What albums remain consistently amazing?
I mean ones which seem to get better, mature, reveal different aspects or just plain never get worse. I've been thinking about it a lot recently, as I've been convinced The Monitor by Titus Andronicus was my favourite album ever, but I haven't really had the same buzz listening to it last few months (probably cos i'm attuned to their new album atm).
Anyway, there are so few albums which don't fade at some point (if you listen to them enough). The one stand out for me is Funeral. It always blows me away how vital it always feels when I pick it up. Apart from Wake Up which kinda sounds like an advert song now.

Vespertine is an album that genuinely amazes me anew every time I hear it.

Also, how are there not more replies to this thread? Surely everybody owns at least one album they think of in these terms...
oh great another radiohead thread
you forgot the punctuation there... let me help you
Oh, great!!!11!1 Another Radiohead thread! <3<3<3 :))))
I always wondered why Radiohead inspire such obsession?
Because they're fucking incredible.
End of discussion.
because jordan is really boring
Seriously, the people who make ironic Radiohead posts all the time
are way duller and more repetitive than the people who talk about Radiohead because they actually like them.
Whatever your opinion of them is, Radiohead are a very popular and acclaimed band. If you don't want to read posts about them, I'd suggest maybe not frequenting a music forum.
Damn straight!
OK Computer is still an absolute gem every single time. I've never gotten bored with a single track - and it has (maybe) my favorite track on it, "No Surprises". Kid A is kinda the same way, but not like OK Computer. In fact, the only other Radiohead record that matches it is In Rainbows. I love listening to that record.
<3<3<3 RADIOHEAD
Slowdive - Souvlaki
I know we've been harping on about MBV a lot lately, but Slowdive were truly in a league of their own. So underrated, Souvlaki's a masterpiece, and so incredibly layered, without being overbearingly dense. I hear something new everytime I listen. If you're new to this album, make sure you get the 2 disc version, their cover of Some Velvet Morning is stunning.
Modern Life Is Rubbish
and eh THIS

awww, I love that x>y record
were you in that band?
Joy Division - Closer
Unknown Pleasures
for me
Titus Andronicus? Ladytron? Slowdive?
Can't limbo under that bar, can you?
hahaha
Whipping Boy - Heartworm
Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
and Laughing Stock for that matter.
Much more so than Spirit of Eden
in my opinion.
Love - Forever Changes
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks.
Of more recent albums I still love Frightened Rabbit's The Midnight Organ Fight.
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Even for those whose ears aren't 'tuned' for thrash can see (hear) that it's a masterpiece.
Mclusky - Mclusky Do Dallas
I'm listening to it now. It's over a decade old. It's an absolute classic.
Your post, as a fully paid up FOTL fan,
but not having any Mclusky (YES SOMETIMES THIS STUFF HAPPENS) made me buy this tonight.
Thanks.
If you're a FOTL fan
then 'Difference between...' may be more your cup of tea, felt mclusky were starting to turn into them at that point. See in particular 'Without MSG I am nothing'
Everything Alright Forever - Boo Radleys
MHTRTC - BoC
Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express
Fucking thing is nearly 40 years old
Also Computer World
Patti Smith - Horses
Pretty much the definition of what you described in the OP. Every single time I play it, I just feel like it's the most incredible piece of music ever made and how did I not realise this all the days I wasn't playing it etc.
Brand New - Deja Entendu
I love EAF by Boo Radleys
But I've been blown away and discovering things in Giant Steps for nearly 17 years now
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
Mudhoney - Superfuzz Bigmuff (alright it's an EP but still)
Eels - Electro-shock Blues
Mogwai - Young Team
Could go on all night, that'll do for now.
give me a call after ujan b
Hey ho bloody thing
So get Sufjan off and I'll be over for the other three.
so glad to see this thread started with mention of 'the monitor'
i did one of those top 40 album generator things and found it up in the top four, never ceases to blow me away.
madvillainy is the other example i can think of that i literally cant overplay because theres so much to it that makes it an amazing record.
Gold Panda - Lucky Shiner
Talking Heads - Remain In Light
Marnie Stern - S/T
An incredibly consistent run of tracks which are both noisy and poppy \m/. YEAH DEM HOOKS
Fugazi.

Gza - Liquid Swords
Jaw-dropping lyrical genius in every song
Loveless

Stars of the Lid

The others:
Underworld - Second toughest in the infants
The National - Alligator
DFA1979 - You're a woman, I'm a machine
Maybe one day, Aesop Rock 'Skelethon' too. Fucking adore it.
I listened to Lift Your Skinny Fists...
by Godspeed for the first time in ages yesterday, over a decade on and it's still the final boss of post-rock.
Suicide - Suicide.
Came out in 1977 and music still isn't close to catching up with it. Put it on today and it still sounds like the future.
Tangerine Dream - Rubycon
Eternally mysterious and atmospheric.
