I'm going to ruin this already and say I have listened to it
BUT I was going to say TO YOU sort of specifically Severed799, I got this Young Widows album yesterday and it is fantastic. It is moody post hardcore with a bit o Nick Cave and a bit of the new style Swans mixed in
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_and_Out_of_Youth_and_Lightness
before they were more sort of aggressively Shellacjesuslizardy but I think they sound better like this
just a wee post hardcore update for you
and yeah i'm doing alright, making soup wbu
GET OUT OF THIS THREAD
you don't tell me to get out of this thread
I tell YOU to get out of this thread
You can tell me what you like, sunshine
oh just continue stinking up the place see if I care
oh another pal of mine recommended this
that officially activates a listen.
great album, that
I haven't listened to it yet
but am dying to.
Hi
I'm alright, ta. Looking forward to the France-Italy game in a bit, might squeeze in an episode of Phoenix Nights before that. Listening to Loveless atm, all this MBV chat must be getting to me. Will probably check out the new album at some point in the future, but I'd be surprised if it was this year. Slept in and had cold pizza for breakfast/lunch. You?
good
the superbowl is very much outweighing a new MBV album right now, gonna go see Lincoln this afternoon. May listen to MBV later in the week.
Are you American?
I hope so. People who aren't American but pretend to be interested in American Football are the worst.
that's people who genuinely like rugby m8
sure why not
ooooooh, Lincoln is SO GOOD
Really good
Made me wonder who has been directing all those terrible Spielberg movies for the last twenty years.
it was really great, wasn't it?
really was...
...so surprised by it. beautifully made, informative, captivating. everything, really. apart from Sally Field. she was a bit shit.
thanks for the update Nonchalant McTedious
You're welcome. Any particular reason you're still in here?
severed799
stop thissing these posts we both know he's a major league chump come on
i'm a fan of bants

someone needs to get bant from this forum for life

i'm quite enjoying the beefing going on here
well i'm glad someone is
hey man
don't make me feel guilty for getting pleasure from other people's pain
it's society's fault really not yours
i'm ok
listening to violent femmes first album. I like it, only got into it recently tho heard add it up a load of times on one of the tony hawks games
I'm really hungry tho , I need some food
Good thread. Good concept.
I approve.
finally!
hi guys
Awful band
fine thanks
MBV are good not great. I'm looking forward to hearing it at some point, though.
MBV are influential & important but...
...IMO, Slowdive are better. They're more listenable.
I'm going to listen to Catch the Breeze right now.
Medicine, too..
all the mbv chatter reminded me that I hadn't listened to Shot Forth Self Living in a while.
thank you, mbv chatterers!
I wasn't gonna bother listening to it but I've gotten all swept up in the mayhem mayhem mayhem
I listened to a little bit of it and now I'm just downloading it instead. I'm ok in the meantime.
I'm on my second play of the new MBV
but... I've also listened to Owen Pallett's He Poos Clouds nearly three times today. I prefer that album.
Owen Pallett's really great isn't he?
This has reminded me that I really must listen to He Poos Clouds again soon.
Heartland is by far his best though, right
I thought Heartland was his best for years
till my girlfriend told me she was listening to This Lamb Sells Condos which prompted me to listen to He Poos Clouds again.
I think He Poos Clouds is better. It's just consistently fucking amazing, so rich and full of life.
Frustratingly I can't find my copy of He Poos Clouds so I'm re-listening Heartlands again.
Excellent stuff.
I've listened to a few seconds of it.
Am I still allowed in the thread?
;-P
I'm just listening to Loveless and doing some cleaning up.
I'll check out the new record in 2024 or sutin.
I think that's your 20,000th post
cowcow this'd this funkycow message
;)
good, ta
I've been driving back from my folks today and haven't heard it yet (as it wouldn't download to my phone)
Was some cracking stuff on Absolute Radio earlier.
Forgot how incredible this Waterboys song is http://youtu.be/pu7AR0-FRro
It's all about Bang on the Ear, surely?
nah Fisherman's Blues or We Will Not Be Lovers.
talk a walk last night...
...listening to that Warpaint record from a few years back. really good.
And I'm good, thanks for asking.
deep and sincere apology for Giving a Fuck about a Thing
Hi.
I'm tired.
Great thread.
I'm listening to Kaputt because I only got round to getting it yesterday.
great fucking album
They was that band who was big in early 90s wiv Take That and fings?
I like "Soon", pretty catchy tune, but do they have any ones with more tits and ass?
Sadly not.
MBV are fucking amazing and I have listened to the new record 3 times now, and that was in 3 hours
That said, I just woke up for today, and I very much need to shower, because I need to go into town to watch the Superbowl, and then record a podcast.
I don't actually care about football (i.e. I have NO idea who the Ravens are [Baltimore apparently? all I know about Baltimore is from The Wire]), but my cohosts care, so why not go drink with them?
gonna listen to this frever

