So 93 Feet East has lost its licence
and is to close down, immediately from what I can tell. Wouldn't usually care but I bought Tamaryn tickets not 24 hours ago ...

surely you're entitled to a refund?
and/or they'll organise a change of venue
Yeah, I'd presume so.
Just slightly irked/amused because it looks like the final decision was announced about 4 minutes after I bought tickets. No big deal.
they'll in all probability just change management/licensee and resuming trading as if nothing happened
Like The Water Margin/Sticky Mike's in Brighton and many other venues have done.
no
it lost its licence around jan 9th or something
FYI
No 'derp this happened AGGGGGGGGESSSSS ago' posts, please. Plenty of outlets reporting it in unequivocal terms only in the last 12 or so hours.
too late
This reflects badly on you
GOOD
alright there, grumpy cat
Obviously any venue closing is bad
But 93 Feet East really seemed to dilute their programming over the past couple of years. I can barely think of anything I wanted to see there recently. It always seemed to be generic funky house nights.
Shed a tear for the generic funky house fan. :'(
bit of a shame
not a venue that I frequented often but saw an awesome Frightened Rabbit gig there last year.
hopefully it'll be back under a different guise/management with a better programme
i'm suprised they hadn't been taken off sale
saw on the tamaryn fb it would be held at another venue. dunno if they have found one yet.
Fuckbuttons there with about 20 other people once.
I also first saw moker there, in his old bad 'End of the New'. Which the venue renamed 'Sand of the Sun' or something utterly weird.
+Saw
obviously.
When we (The Empty Gestures) played there
we were announced as The Guilty Jesters. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, as they say...
Could've got The Shifty Wankers so I reckon you won out.
I saw them there as well
MAYBE AT THE SAME GIG??????
Oh yeah, I'd imagine so.
We were maybe there to see an early Popular Workshop gig. Or a late Querelle one even? That's the first one that comes to mind as the reason.
I put that Fuck Buttons gig on!
Good for you
now piss on meths' face.
our lot
were supposed to be playing there in February. Loss of license only confirmed in the last few days it seems, with the venue hoping it was temporary and trying not to cancel shows. (micro-jag: We've moved the whole bill to the Bull and Gate now - http://www.wegottickets.com/event/205832). Hope that 93 Feet East can get reborn, always had a good time there (and at the cat pub round the corner).
CAT PUB!!!!
The Pride of Spitalfields
that is an awesome cat
That youtube video is bloody brilliant
The police are really cracking this internet thing lately, what with this and the #noneedtopanic and #nonetoobright hashtags
could really benefit
from having the Benny Hill music over the top: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL1ULtKfAA8
The one I watched does
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqtX7OgeldM
pissed on meths face there.
rip.
:'D
It's a shame
but not that much of a shame. Venues never really last, they either go bust or end up cashing in on their reputations. Not on the same scale, but imagine if say, The Hacienda was still open...eurgh.
powpowpow put on some bit of gigs at that venue
good times DJing with CG there, especially when he ejected a CD mid-song and it all went quiet.
yeah, i heard this news approx. 5.5 weeks ago.
fwiw
Not sure what exactly happened but everytime I've been in there in the last few years I was searched fairly excessively (especially compared to other gig venues), so I'd say they already did as much as they could... I do hope the place stays in some form, the gig room is good but it can be a bit too big ie empty some nights...
As mentioned upthread, it's always a shame to see a venue forced to close,
but I've got to say that I haven't ben there in a long time, when it used to be a pretty frequent haunt around 2007-08. The music policy seemed to shift away from interesting bands and towards the lowest common denominator club nights catering to the crowds that now make up most of that area's clientele.
I haven't been to 93 in years. I've seen some great bands there but
I've always disliked the venue. The loss of The Spitz from that area was worse than the closure of 93. The biggest loss for me in recent years was The Luminaire. There was a bus that would go from when I lived to outside that venue. I probably went to The Luminaire once a week.
...
The Luminaire was the best venue in London by miles. Mainly for the big sign about telling people to fuck off if they were talking and the fact it was always low on the amount of wankers there, something which is pretty hard to find at gigs in London!
In fact, during the time I spent living in London I travelled to other cities to see other gigs because I hated gigs there so much! A bit of a strange thing to do looking back on it...
I made the mistake of going there on a Saturday last summer
It was unbelievably shit.
The music sucked, everyone seemed to be underage, the floor was covered with beer and other liquids, there were some right dodgy fuckers hanging around outside.
So has it closed down or not?
I can't believe you came in here and fucking ignored your NAMECHECK!
yes
no alcohol or entertainment licence = no business
FUSE club has moved to Village Underground
police resources would be better put to use getting rid of all the rapey illegal minicab drivers who pollute Brick Lane
imho.
well its always in the last place you look
