"Ha, I knew you'd say that. Um, I've just been working really hard. I'm a perfectionist and, when it comes to people I want to work with, I have changed my mind, like, millions of times. I started work on this new record in 2007 and I only feel right now that it's coming together."
"I never feel like I've been pushed towards a certain thing, but now, at 26, I do feel like I have integrity over my output, you know? There's a fine line between saying, 'You can't tell me what I can and can't do,' and taking on board people's opinions."
Look forward to the new Jose James record which is due around feb, feats Pino palledino & robert glasper so the bands gonna be pretty tight and his signed to blue note now which is pretty cool, widen his audience.
was one of the best songs from 2012 for sure. I know its been around since '11 but got an EP release last year so yeah.
He really went for a Voodoo vibe on that, interested to see if he keeps going that path or mixes it up. Sounds like he is trying to get that sound if he went and got Pino for a full length.
What were they thinking? She used to be in Dirty Money right? I loved that album, totally underrated.I guess people just couldn't take Diddy making a 'house' influenced album seriously.
It's just really breathy and catchy. That's the best track off that 3 track EP, think the album has a lot of potential. Can understand it being called 'wimpy' though ha.
Hell, she even started following me on twitter cos last.fm automatically posted that all i'd listened too last week was her and Marvin Gaye. Such a great EP. Feel like I'm back in 2004 when I put it on. This is a good thing.
Read about him in some Hit-Boy interview last year. I'll get on it. I'm enjoying this trend of 'behind the scenes' songwriters finding success now R&B seems to be getting big. The Dream set the precedent I guess? But there's Ocean, BJ the Chicago Kid and a load of the Surf School guys. Crazy how much talent there is in such integral positions who never even get heard of.
What's your favourite track on that Alston EP? Can't get enough of 'You Do That' and 'Pioneer' at the moment.
1) Counting is TOO good and nothing else really lives up to it.
2) Warning is actually painful to listen to, hate it.
3) He seems to sort of run out of ideas/lyrics in the second half of the album and just keeps whacking out the falsetto and saying 'baby' over and over again.
Point 3 may change given a few more listens. I've listened to the first half loads though and it's banging. Just a bit inconsistent.
A lot of the R&B I've taken an interest in is slinky and pared down, so this is a refreshing counterpoint. Judging by the similarities to Channel Pressure (and the fact that Software are involved in the release), I'm guessing Joel Ford and Daniel Lopatin had a lot to do with the production on Anxiety; I'm really looking forward to hearing a high quality version for the sonic flourishes that are lost in a shitty Youtube link. Good chance this will be my AOTY.
I like the feel of it and production; washes over me in quite a pleasant way but in terms of hooks and memorable melodies etc can't really pick anything out.
The subtlety is a major part of the attraction for me. There is so much beauty in the small sonic details, though. Love the mix overall, bass up high. That's something that really plagued his last album.
headed to lunch but I'll dive in with more details in a bit.
I was really hoping this might restore my hopes for (the album eventually known as) IV Play. It hasn't. I mean people might think Love King and FILA were weak singles but they were so much better than this. Even Dope Bitch was better than this.
I feel like its in the same class as FILA which is basically just Dream by numbers as well. Love King at least had a memorable hook and tons of memorable lines.
Speaking of Dream, you gonna fill out a ballot for the poll?
It's the first video from her upcoming mixtape "RockaByeBaby".
1. Intro
2. Paradise feat. Wiz Khalifa
3. Take Care of Me Baby feat. Pusha T
4. Addiction feat. French Montana
5. Numb feat. Rick Ross
6. Sound of Love feat. Jeremih
7. I Love It feat. Fabolous
8. RockaByeBaby
9. I Know Whatcha Want
10. Turn Up feat. Meek Millz
11. Do My Dance feat. Too Short
12. Bad Bitches feat. Ester Dean
13. All My Love
top 5 was a bit predicatble: burn, if i ain't got you, walked out of heaven, could it be and southside.
from it, though, i deduced that there simply is not enough compositing work in recent music videos. we need more fake highways and palm trees on fire. miguel take note.
re-post from badmanreturns on the hip hop thread
New Ciara track, co-written by Future, prod. by Mike Will
Not overly impressed.

