Coming out on a Non Plus+ comp I think. Not heard anythign else off it yet I dont think but its five plates deep so there will prob be somethign else good on it. Prob from Kassem Mosse and Lowtec in partic.
One on Wild Oats Kyle Halls label who he also colaborates with on the NSNT PRJCT from a few years ago, which to be honest I wasn't feeling much at the time but now I'm wondering if I should go and grab it.
to the extent that I genuinely find it's affected my love of Hotflush and his music, although that has a lot to do with the decline in quality as well I guess.
people have been calling him a twat for many many years and now that twiter exists its prob many many many more haha. But yeah no idea what he's been on about the music is enough to put me off without taking a closer look.
Noisy grindin sorta techno thing from Opal Tapes. Love track 3 and 5 at the mo. I need to get on that 1991 opal tapes album n'all dunno how I missed that.
Just caught onto this right at the end of last year, its so infectious. Its some kinda lo-fi synth funk thing like Dam-Funk or whatever. Its pure vibes.
Never really been into Andy Stott I think he's kinda arse/boring. I dig what I've heard of Perc tho, not heard any Lowjack or Mondkopf I don't think. Move D is a load of fun as a DJ prob oen of the best around and I love Omar S on the whole. Love stuff from Virgo but yeah they're prob a nostalgia act and I don't have much time for that kinda thing after being bored sensless by original house guys recently like Kerri Chandler and Moodymann who sucked so hard it was unreal. But yeah do what ya like haha.
if nothing else it'll probably be a bit more 'fun'/celebratory but it depends what you're looking for i guess. move d is a great dj, have yet to catch omar-s.
Some of this kinda sounds to me like its taking off where Darkstar left with Need You in some ways, that digital accordian-ish sounding sound. Its got a mad trancy bleepy Damu meets Zomby thing going on too. Keysound are gonna be interesting again this year, they're building a little kinda scene of their own almost with Beneath, Logos, LHF, Visionist, Wen, Walton, Vibezin, e.m.m.a. etc...
really sounds like Artifact or something rather than Damu in my mind even tho it is Damu... I like it but kinda miss the epic melodic bleeps he's so good at. Cool to hear somthing more tracky from him tho.
Only into a few tracks so far by them, maybe one... That one on the EE sampler was the best I'd heard from them I think it had more slink to the beats than anything else I'd heard from them. Early days for them tho, could be good.
Perfectly pleasant but doesn't deserve anything like the hype it's got.
Kind of a shame that Dope Jams are closing down too (their shop anyway, apparently the site will still be going), although their record shop elitist schtick probably lost them as much business as it won.
The track Dope Jams picked on was lame mind. I love myself some Jus-Ed tho he makes so many killer tracks but yeah the odd one slips in thats not to hot. Underground Quality is a wicked label.
train/petrol is pretty epic price wise from up north where I live and thats before I even get to London. Can't afford it right after crimbo. Lineup looks amazing tho.
out in feb. keysound taking absolutely no time at all to run tings in 2013. follows the beneath ep nicely with sinister and spacious 130 grimey/funky rollage business.
really hope they put some stuff out from EMMA too this year. her showcase on the keysound end of year special was >>>>>>>>
I've still not got around to listenign to that end of year Keysound spesh I need to get on that. Only just had time to dig into that Beneath double 12" as well and another Beneath 12" on Tectonic just hit my mat this morning too.

that the two unknown Actress tracks are: Silver Cloud Dream Come True / Floating In Ecstasy in that order in this mix now I've seen it pop up in a shop and not on the white lable I've got.
does have the odd killer track tho: Batak Groove, Battle For Middle You, Batty Knee Dance. Batak Groove being the best by miles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiAJLBT8ue0
"OH BABY" is probably the least original thing I've ever heard. It's a shame because I really love the actual track underneath. Battle For Middle You is pretty similar in that people just cling to that vocal hook, but I guess it's not as bad.
