we have Owl City now
we don't need them
Get out.
Seriously though
owl city is bad enough until you've seen the music video, and then it's a straight down "who do I punch first contest" between him and that clunge from scouting for girls
I thought we got rid of Scouting for Girls
Didn't we bury them at sea during Royal Wedding weekend in 2011?
he played a few Postal Service tunes at Union Chapel in December
was aces.
Any lengthy tour or new record
Would be very surprising based on Gibbard's constant insistence that his main focus is Death Cab and that they're going back into the studio this year.
Think a 10 year anniversary reissue of Give Up or maybe a short run of festivals, assuming that a big-money offer from Coachella is what tempted them, is far more likely.
I guessing this is how it will play out.
Still, a new 'Postal Service record would be great for Death Cab's public profile.
Is Dntel still making music like that anyway? It's a bit of an early 2000s sound.
yeah, he put out new records in 2007 and last year
haven't heard the one from last year but I really like the 2007 one.
Is it a similar sound? Electronica with a touch of glitch?
yeah, Dumb Luck (the 2007 LP) is basically Life is Full pt2
has collaborations with Grizzly Bear and Jenny Lewis and Conor Oberst and Arthur & Yu and some others.
i also just remembered he did a more downtempo instrumental LP as James Figurine at some point and a double 12" set as Dntel called "After Parties" in 2011 that was more like the first couple of Dntel records, from before he started hooking up with guest vocalists
Are you petesfingers from popular beat combo
DEBBIE AND THE DOWNERS? >:-( LET ME HAVE THIS.
lulz

rad
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Christ
it has been nearly 10 years since their last record. That is weird.
I'm guessing it's a re-release + small tour
Do
we need a re-release? I bought the CD when it came out - and then later the double red vinyl with the extras. Isn't it one of Sub Pop's biggest ever sellers, so surely all the fans already own a physical copy?
Probably not
10th anniversary re-releases are trendy though. Plus it'd be nice to have the bonus stuff handily available on CD too beyond tracking down the singles (or then they'll just pack together a bunch of demos or something).
I really doubt there's new material coming though, considering what Gibbard's been saying so recently.
this is good
any excuse to post

Deluxe re-release + Coachella gig + possibly a small tour
http://pitchfork.com/news/49227-the-postal-service-to-reunite-for-coachella-release-10th-anniversary-edition-of-give-up/
Guessed right.
Have been listening to them again for the last four hours or so
and thoroughly enjoying it. I have all the single/bsides (I think), so not sure how worth it a bonus cd will be, unless there is some unreleased songs on it.
I still regret not going to see them play live at the Spitz many years ago, but I was an unemployed student back then so didn't have much choice.
I own this on CD and double Vinyl
not buying again. Love it so much though, a complete game changer for my music taste. <3
I know nothing about these guys other than they were one of the favourite bands of
Danny Karbassiyoon.
Remember him, Arsenal fans?
Think all that
would be left in the vaults is their version of... Phil Collins' Against All Odds... and John Lennon's Grow Old With Me. Doubt there'd be scratch demo versions of things as that sort of contradicts the way they worked on this. A live disc would be bloody wonderful, there's a KEXP session they did with lovely segues and an extended version of Brand New Colony (with live drums from Ben) that is heavenly. A UK date would be so welcome :)
Actually, a 10th anniversary version would be kind of pointless as it's been a steady seller for the last ten years and only recently went platinum and I don't want to buy it again just for some remixes...
I didn't bother with the Spitz gig
because I had tickets to Bright Eyes at S/B/Empire and Postal Service were the support. Then they cancelled that and were replaced by British Sea Power. gutted. (although BSP were ace).
I was also on holiday in San Francisco and Postal Service played loads of shows over a couple of days I was there - matinees and evening stuff. Wished I'd gone now.
actually
that was part of my logic in not going to that Spitz gig, as I was going to the Bright Eyes gig as well. Was so disappointed.
Ticketmaster are showing a Postal Service gig at Brixton Academy on 21 August, though tickets aren't on sale yet.
Two days before Reading/Leeds, so i'd imagine it's a warm up show and they'll maybe headline the second stage. Are they big enough for that?
Nice try
douche.
all the bad publicity they've had since sponsoring Lance Armstrong
probably need to get back out there and play shows to save face.
2nd album
If you play Aimlessness and Former Lives simultaneously you get the second album
Paste Mag just confirmed that there is no chance of a second album.
Not surprised, still disappointed.

well that's not really anything new
I'd be surprised if anything new actually came of this, **but at the same time** if they were going to do a new album a sustained campaign of misinformation would be the best way to approach it, given the expectation that will likely be heaped upon it.
I don't hate them
but is there really a point to a new album? I don't think the first album holds up all too well nowadays - some of it still sounds good but a lot of it just sounds like outdated electropop to me.
what new album?
the hypothetical one that is apparently not happening
I feel the same way about the prospect of a new Avalanches album
I can't imagine a new Avalanches album being anything other than embarrassing
two new songs
http://pitchfork.com/news/49139-the-postal-services-give-up-reissue-will-contain-two-new-songs-and-much-more/
cool
think the inclusion of the new tracks kills any idea of a proper new record
Jimmy T said a few years ago they had a couple of tracks for a new record, if they're not even holding those back...
new album would probably be bad anyway
he hasn't written a really good song for quite some time
pitchfork review up
seems to be written by somebody who doesn't really like it but didn't have the guts to give it a proper bad score. wonders whether anyone really made it to 'natural anthem', calls most of the album embarrassing, and says that it's all really dated.
