8b. The Shins - 8
8c. Nils Frahm - 8
8d. Andy Stott - 8
1&4 - I've been listening to Das Rheingold and Die Walkure a lot lately. For some reason I never get round to listening to the other two but fuck is the ring cycle amazing. Anyone know of the best recordings of it? Swarowsky's orchestra is great but the guy that sings Wotan sounds like a giant pussy.
3b - Listened to his special because for some reason I found this really funny - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0hvV_ETDQ0&feature=youtu.be - but it was kind of underwhelming. I really like his voice anyway, sounds like Ron Burgundy.
5 - New album's pretty great. He's just great.
6b & 8c - Black Elk is super nice ambience for studying or w/e; Nils Frahm I don't really get the hype over, he doesn't seem to make anything interesting at all. I dunno maybe I'm missing something.

Mostly just listened to Standards by Tortoise and Love King by The-Dream * on my CD player this week
10 DJ/Rupture
10 Country Teasers
10 The Wave Pictures
10 Joyce Manor - 3
08 Everything Everything
08 The Pastels - 4
07 Kyary Pamyu Pamyu - 5
04 Vatican Shadow
04 The Ex - 9
03 Solange - 12
02 Ruff Sqwad - 16
01 Tigercats - 23
Those DJ/Rupture plays are like 3 hours long I guess 'cos it's the mixes he gave away, Solange EP is just OK apart from the main single, Ruff Sqwad sounds better out loud than from your mp3 player headphones etc etc
* Unfortunately not with my thinly veiled girlfriend : (
Shit!
thanks for reminding me about those DJ/Rupture mixes - I'll get on that right now.
Accidentally only highlighted plays by the 3 black musicians in my list despite it being indie bands for the most part. Guess I've become a tumblr style crypto-racist.
Better than my (as far as I'm aware) entirely white list.
Bit scary actually.
i went through a phase of deliberately not listening to american stuff
probably a bit mental but hey
not really using last.fm as much but this is what i've been listening to
Royal Trux - Sweet Sixteen / just got it this week. Ridiculous amount of layers in the recording and very strange production means I haven't made sense of it yet. Songs don't seem that great compared to other albums so far but they might start sounding good with time
Misfits - Static Age / this might actually be one of my favourite albums. Also listened to Raw Power a bit. They are my two go-to mp3 albums if i'm having a bad day
Taming Power - 6 pieces & 21 pieces / homespun drone/exxxxperimental music from Norway. The 6 pieces one is particularly ace, parts of it remind me of the absolute best Vodka Soap/Spencer Clark things. Like infinite layers of chimey goodness.
EVOL - Right Nightmare/Rave Slime 12"s / these just arrived this week and they might be the most annoying records i've ever owned soundwise! They are funny. Just one classic rave synth sound warped/stretched on each side. And some locked grooves at the end which are cool. You can play them a bit like an instrument by manually slowing/speeding up the turntable. ANYWAY they have a great FACT mix which isn't abrasive or nasty like these records. It's just really good fun.
http://www.factmag.com/2012/05/21/fact-mix-330-evol/
Loop - Fade Out / Heavy 80s uk drone rock. cheap used lp that sounds ace
that is all
they had that Loop LP in my local chazzer a while back. left it alone though. they had this as well
http://www.covershut.com/covers/Bob-Dylan-And-The-Band---Planet-Waves-Front-Cover-16739.jpg
in the window. thought it would be a cool 90s US indie band but then it turned out to be Bob Dylan
#chazzermemories
i got a nice copy of Remain In Light in the chazzer
That Bob Dylan album cover is relatively okay innit, this one is maybe the daftest

1. I've decided that Fingerbib might be the most beautiful electronic tune ever made.
6. For some reason only really just got around to listening to 'Feels Like We're Only Going Backwards', been playing Elephant on repeat instead. Best thing to come out of Australia since The Avalanches.
8. Channel Orange only gets better with age. Great summer chill-out album.
11. Reliving my 13 year old angst by putting Bulls On Parade on repeat.
12. A Warp musician who I'd overlooked earlier, starting to really grow on me. Herzog is a great track.
On vinyl I've been listening to
My Bloody Valentine - Things Left Behind. It's a compilation of all their early stuff and it's... um... different. Kevin's voice is very odd, not sure it's something I can really get on board with. But some of the tracks are good as just throwaways. Very un-MBV though, serves me right really.
UNKLE / DJ Shadow - Be There. 8 track double single, it's brilliant, has the original song plus remixes (one by Noel Gallagher??!!) and some other really good dance tracks that went down really well at my last party. Found it in a bargin bin at the local record store for only $7.

Last.fm is kinda borked this week for me, think it's the new scrobbler which doesn't talk to iTunes...
Mostly listening to
John Coltrane - The Complete Africa/Brass Sessions
I love anything with two double bassists.
L.I.E.S presents American Noise Volume One
I didn't really like this that much but I'm really starting to enjoy it now. Good wholesome techno. What's the Legowelt record like which they put out?
Pantha du Prince & the Bell Laboratory - Elements of Light
Sounds great in the snow. Pantha playing with lots of bells. Very minimalisty.
Four Tet 0181
Pretty, bridges a gap between his old and new stuff
Fire! with Oren Ambarchi - In the Mouth - A Hand
This is really good, if you like nutty free jazz. What's the Fire! Orchestra record like?
I was thinking of getting Fire! Orchestra as well. This guy uploaded basically a whole live set to youtube and it sounds good
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGQH-Ne5Wis
They're over here in march as a threepiece, looking forward to that immensely
Finally got round to that LIES comp this week
Big fan of both the Torn Hawk tracks and Maximillion Dunbar so far, the rest all blends into one a bit at the moment bit it's a good blend.
I've reinstalled the scrobbler direct from the website and it's working fine with itunes
Although admittedly mine is still itunes 10 so maybe that won't work for everyone.

Yeye is so much worse when you can understand the lyrics
It's killed it for me
can't believe how much people
are wetting themselves over the new YLT album. and i'm a fanatic who thought summer sun was very underrated.

1. Mixtape of Baltimore club music that got some love over at Sterogum and other places (http://stereogum.com/1232281/mixtape-of-the-week-dj-angelbaby-get-pumped-vol-1/franchises/mixtape-of-the-week/). Most enjoyable way to get a headache.
2. Love Gunplay. Haven't actually heard his new mixtape yet, mostly been revisiting "Inglorious Bastard".
3. What else are you supposed to listen to when it snows?
6. Always like to revisit Vampire Weekend and wonder how a band so inoffensive can cause such drama...

01 I think Jacob's Ladder is my favourite.
02 Remember them?
05 Grief is still the best.
I think Solti's still pegged as the go-to man for the Ring cycle (I meant to do a 100-years-since-he-was-born thread last year, but thought nobody would be arsed)
It'll set you back a fair bit though.
I'll have a look around for it
I've asked for a ticket to see some of the cycle if there's a decent production (is that what you call it?) on over summer. if there isn't I'll settle for the CDs. thanks man!
If you get really obsessed with seeing a live production, you could always go to Bayreuth.
Waiting list's only about ten years.
1st time in two years!

1: Arc is cracking. They've traded a little of their bizarreness for some killer tunes and it's a worthwhile tradeoff.
3: omg him from King of Woolworths. I had no idea. Lovely stuff!
4: Totally not what I was expecting from a band name like that. Some good stuff but I think there's better to come.
