DiSsers Soundcloud Thread | 2013 Edition
Since the 'Let's Follow Each Other On Soundcloud' thread (http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4346505) was quite a success I thought it might be good to have a new related one so we have a place to collect DiS kids music from 2013.
So here it is.

Cutting a Drop of Water Pinned by Wire Loops Using a Superhydrophobic Surface and Knife
Here's a track I made last night, having a go at making some pretty, ambient-ish piano based drone.
https://soundcloud.com/meatbreak/cutting-a-drop-of-water
I had it all planned out then had some really annoying technical problems that threw my concentration right off, so it's probably a bit more aggressive than it was intended.
I enjoyed this.
It's like what I am trying to make myself. Cheers.
thanks sheeldz
do you have anything online yourself?
Not yet.
Still working on it. :)
This came on in my stream the other day..
It's gorgeous. What's your setup?
oh thanks you
set up is kind of what you can see in the picture of the track, if you saw it.
one track of:
Piano > boss eq > ehx freeze > akai headrush > boss dd6 > dod octaplus > earthquaker hummingbird tremolo > boss sustain > amp
second track of:
Piano > eq > headrush > subdecay prometheus dlx > amp
third track of bass guitar > headrush > amp
My amp is an Ampeg BA110. Little bass 'practice' amp, though it's massively loud. it has such a great tone, I love it.
maybe too much information there. could have just said 'a piano and a shit-pile of fx'
GEAR ENVY
Will have to have another listen now I know this..
sounds nice tho I was disappointed it wasn't actually the action in the title amplified somehow
Unfinished, but....
https://soundcloud.com/nobody_special/nobody-special-detuning
that's nice
I like the synth sound at around 2.30. What more do you want to do to it?
cheers!
Mainly tweaking production, e.g. overall levels are still a bit low, and also taking into account any feedback given
That old thread is so smashed to fuck
such a shame
Here's mine
https://soundcloud.com/body-in-the-thames
a couple of newish things up there but nothing from 2013 yet
though this;
https://soundcloud.com/body-in-the-thames/panno-impregnato-instrumental
will be getting a vinyl release in France at the end of the month/beginning of Feb
in that old thread I mentioned curating/presenting a best of DiS soundcloud podcast. I'm still up for doing this.
What did you have in mind?
Like, a one hour show every week/month showcasing your favourites?
yeah
a monthly one hour
not necessarily favourites as such, more something that shows a range - breadth and depth - of what the userbase is up to
Sounds cool.
Though you might have quite a bit to sift through, seems there's many a soundclouder among us.
that would be pretty cool
if you have the time/can be bothered. Less labor intensive might be to just make a monthly playlist of the few best things. Might not be as interesting though.
I'd tune in either way
well, I have my own studio and that so it wouldn't be so hard to do
in fact putting it together would probably be less labour intensive than the actual listening to everything
also, and I might be wrong about this but, I think having a short dialogue/presenting the track (maybe even a phoned-in short interview now and again) would make it more appealing/listenable
dunno
we'll see
It would
yeah
i agree, would be better for some words
Yep
I'll earmark the last weekend of each month to put this together in then
also, doing it like this should smooth out all the levels that banging together a playlist wouldn't do
As well as the podcast
How about a plug.dj session where we play our own (or each others') music? Could make it a regular Saturday morning thing.
not sure about that
I think I'd be more likely to listen to a podcast than just a playlist
but I imagine most people would be the other way around
working on it right now!
And here's mine

Been a bit slow of late but aiming to get on top of things this year...so expect at least another 2 songs by year's end...
Hello.
Here are some rough mixes from an album I'm working on.

Although since they updated the site it crashes my browser, which is fucking annoying. I was in touch with their support and they were like oh download another browser and i was like, nah mine's not that old and they were like oh we can fix it and yeah then i forgot and it still doesn't work. Hmm.

I don't know how to describe it, there's a things that are kind of noise, there's some folky stuff, piano stuff, a few loop based laptop things... Mainly just myself improvising over and over until a song is made.
Recordings are a bit hissy and badly mixed. Making up some tapes at the moment to put out for free.
definitely gotta remember to listen to yr stuff tomorrow
I like the description and I get the feeling that yr username is a Sparklehorse reference.
this is great
lots of space around the sounds.

I haven't really done much since the last thread, but I am forcing myself to put some more tunes up on it within the next few months!
for once in these threads I actually have some news...
because today Norman Records gave our new record a 5-star review! (http://www.normanrecords.com/records/138201-plantagenet-3--the-darkening) They say "a midpoint between The Shadows, Ennio Morricone and Earth." Anyway, I shouldn't be smug as this is probably the peak of our career and it'll all be a downward spiral of drink and drugs from here on.
anyway, here's our URL:

Hi
http://soundcloud.com/deathbridges
These are some rough recordings of pop songs by my brother and I. Featuring proper guitars, synths, haircuts etc.
Hi all
Some shameless Grouper/Slowdive appreciation going on here, if that's your sort of thing (and why wouldn't it be?)
http://soundcloud.com/stormsonthemoon
Ok
https://soundcloud.com/loadsofjapanesebands
Noisy guitars and laid-back singing. Also a little koyaanisqatsi-esque chanting in there.
If nothing else, it's short.
Cool!
sounds like Belle & Sebastian with balls. Hairy.
Thanks.
I'm glad the balls were noticed ;)
not done owt since the last one

here's ole me

Did quite a bit in 2012, esp. towards the end of it. Got some plans for 2013 though, including a new EP on Bandcamp ver, ver soon (preliminary JAGedy JAG)
Good thread again!
Here's mine. A couple of slower ones and a remix.

I think I added a good few of you the last time we did this
My stream seems to be a mixture of acoustic, electronic and noisy stuff at the moment. Jack of all trades, master of non etc
https://soundcloud.com/jonny_rat
Haven't finished it, but it's a start i guess

Progtronica. If that's a word.
Two demos - unmastered. Album / website / gigs this year.

Some pretty good stuff here - will have to get adding...
Here's a new song we did that I think is really good
https://soundcloud.com/#aquaticslime/hold_on
unfortunately I don't know a thing about mixing/mastering so somehow everything sounds too loud
not much is new from last time
but here's my messy sample stuff on audacity
https://soundcloud.com/james-mackey
Mine again, still mostly misc experiments/in-jokes/live stuff/remixes
https://soundcloud.com/cementimental
just uploading one of my more ambient/music-ish attempts right now
but it's already online anyway, last track of this: http://cementimental.bandcamp.com/album/the-next-cdr
it's up :)
mein soundcloud, folk black metal

solo project i've got going there...
Here's mine

If there are any London based guitarists who fancy joining us then that'd be cool too.
A new song that I finished recently...
https://soundcloud.com/noflowers/with-a-mouthful-of-iron
I was a bit trigger happy on a tambourine in points, I was trying to play it like a free jazz drummer.
Here's the soundcloud for the band I play guitar and do a bit of singing in as well:
https://soundcloud.com/the-orchid-family/cave-of-trees
The mix is a bit flat so I think we are going to get around to remixing it pretty soon. We've been compared to ATDI/Mars Volta/Pink Floyd. Short bits of sort-of-post-hardcore with a bit of ambiance/improvisation.
new stuff coming soon!