http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds#/2
Gonna listent after lunch
Still getting into that new Future album
Kinds sits between R&B/Hip-hop for me, its pretty good. Pretty much on a par with that mixtape Astronaut Status at least.
Apart from that I've been on this: http://cassiecollective.tumblr.com/
The Future album is def a hybrid.
I love it, been listening quite a bit over the last couple months.
the mystique
"Ha, I knew you'd say that. Um, I've just been working really hard. I'm a perfectionist and, when it comes to people I want to work with, I have changed my mind, like, millions of times. I started work on this new record in 2007 and I only feel right now that it's coming together."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/nov/30/cassie-me-and-u
whoa i had no idea these cassie things existed
you just made my week
Lots of really nice stuff but some of the tracks are intro/interludes.
One of you enthusiasts needs to sift through these and provide some choice cuts
As much as I like Cassie, I'm not sitting through 3.5 hours of outtakes. That's impressive dedication to the cause.
yeah i could do that
cheers bud.
sure their must be a few killer tracks on there.
THEIR THEIR THEIR
New Future mixtape right here

Jhene Aiko - Mirrors

Pretty sweet.
pleasant
Chris turner
has a mixtape out you might remember his single liquid love from last year http://www.audiomack.com/album/chris-turner/lovelife-is-a-challenge
Chrisette michele has a new mix tape out which sounds really good esp the tracks with glasper & Bilalhttp://coast2coastmixtapes.com/mixtapes/mixtapedetail.aspx/chrisette-michele-audrey-hepburn-an-audiovisual-presentation
Look forward to the new Jose James record which is due around feb, feats Pino palledino & robert glasper so the bands gonna be pretty tight and his signed to blue note now which is pretty cool, widen his audience.
Jose James All Over Your Body
was one of the best songs from 2012 for sure. I know its been around since '11 but got an EP release last year so yeah.
He really went for a Voodoo vibe on that, interested to see if he keeps going that path or mixes it up. Sounds like he is trying to get that sound if he went and got Pino for a full length.
This Chris Turner had some tunes I liked.
fix
Dawn RIchard '86 got a vid:
http://youtu.be/6-C_NAt6uHY
HAHA this video!
so bad. Cool song tho
Love the tune but yeah the vid is soooo bad.
What were they thinking? She used to be in Dirty Money right? I loved that album, totally underrated.I guess people just couldn't take Diddy making a 'house' influenced album seriously.
Yeah she is from DDM and Danity Kane before that.
Album is really good.
What you think about Bayou?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0xrh0GnZNw
Not really r&b is it?
kinda flat, not really my kind of thing but thats a very popular sound at the mo
They call it bedroom R&B :')
http://pigeonsandplanes.com/2012/11/video-bayou-cherry-cola/
Gross!
regular r&b IS bedroom r&b though!
This shit is horrible.
Dominic Lord (Harlem, 2012)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbQV2M-Ij5A
Who made the "Window Seat" compilation that I picked out from a last year thread?
So good. We definitely need a new volume.:)
I made that one.
I'll make another mix at some point.
No mention of the new Justin?
http://youtu.be/cJzRZ0T5ewc Timberland's definitely still got it.
It had its own thread n all
but its cool after the intro. Robin Thicke lite but still cool.
I like the new Destiny's Child tune too.
Even if the beat is just breakbeat house rip off.
http://youtu.be/iPeRZk2MhPE
I think this had a thread too.
But I really love this song. Its very understated and not at all what I was expecting.
T_D
where you been man?
You like the Kelly Rowland single 'Ice'?
http://www.vevo.com/watch/kelly-rowland/ice-explicit/USUV71201625
It's pretty meh.
The most positive thing I have to say about it is at least its produced by David Guetta.
Motivation is so much better.
i love ice
semi-interesting mini-doc from Red Bull
deconstructing the whole 'indie r&b' thing a little. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SHHdJE7kMws
HTDW man comes across really well in this i think
Yeah
It's funny that nobody actually identifies themselves under that umbrella and are mostly really uncomfortable with it.
