
Well I listened to the first three(ish) tracks and then decided to stick Kid A on.
Haven't listened to Kid A in ages so it's been quite a good album in that sense, if not in any other.
I like what I've heard so far - the electronic flourishes are quite noce although I'm hoping that the thing kicks a beat or too at some point otherwise it'll be a slog.
No real strong feelings about it so far. Perhaps I won't have a any strong feelings about it.
Listened a few times.
Absolutely nothing stuck with me. Very disappointed. It sounds nice enough, but they forgot to write some actual memorable tunes to go with it.
I imagine this must be what it feels like to be an old Radiohead fan who doestn't like anything they did after OK Computer...
New music video for Ingenue
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpVfF4U75B8
Thom doing the whole dance thing again, except this time he has a friend. I quite like it. One of my favourites from the album too.
he looks frighteningly like Aphex Twin in this video
^ he's waited 13 years for that comment
finally, he can get back to writing real songs for real people.
Oh the inevitable gifs
Sounds like Radiohead
if Moby was collaborating with them
Came in the mail this morning.
On my third listen-through, and I have to say it's really goddamn compelling. I haven't felt like I want to listen to anything else yet. Kind of surprised really; what with the negativity or fair to middling reviews I'd seen I wasn't expecting much, but it's bloody good. The three track run of Ingenue, Dropped and Unless are my standouts so far.
So much going on, and I haven't even listened with headphones yet.
Still not clicked for me
bits of it are nice and all but a lot just sort of goes by without really catching.
When I heard the stream I thought it was going to blow my mind completely
After having it on my mp3 for a bit I'm slightly dissapointed. Ingenue and Judge Jury are 5* tracks but it all merges together a bit averagely, think I agree with most reviews of it.
Well, this is better than you lot made it sound, isn't it?
Maybe it's down to expectations. After all the comments, I was happy with a pleasant hour, without yearning for any ANTHEEEEMS!
Can I just say, in the interest of balance
That I have listened to one song and can confirm this album is absolute shite. Cheers.
Excellent
I'm sure your opinion is going to be taking very seriously after one listen of one song. Ta.
*taken
Headlining Latitude would be weird
Atoms For Peace Essential Mix
http://passionweiss.com/2013/03/10/thom-yorke-nigel-godrich-atoms-for-peace-essential-mix-for-the-bbc/#more-19932
Pretty much exactly what you'd expect, but some good stuff on there
6/10
Meant as a reply to the thread in general and not to Dan.
This is actually a million times better on second listen
I'm rather confused about the fact that my copy of this hasn't turned up yet.
mine turned up a couple of weeks ago
did get an email saying some were tunning late though
