It's changed a lot since then, probably twice as big and much better laid out (although the mainstage still gets terrible bleed if someone loud is on in the Big Top). Didn't have as good a time as prior years for a few reasons last year, but the lineup's pretty good so far.
Growing up on the Isle I've always been fond of Bestival, having attended them all from the beginning to 2008, but I dunno. The horrendous rain in 2008 was enough to put me off forever.
And saw the festival turn from a great medium sized festival to a pretty terrible big festival. The site didn't seem able to cope with 30000, so fuck knows what it's like with 50000.
Last time I went it took 8 fucking hours. Such a drag. It was train to Portsmouth. Then a loooong queue for a boat (and we left really early to avoid one). Then you arrive on the Isle of White and realise you have another long queue for a bus to take you to the site. Such a drag, and all that travelling costs quite a lot. Train, boat, then bus. I realised I could have gone to a European festival in Spain, Portugal or one of the many others, which would have taken less time door to door(!), which would have cost half as much as the £200 ticket, and the cost of flights wouldn't be much more than return train/boat/bus. And it wouldn't have pissed down. I'd only go back if someone drove.
The Knife, Richie Hawtin and Rustie
Ooooooh. Sorely tempted, even though last year's was probably my least favourite yet.
Probably going this year
Haven't been since 2009 I think, this line up isn't THAT great so far but I just really fancy going back.
2009 was my first year

Argh.

What's the crowd like these days?
More families and more teenagers on Ketamine
But still quite a good vibe.
and lots and lots of tent thefts
well, in 2010 and 2011 in the green camp site.
Yeah.
Thought this might be the case.
:(
I went last year and found the whole thing pretty horrid, despite the solid line-up
I went from 2006-2008

No comments on the WTF of having Elton John as a headliner?
next year's
headliner may well be Gary Barlow
Stevie Wonder went down so well last year
I can understand the thinking. But still... Elton? :S
It will be amazing you try hard indie bellends
They are announcing the Friday Headliner
next Wednesday - and the headline will play on a boat on the Thames that night.
Who is it?
I'm tempted to get tickets
but what if its someone awful, like Example?
massive punt.