I really like HTDW and he was amazing live at Birthday's
Couldn't really get into the last album as much as the first, never really found there to be a time where I was in the mood for it.
This whole 'indie r&b' term needs to fuck off though.
The line is pretty thin between
stuff that I like and stuff that I can't stand.
One band only will incarnate R&B in 2013
Newcomers Inc.
Really loved the inc. EP from 2011
Looking forward to the album a lot.
What does this mean?
I assume you're talking about the oddly worded post itself Shippers
but just in case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fo2gOjag8OQ
Yeah I seriously
just had no idea how to translate that post. Cryptic stuff.
This is kind of in that same vein of stuff I dont like that much. Too flat and wimpy or something? Just not what I like or look for personally.
What do you like about it?
Really like the beat and the weird heavy sub-bass underneath it
It's just really breathy and catchy. That's the best track off that 3 track EP, think the album has a lot of potential. Can understand it being called 'wimpy' though ha.
Alicia sounds great on this, of course so does Maxwell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq_4JPkuCBQ
Also loving this new Tweet track
http://youtu.be/HEPMBfkfCco
^^I really like this Alicia song
What was her album from last year like?
not v good, its ok-ish
The slower ballady stuff is the best on it.
This Jade Alston free EP is front to back great
http://www.thisisrnb.com/2013/01/new-music-jade-alston-sunday-morning-single-on-a-saturday-night-part-ii-ep/
Everyone should listen to this.
I've been listening.
Hell, she even started following me on twitter cos last.fm automatically posted that all i'd listened too last week was her and Marvin Gaye. Such a great EP. Feel like I'm back in 2004 when I put it on. This is a good thing.
ha awesome!
Between that and this K Roosevelt http://www.earmilk.com/2013/01/10/k-roosevelt-rosegold-ep/ and the new Jose James I am set up for a while.
Oh I didn't know K. Roosevelt had anything out.
Can't get enough of 'You Do That' and 'Pioneer' at the moment.
new Autre Ne Veut album is good.
vaguely nsfw unofficial youtube link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjUQyU3esHI
I JUST CALLED YOU UP
TO GET THAT PLAY BY PLAY
Here's my problems with this record:
1) Counting is TOO good and nothing else really lives up to it.
2) Warning is actually painful to listen to, hate it.
3) He seems to sort of run out of ideas/lyrics in the second half of the album and just keeps whacking out the falsetto and saying 'baby' over and over again.
Point 3 may change given a few more listens. I've listened to the first half loads though and it's banging. Just a bit inconsistent.
Don't know how I missed Counting
Loved the last record, but I thought Play by Play was the first leak off of is. Just listened to Counting on YouTube and holy fuck.
Gonna get on the new album now.
Yeah I remember it coming out but didn't listen to it until the album leaked
It's just incredible. The strength of the best tracks really makes up for the flaws of the other songs on the record to be honest.
More excited for this than ever after listening to the album in full.
Usher - Go Missin (prod. Diplo)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kqhps0mif0A
eh this is ok.
yeah it is, but it's definitely not the Climax
and I'm not a big fan of Diplo work.
so a Climax was a one off then?
Yep.
That song is kinda special imo. Bulletproof. Just hooks on hooks on hooks
Yeah Climax is Obvs. untouchable.
I thought maybe it'd be the start of Diplo making good music. But as this shows he's back to making boring knock offs.
I like that one off the Katy B ep
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSmERvcbXoI
altho listening now I really only like it cos of Katys vocals.
Inc. album is leaked
stream it here:
http://www.thefader.com/2013/02/11/stream-inc-s-album-no-world/
This is nice
Can't say any tracks really stand out on first listen but it's really pleasant.
Sinking in now this record, really understated but keeps me coming back
Glad I got tickets to see them in a few months, seems like they could be pretty special live:
http://www.thefader.com/2013/02/22/video-inc-black-wings-live/
Juicy J ft. The Weeknd – One Of Those Nights