Any version of that track doesn't have the annoy stuttering eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh sample cutting snippet thing that Au Seve and Footsteppin have that makes the track feel like it goes on forever.
he was on radio one for a while I think and Au Seve, battle for middle you have been pretty big crossover hits in house circles that wouldn't normaly go near bassy stuff like big room tech house people and all that. Think he did some production for Jesse Were, dunno, is that big? I tryed listening to his radio one show once but, fuck me it was boring. But then Mosca's radio one shows where boring too and he's a load more fun genraly than Bashmore, same with Skream and Bengas show who where insanly fun on Rinse. Dont really wana hear Jackmaster's new show on radio one incase its boring too haha.
Bashmore has never pretended to be anything other than he is. Mosca has always come across as incredibly condescending and then he goes and makes that godawful Katy B version of Bax.
Anyway, Bashmore didn't 'take elements of good music into the mainstream', he just made catchy songs that got popular.
Bax was insane and even the more techy house stuff recently is still more fun than Bashmore. But yeah Bashmore has never pretended to be anything but what he's doing now, I mean his first release was on Dirty Bird and they're an arse big room tech house label.
Dispite it being one of my favourite Boddika tracks along with Breezin' and somat else... and Mickey Pearce being a badman, I dunno if I need this one. Seems about 2 years too late.
Glad Uno NYC got mentioned, really odd little label with a few great but completely dissimilar releases. The EPs that Gobby and Don Froth put out for them are both awesome.
It's alright, solid but not spectacular. Much as I like it I'm getting a bit annoyed at mixes that drop Studio Power On into places that it really doesn't fit.
Only got it because they send it early to the subscribers. Don't think the Fabric mixes usually end up on Soundcloud/Mixcloud or anything like that either.
But following the Ben Klock, Daniel Avery and Zip ones was always a big ask. It was like the Oneman one for me, a good listen but no real risks and not that much that I hadn't heard before.
I don't usualy shit on random PR stuff that hits my inbox, its usualy a case of ignore and delete but this made me lol. Title of the email was *Radiohead meets Bass Music*...

Swamp 81, the radio show is so shit now. There is a thing at the mo for really boring stripped down dark tech house outa that camp thats so dull its unreal. Like its taking the dubstep/funky darkside and sticking it to really boring 4x4 beats. When its delivered all at once it sounds so shit. I like some of the stuff in moderation and there are obvious exceptions like Joy Orbison, Mickey Pearce, etc that are onto something but then you have endless tedius stuff from people like Paleman, Zed Bias, Chunky, New York Transit Authority, Thefft, Dusky, Boddika, etc... You hear it in other areas too from people like South London Ordnance and even Artifact and Damu are starting to sound the same from their last singles. Its so tedius all at once, maybe if it was mixed up a little it wouldn't sound so shit, I dunno. Anyone else noticed this?
I go to Swamp nights to hear fucking weird shit, not to listen to the same dark 4x4 shit everyone else is playing. It's a real shame, maybe they'll work their way out of it. To be fair, Zed Bias, Klose One and Mickey Pearce all delivered good sets that night but still.
cos there is still good stuff in there so it still feels like something good could come out of it but the swathes of shit are really starting to drown it all. Its like one step away from being that boring tech house thing like Huxley or whatever. Hell even T.Williams is going that way too. Dunno what the draw is all of a sudden for that big room tech house thing.
Mickey is an underated DJ and really coming into his own as a producer too. He was a badman as Shortstuff but hell he's upping his game.
Fucking love his productions, his remixes when he first switched aliases were ridiculous.
But yeah as you say it's frustrating, house and 4x4 stuff is taking over the bigger nights at the moment, and all the smaller nights are impossible to drag anyone I know along to ha. Basically just gonna start going to stuff on my own once I have a pad sorted in LDN I think.
he's playing here for free next week on a thursday and I can go as I have friday off... Here's hoping he's doing something more interesting by then. Scratcha DVA on the bill too, which will be great if it's anything like his Rinse breakfast show.
Omar S on friday was a bit insipid too, far too much stuff that sounded far too similar, every now and again he'd drop a great track, but too much disappeared into mulch. Move D was super fun though.
