What's your "comfort food" album?
To go to when you feel fucking terrible?
I think mine is Turn on the Bright Lights. When you feel down you can just lay in a dark room and let it was over you.

Good shout on TOTBL
Mine of probably The Wall or Animals. Pink Floyd for sure anyway.
bad/sad mood = Iron Maiden Rock In Rio
feeling ill = something like Loveless
ahh, yes! Made me think that, perhaps when angry,
it's Deftones- White Pony.
Fucking love Deftones.
Small Change
One of:
Frengers
Takk...
Parachutes
Harmony In Ultraviolet (Tim Hecker)
It definitely has purifying qualities.
i concur
was a bit fucked at ATP, got absolutely pulverised by Tim Hecker and had a moment, then was fine and carried on partying
Probably Weezer's Blue Album
It gets me feeling good about life again.
So true, such a good mood making album.
Crowded House
No bad memories can be associated with Crowded House.
Stereolab - Dots and Loops
Perfect from start to finish.
this
or Aja
Aja <£
*Aja > £
:D
Gonzales - Solo Piano
Shellac - 1000 hurts
I really should've listened to that opener yesterday thinking about it.
Amongst my favourite ever lyrics...
Because they were squirrels; real squirrels. / (And there were thousands) / This isn't some kind of metaphor, / Goddamn, this is real
mine's The 59 Sound by The Gaslight Anthem
because I want to cheer myself up with some ludicrous escapism, anthemic choruses and pop-punk backing vocals.
Shack - Here's Tom with the Weather
Go-Betweens - 16 Lovers Lane
Tindersticks - Simple Pleasure
All 3 are like old friends that I can always turn to when I need a pint. Listen to any of those 3 & all is right with the world.
Nice shout for the go betweens!
would put Liberty Belle & The Black Diamond Express in there too.
This was an accidental this.
I've never even heard of these bands.
Oops...
Sorry, accident.
David Sylvian + Holger Czukay - Flux & Mutability
literally makes everything OK
Something fun that I liked as a carefree teenager usually
Green Day - Dookie for example.
Yeah...
...I would also say that carefree fun albums from being a teenager are what I listen to for "comfort food". So for example, BloodSugarSexMagic - RHCP
Through Being Cool - Saves the Day
And Out Come the Wolves - Rancid
...that sort of thing.
Sparklehorse
All of them.
Lambchop - Nixon
99% of the time this will be the ablum I turn to.
Led Zeppelin IV
Makes everything better.
Papa M - Whatever, Mortal
Good choice.
I find myself always going for 'Live From a Shark Cage' at times when I need some cold eyed calm...
Entroducing...
Have One On Me - Joanna Newsom
or any Bright Eyes album.
I love a good mope, me.
Ys
for me
"Peg" by Steely Dan
always does the trick
Hungover/ill/headache: Neko Case
Angry: Hot Damn!
Clem Snide - End Of Love
if you're feeling sinister
or born to run seem to be fulfilling the comfort food role at the moment
The first Sade record.
When I put it on everything feels write with the world.
Sade discography on shuffle does it for me.
I've never listened to anything past the second one.
Always assumed they'd be shit. Am I wrong?
Waaaay wrong, rectify immediately.
Next three are really good (Love deluxe being full blown classic) even Soldier Of Love had some jams.
I struggle to listen to music if I'm in a bad mood - nothing ever seems right.
not necessarily a bad mood thing though.
the music equivalent of a lovely rice pudding is what im after.
I hate rice pudding!
But 69 Love Songs always gives me a warm glow inside.
Microcastle
The Flying Club Cup by Beirut
is always a good shout.
This Will Destroy You
It has to be some nice Blues..
I stuck Charley Patton on last weekend as I was having "one of those days", everything seemed a good bit rosier after a few tracks.
Brighton Flight by Silver Jews
cos I know all the words to every song and it makes me happy pretending to be David Berman and singing along in a low Texan drawl.
*Bright Flight
not "Brighton Flight". Haha, might use that as my new name for the album from now on.
Eels - Electro Shock Blues
Avalanches - since I left you
i'll never understand why people put on sad albums when they're feeling sad
the answer is I GET WET
When I was a teen I used to put on sad stuff when I was sad.
Just wanted to sink deeper in the hole. Now that I see things more clearly I put on something more fun. Doggystyle or something.
Misery loves company
Graceland
Hounds of love
Rumors
Graceland is such a good answer
Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde
first Ramones album
Dinosaur Jr - You're Living All Over Me
first few Zappa albums
a walk across the rooftops
Slowdive - Souvlaki
And to a lesser extent, Loveless, but mbv won't be replacing it anytime soon.
OK Computer probably
Lately it's been Hoax's complete discography
Nothing to get you up and about again than an album that begins with 'Fagget' and ends with 'Living on the Brink of Suicide'.
Life/Less by Loma Prieta also gets a good work out
Even if it's in my head, it feels good to scream along
spiritualized - ladies and gents
Street Horrrsing
All that noise is quite comforting, and the distorted ranting makes me quite emotional sometimes.
Brand New - YFW
i always end up listening to dad music
Mazzy Star - She Hangs Brightly
ALL KILLER NO FILLER
seriously.
at this moment in time it's I See a Darkness
Stereolab is a great shout
Guided By Voices - Alien Lanes is also way up there for me. Also Pet Sounds obviously.
Come on and Feel the Lemonheads
The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?
Likely my favorite pop record of all time.
Completely forgot about this album!
Cheers!
Hell yes! I want THAT band to reunite.
Pink Moon
or Enema Of The States, depending on the type of comfort needed
Probably something angsty
Like Bleed American or Deja Entendu.
Beta Band 3eps
Pre-2011 I didn't really have one in particular
Since 2011 though it has always been Kaputt by Destroyer. Such a blinding album.
Aquemini
Recently it's been Philophobia by Arab Strap
I can see this continuing.
Miracle Fortress
Five Roses
Used to love hearing that album
haven't heard it in years though
Raw Power!
or Static Age!
all the classics!
Brand New - Your Favourite Weapon
Fun to sing/shout along to.
I find it hard to be comforted anymore
I used to shut myself away in the dark and drown out the world/erase myself with 'Depths' by Windy & Carl. properly elemental.
Love: Forever Changes
Except Old Man - don't care for that one.
Cass McCombs - Dropping the Writ
Grand Prix by Teenage Fanclub
born in the USA
Works for good and bad moods alike.
Tycho - Dive
Jimmy Eat World - Futures
John Fahey - The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death
every time
if i'm happy it's primal scream - screamadelica
if i'm sad it's joy division - closer
Blood on The Tracks - Bob Dylan!
It's got everything!
Mare Vitalis - Appleseed Cast
or
Bleed American - Jimmy Eat World.