Just discovered an album called Betty by Helmet
I would also like to listen to this a lot more than the new MBV. Weird.
Not weird at all. Betty is far better than Loveless.
But Strap it on by Helmet is better than both.
Biscuits for Smut is a cracking tune
the drums on this album are insane
that bloke that's also in Battles innit.
John Stanier!
I saw Battles a few years back, and I was stood in front of him. AMAZING to watch him play.
tough call between Strap It On and Meantime...
So was listening to Gimme Fiction by Spoon
on the way to work this morning. Great album, never seems to be much love for Spoon on DIS.
Still don't understand the MBV euphoria. All round great band and everything. But after waiting 22 years for them to bother to do a 3rd album, I figure waiting a few more weeks won't make much of a difference to me.
I love Spoon.
but not lamp?
interesting.
No love for Spoon on DiS?
http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4141663-dis-meets-spoon
I gave them cameras + films as gifts
(Nikon L35AF and Stylus Epic Deluxe)
lol must've missed that article at the time
I stand corrected.
I used to love Spoon
especially Girls Can't Tell and Gimme Fiction. Then I saw them live at Latitude 2010 and haven't listened to them since. It was such a flaccid show.
I might play them again now.
can* tell sorry
There is no spoon

:)
i had my first listen to the new night marchers album last night
really really good
I dug out this old mvee album
possibly cos of the 'mbv' thing? 'Mother of Thousands'
still sounds spacey and weird and amazing
there are NO CLIPS on youtube :(
I'm still in love with these two
Got that Zubelon box set thingy on COM that VT went nuts about this week. But it really is ace, some far out jams, loads of guest musicians, and a nice range of ditties from their catalogue.
I love em
but man I don't think I have time for all that stuff. Also it's 62 quid. But Mother of Thousands is the only thing that'll dae the job when I need it
Just turned on the kettle with the new mbv album playing in the background
It started boiling loudly, and to be honest, I couldn't tell the difference.
I've had two "quiet" kettles
And they've both got louder over time. Although the current one is better than the first, which also had the annoying habit of tripping the safety switch if you used it at the same time as the dishwasher.
I think I might have to use some descaler to make the kettle "quiet" again.
Not sure if I'll ever listen to this tbf.
Part of me feels like I should? idk it's fun to be part of the experience with everyone but this band doesn't do much for me. Ive listened to Loveless plenty of times but it just kinda washes by me. I like it ok but cant see why people revere it so much.
You really shouldn't feel like you have to
The mentality that there are certain things you HAVE to like, or at least create the illusion to others that you do, should've died out by now. I bet a sizeable percentage of those who've listened to it have done so because they think it's their duty to, and that many wouldn't give it the time of day at all had any other artist created it.
That said, I won't deny MBV's legacy (the band, not the album) and Loveless is very good to my ears. And yes, I suppose there's something nice in a communal dialogue about a common interest like this.
I just think we should all enjoy music for ourselves, and not get bogged down with PC indie etiquette.
I have no desire to LIKE an album everyone is liking.
Just to be able to have some opinion on it is all I meant. Landmark albums that so many people buzz over dont happen too often but this one just doesn't matter to me.
PC indie etiquette? Idk it's like the movie that everyone is on about and you want to be able to talk about it too. Sometimes music enjoyment is personal and sometimes it's social, don't think either is particularly wrong or right.
Most of that wasn't really directed at you
Post header was, rest of it was more of a general, cynical rambling. I completely agree with giving something a go to see what the fuss is about, it's just when people feel like it's their obligation to do so that it bothers me.
I've always seen music as personal, and not particularly social, but that's just me. I do think PC indie etiquette exists, but to what extent it's applied to this album remains to be seen.
I am very cynical about things like this, so pay not attention if any of this doesn't apply, or annoys/offends! Apologies if it does.
so guys
why do MBV songs sound like they were recorded on a Digitech GNX3 guitar effects processor?
It's nice when people get excited about things
I'm a little jealous. But I've never been that fussed about them and this is passing me by. Ah well.
Listened to it
kind of reminds me of Duke Nukem Forever, if I hadn't known better I'd have thought it was kind of rushed. 6/10
Still haven't heard it
how are the rest of you holding up?
listened to it about 5 times now
Listened to it about a dozen times
it's brilliant
sell-outs
I nearly cracked there
but then I listened to Good Kid, m.A.A.d City again
It got a BNM from p4k
so you're all not going to be able to stop yourselves now
hence^