Is a lot of fun, he kinda plays a bit housy too but more in a chunky, swung fun kinda way with lots of synths and grimyness. Dunno Loefah might be alirght he's just hit'n'miss don't think thats anything new tho. I've been to lots of DMZs where he's been shit at dubstep too and plenty where he's been ace at it. He's just got a bit pradictable if you listen to him more than once a year now, so if you haven't he will prob be alright haha.
yeah loefah was terrible when i saw him a few months ago. played both au seve and battle for middle you. wat
Have a new one out, still kinda trying to work out if they're any good or not outside of their colabs with Blawan. There is somthing really stale about their arrangments when they aint with him that puts me off, yet I love the sounds they make so much. Kinda wish they'd just make some sounds and givbe them to other producers to make tracks out of. Couple of these sound promising tho, but then you cant hear the whole arrangment without getting the 12" really, damn.
I'm not really that fussed about it since I've got all teh singles I wan't from it already. But its prob a good intro to the last year or so from Night Slugs to people that haven't been paying attention to them. Stalker Ha, Drum Track and Silo Pass are pretty spesh. On the fence about a lot of the rest and L-Vis is still awful, standard.
from what I've heard of it anyway. Didn't like that Night Slugs construction series thing either, didn't really work for me. Bring in the Kaaaaaaaatz is fine but he doesn't do much to it, I dunno why you'd play his dub above the original.
they bang, I just find them boring most of the time and kinda bandwagon hoppy a lot of the time which is really suprising considering the label he runs but there you go.
Didn't quite match up to his singles: Refix EP, Magic Drops, Waterworx. I really liked The Courts and almost like How We Relate To The Body. Found the album a hard listen really, don't know why.
First half an hour of their live set was just pandaemonium. Like an all out nuclear war breaking out in a factory.
Ben UFO was cool, but he seems to be too obsessed with variety at the moment or something, there's not enough coherence between what he's mixing at all and he doesn't play quite enough instantly recognisable stuff for that to work live. Good to hear him drop some Perc and the Shackleton Kasai Allstars mix as well as some other stuff.
Redshape was interesting, half of it was really shit cheesy jock techno but half of it was really cool. he finished with a super housey euphoric track which was brilliant, anyone familiar with his work can tell me what it might have been?
I'm cool with the name post-dubstep, there are some very 'post-dubstep' sounding stuff out there. Is all the stuff in that little doc post-dubstep nope but it sure is a thing now, more so than it was when the term first appeared.
Crazy live PA set from Shawn O'Sullivan, who also trade crazy Regis/Unit Moebius inspired stuff as Vapauteen for L.I.E.S.
Sounds like a storm blowing itself out over the sea or something; lovely sounds.
http://blowinguptheworkshop.com/project/8--shawn-osullivan/
It was on Ben UFOs Fabric CD, not his label, that was the last EP on Hessle Audio. This one is on Mute's Liberation Technologies imprint who put out King Felix (Laurel Halo) and British Murder Boys last year. /endnerdmode
they spiced the sound up a bit on Faint with Ramadanman but I don't need to hear a VIP of this or anything on this tip from them for a while yet its way over done and has been for some time now.
It's got a monotonous drive that I get a kick from- I've been going through a lot of obscure 80s industrial/no-wave tapes lately and it mirrors the production of them quite interestingly.
It's a bit like people who say the Raime LP should more variation, blowing in and out. That's not really the point- they quickly build a level of tension and then sustain it until you feel it wrenching your gut.
Which is probably why i'm even mire confused that Powell hasn't been doing it for me... It all sounds a little too close to Cabaret Voltaire to me, maybe that's it.
I get the same feeling from Powell that I do Andy Stott, ideas look good on paper but they don't move me when I hear them. They sound like they're playing dress up like a lot of that modern love/boomkat endorsed stuff and I'm not sure why but I get that vibe from it. There needs to be an edge there somewhere that puts it over and I can't hear it or place much of a reason for why it aint there but it aint.
This Brooklyn guy has a debut album out in a couple of months (23 April). He called it "Raw Solutions" and here is a track from it:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=00LjTxi-qH8
Boddika doesn´t really look depressed, he looks more like those dudes who go sit in a corner to wear off some really crappy E´s and are always about to puke.
What do people like on this tip at the moment? Keeping it UK like the article mainly...