Autre Ne Veut - Birthdays, 17th April:

Wrote a lil review of Anxiety over here as well:
http://pelski.co.uk/autre-ne-veut-anxiety/
This new Ciara song tho
Produced by Mike Will, co-written by Future.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iHt8pkbCL8
Sounds a bit like 10cc
but with Ciara, Mike Will and Future.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rgepWg4rzw
made me wanna listen to this sensual omar-s joint
same ghost town djs sample innit - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtWqAxeDeEk
but man... mike will knows how to make the late night a great night
oh yeah!
tune
anyone like the new Bilal album?
interesting concept and decent enough, but doesn't get me particularly excited. bit '1 album a year your mum buys from tesco'.
enjoying it for now but can imagine in a week or so I'll never revisit it again
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nOnnsVUENA
I love it.
I thought I too might loose interest quickly but if anything it's grown on me. The second half is really stunning.
any particular tracks?
I like the feel of it and production; washes over me in quite a pleasant way but in terms of hooks and memorable melodies etc can't really pick anything out.
Yeah thats kinda how it goes on this one
The subtlety is a major part of the attraction for me. There is so much beauty in the small sonic details, though. Love the mix overall, bass up high. That's something that really plagued his last album.
headed to lunch but I'll dive in with more details in a bit.
The-Dream - Slow It Down
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPwkzdYN4JE&feature=youtu.be
I was really hoping this might restore my hopes for (the album eventually known as) IV Play. It hasn't. I mean people might think Love King and FILA were weak singles but they were so much better than this. Even Dope Bitch was better than this.
Its completely bleh.
I feel like its in the same class as FILA which is basically just Dream by numbers as well. Love King at least had a memorable hook and tons of memorable lines.
Speaking of Dream, you gonna fill out a ballot for the poll?
it's dumb as fuck
i love it
Cassie - Numb ft. Rick Ross

Mariah Carey featuring Miguel – Beautiful
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nl_68ghO1oI?
I like it, the mix seems a little off but still good.
this one's a real grower
i like that new kelis song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=eTKza__tP3w
Her voice seems kinda flat on it but I like the styling on the track,
seems like a good direction for her.
really like some tracks from sza's ep
Castles especially https://soundcloud.com/justsza/01-castles-prod-felix-snow?in=justsza/sets/s-ep some of it's kinda boring though, but there's two more eps on the way and i'm hopeful
This sounds very good.
DLing now. thanks
watched mtv base's slow jamz countdown yesterday
top 5 was a bit predicatble: burn, if i ain't got you, walked out of heaven, could it be and southside.
from it, though, i deduced that there simply is not enough compositing work in recent music videos. we need more fake highways and palm trees on fire. miguel take note.
oh yeah
not enough snowglobes either
seemed to be really early '00s centric, too
The Walked Out Of Heaven wobbly bass
Totally forgot about that song.
squelchy squelchy

Had a debate recently about Jagged Edge vs 112
I had to take 112 but it was hard.
Good call.
I like the addition of the awkwardly acted interlude in the new Body Party video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9rSBcoX9ak
More of that please too
New 8 minute track from The Weeknd
It's not quite his Pyramids, but given his sound had worn itself a little thin over the Trilogy, I'm enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would

Alice Smith - Be Easy

i really like this august alsina mixtape
http://www.datpiff.com/August-Alsina-The-Product-2-mixtape.485614.html
these songs are good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHrZk5PtF1I
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzCbCuAzgNw
i'm a bit wary of white guy r&b, but this is alright: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkWWJ9W5300
drake signed this guy recently, this sounds kind of like 'marvin's room': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zabAzltSQc8
The August Alsina tape is pretty good.
I just cant get into that stuff like Lapalux. I think Rhye is the closest thing to that style that I like.