I think Blawan's projects are head and shoulders above the rest at the moment. Karenn with Pariah, Parassela with The Analogue Cops (they Italian but still gonna mention it) and Trade with Surgeon is promissing. They're easily the most consistent anyway. The rest like Truss, Perc, AnD, MPIA3, etc have their moments but never really hit that sweet spot for long for me. Surgeon has had soem good new stuff again recently and there was a killer remix from Female a year or two ago that was hard as nails. I've not really investergated much Regis or Blackest Ever Black because the little I've knowingly heard hasn't done much for me but it might be good I dunno... There is just something really wicked about Blawan's stuff, it doesn't fall into the trap of just being dark and banging, its got an energy to it that keeps it moving more than a lot of his counter parts. Its some fun shit overall if you're in the mood for it mind.
But I would never really consider listening to his later, grittier shit at home. It's too just too raw and raucous, don't really see the appeal for 'headphone' listening. The only BEB shit I really go in for in that respect is Raime because they're fucking gripping and it's incredibly atmospheric. But yeah I basically think that Blawan and Analogue Cops and that have their place, and it's very much firmly within the dirty walls of the fort at 4am at Dimensions.
I haven't read this article yet btw. Also I just wanna say I'm looking forward to Pariah doing some shit on his own again soon cos he's got a lot more to give away from the relentless 4x4 scene for sure.
seems to be consistently improving. The FSG album is outstanding as well. I sometimes find it hard to know exactly what fits in to this sort of thing, Gary Beck had an album last year that was excellent but I don't know to what extent it's applicable to this. Probably a bit too house-y I guess.
He one of those guys that makes awsome sounds, you know with all them synths and that but I still can't remember any of his tracks ever. They sound fine enough and yeah this ones alright but then its gone.
Mondkopf has put out an EP on Perc Trax. It sounds like an EP on Perc Trax should sound.
But I've seen him multiple times over here, and in a town full of Berlin-lite copyists (at least that's how it feels these days), someone from Paris who generally opens his DJ sets with Tuvalan throat singing and or gregorian chanting and then follows with a mix of fucked up dark techno and drone and noise is always to be saluted.
Thought it was going to be one of those eclectic mixes that didn't really fit together but the Leviathan, Darkthrone and SunnO))) stuff was barely noticeable and didn't disrupt the mix at all. Tracklist didn't list Altogether Lost by Emptyset either, which was an unexpected treat at the 40 minute mark.
Definitely one of my most anticipated releases for this year, this flip of Rick Ross has been tiding me over: http://adhoc.fm/post/dj-rashad-cant-hold-back/ Dude is pretty much the king of footwork in my view. Teklife is a masterpiece, and word of any new material is pretty much guaranteed to have me salivating.
Rashad is indeed the king of footwork. The album is something else. Prob my favourite from last year. There is nothing like it. Did you hear his remix of a remix:
Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the ambient/noise thread, really odd plunderphonics thing on PAN. Quite noisy and choppy but has a really cool horror movie feel in places.
New release on a new label but still the same sort of thing from these two, which is no bad thing IMO. This track's pretty typical, woozy central melodies skittish mid-paced beats that give it a very relaxed feel.
not sure why, it just hasn't grabbed me yet. Its all a bit too wishy washy prog synth overload a lot of the time for me. Looking forward to hearing more from Bookworms tho the 12" on LIES is awsome.
It's the other side of the LIES coin, the prog synth stuff of Legowelt, Steve Moore etc. compared to the dirty, noisy techno of Torn Hawk, Vapauteen, BonQuiQui and Two Dogs in a House.
I dunno, they seem really ace at making sounds but nothing more to me. Kinda frustrating in that sense. Xosar kinda straggles that line too but makes it bump a big more somehow. I mean in Legowelts remixes of Xosar you can hear it in action Legowelt just makes the stuff sound really boring but with good synth sounds. In this one that nice bumpin Bookworms vibe isn't there at all its all summer picknick phone advert synths and no real vibe.
I absolutely love Funkystepz approach to remixes - just grab an r'n'b track they like and fuck with it unofficially, they do it so often and pick some great songs. Plus they always sound great too which is a plus.
He's setting up a raw techno label, you know like everyone else haha. But yeah I was skeptical cos his own techno bits haven't been to hot on the most part but I'm turned around by this mix. Its nice raw, bangin as all hell and fun. Plus its got a techno track by Silkie in it which is pretty wicked and soudns exactly as you'd expect a Silkie techno track to sound.
As far as grime going on where I am, there’s no scene to speak of and I hope it stays that way. I think I’m an anomaly in that most people doing grime outside of the UK aren’t very good, they don’t get it.
His new Opal Tapes cassette is really great. Charmingly entitled P*ss Fell Out Like Sunlight. Very much on the Ekoplekz noisy plunderphonics trip, but with a lot more Actress-wooze about it.
Listened to it a couple of times today, pretty much what you'd expect from those involved. Touch This Skin would be the strongest track but it never quite gets where I want it to but otherwise it ticks all the filthy techno boxes.
Also in Surgeon news, his new one is streaming on Resident Advisor.

"a larger-than-life synth breakdown – wait until 1.05 on the below Soundcloud clip to see what we mean." - just two chords that sound like they came from Wut? Great...
This sounds nice enough. Was hoping for more hyper 2-step stuff from Deadboy really, especially as he's been away so long, although Black Reign is cool I guess. That breaks one is kinda overshadowed by the new Sully really.
I think, works. Dunno I hardly vere read bits they have to say nowadays. Just listen to stuff. Its a mission enough to navigate around without having to read the words too.
But yeah not keen on the bits that use his own voice. doesn't work as well as his hyperactive cut up stuff but I guess thats a played out sound now.
its usualy the first place for news that then appears everywhere else. But yeah the writing suffers.
The interviews are usualy a good read tho. Oh and they have good mixes on occasions. Been a while since I've enjoyed a mix mind. Mickey Pearce in December was the last one I thinks worth a listen, before that Ryan Hemsworth in October, DJ Q in August before that.
I think I play it more than the albums. Have got the Hemsworth one but never listened to it all the way through. Same with the 3 hr Hieroglyphic Being monster.
I don't think DJ Q has any albums yet. He's doing one this year tho I think. Are you thinking of DJ Qu the house guy from Strength music kind in that Jus-Ed Underground Quality deep house scene? He's got some albums. I love both Q & Qu haha.
Think it's the kind of thing I only like in small doses. Either that or this sounds more restrained. I do love those little arpeggiated trills that him and HudMo do all the time..
This is his more experimental, noise arty guardian arts section stuff. He's got a new Surgeon record out later this year too. Which is great, because the last one was a few years ago now.
More real nice deep as all hell NYC house music. There has been so much of it released this year so far its prob gonna be my next mix even though I wanted to do a grimy synth one, but all the music thats really exciting me out of that aint hit wax yet and I don't have any digi means of mixing.
I've started a new tapes series as a sort of Blowing Up The Workshop x Opal Tapes collaboration with Stephen- splitting up the two sides of a tape between two artists to kind of open up some kind of conversation between the work.
The first two volumes are out now. The first is split between Prostitutes and Basic House, and the second between Hobo Cubes and a duo called Rolling Acres. There's quite an interesting disparity between the two volumes; the former noisey/dark/dry/techno/bone-rattling in comparison to the more playful and airier elements of the latter. There's samples and stuff for both on my site:

I only really want BRTHDJTT and Quivver from the whole comp. Kinda want Kassem Mosse too but I aint as fussed about those. Will prob break and get the boxset instead tho to see if it grows on me.
I'd not checked the indervidual tracklists BRTHDJTT doesnt seem to be on the digi or CD. lol feel sorry the CD and digi get scuba and vinyl gets prob the banger of the year so far haha.
I aint too fussed I just wont buy to many beers for some weeks haha
Joy O doesn't seem to do many digi releases anymore so maybe it aint happening. Shame really it'll just get ripped from the vinyl and knicked by half the DJing world letalone the mear mortal listeners.
Seems odd to leave the best biggest track they've had as a label in years off the comp like that bar the mega expensive boxset. I wouldn't have bought this comp if it wasn't for this track.
Clearly knowing that most people were looking forward to the comp due to this track, it's almost like some sort of internal backlash, like they didn't want all the attention and popularity. Wouldn't have been hard for them to just announce this beforehand either rather than have everyone speculate and be disappointed.
Was kinda suprised that even the digi download with the boxset doesn't have BRTHDJTT! on it either when I went to DL it the other day and it also means that now I have another Scuba track on my PC that wasn't needed as they added all the tracks not on the vinyl to the download but still left off BRTHDJTT! haha. Joy Orbison musta goit mad pissed off from gettin Hyph Mngo attention some years ago that now he wants everything to be more lowkey somehow, which is kinda hard when you made another big room banger. Dunno why he doesn't embrace it and give more people the chance to enjoy it. I did hear talk that it wasn't on the comp cos of samples or whatever not being cleared so keeping it vinly only and smaller scale wont get them in trouble like a full on big selling digi release might. So who knows could be bollocks.

Fact say its liek a mix of Animal Collective and Other People Place. It kinda is. Like this way more than that boring Bashmore collab that came out recently.
"There's a melancholy pop pulsing at the heart of these tracks, coloured by a love of electronic mutations from UKG and Hardcore rave to House and Techno, most evident in the unusual recording process undertaken while constructing the EP."

Real nice playful lowkey take on minimal. Wasn't sure at first but its got a wicked searching on the downlow throwback to peak era minimal and villalobos or something thats pretty refreshing, light and fun while still being real deep and hypnotic.
Real nice dark bristol house/techno dark bassy hybrid stuff. I kinda thought the Rhythmic Theory 12" on BRSTL and their own self tetiled label kinda sucked hard and was really boring generic dub techno fodder but this is a big step up.

Not sure about it, sounds a bit like... Diplo? Well it does for the most part, the other bits that don't sound like Diplo seem to have been tacked on. Not his best.
Which isn't much of a problem since they release so much. Not keen on the Tectonic release. Mister Saturday Night are nice, Oxfore Brown by Archie Pelago and that first Anthony Naples 12" was wicked. This is alright too, not blown away by it. Kinda like the third one. Liked the odd track on the 50 Weapons 12" that came out this year. I dunno something about them that doesnt sound right to me a lot of the time. They aint quite there yet, it can all be a bit messy rather than experimental which I think is what they're going for.
Shame it never came out really, it aint that diffrent to the original its more like a subtle slightly warmer funky laid back cover or something. The original by Peverelist still sounds like nothing else. Pretty much all Pev sounds like nothing else to be fair. But yeah this is one of the best Harmonimixes.

Maybe they should have just given a mix CD to DJ Rashad instead haha. Looking forward to this tho looks ace.
Potential for album of the year judging from the clips. He's one of the founders of the sound alongside DJ Rashad, I think he came before Rashad even. He's just insane.
He's got a 12" coming out on White Material, which is a label turning a few heads at the minute- just picked up distribution from Honest Jons. He put together a gorgeous little mix all of his own material, nice soft deep house vibes:
http://blowinguptheworkshop.com/project/12--galcher-lustwerk/
His harddrive broke whilst it was coming together so this is the last instance of the material too (hence it being 192, downloaded from a soundcloud link)
massively enjoying lumigraph's 'nautically inclined' on opal tapes. pretty much what you'd expect from this label - mangled, industrial-tinged house/techno, great stuff though. wavewatcher is a banger.
http://opaltapes.bandcamp.com/album/lumigraph-nautically-inclined
I'm in two minds about this kinda half stepping electro d'n'b stuff from people like Om Unit who has got really bad in recent years the footwork juke stuff just didn't work really and the newer half stepping stuff is just a bit all over the place and dull... dBridge and that Autonomic sound from a while back was better but fizzled out. Most of it is so tedius but I kinda like this one on Hotline.
Hyped for this, he was so good back in 09-11. The album didn't live up to that potential for me so hyped to get these on the go since they're from that time.
Randomer can be hit'n'miss but I dig these. There is nice ravey, fun, really heavy vibe going thru a lot of stuff at the moment which is a welcome return. Stuff from Tessela hits that spot n'all. Hackney Parrot and that remix of Alex Coulton just bang even if they are a bit derivitive of rave, jungle and whatever troups.
Nice teaser for the forthcoming album on Idle Hands. Its a wicked sunny raw fun grooving electro jam, doesn't sound like much else they've done really but suits them to a tea.
cos he cant get his scheduled shit out I can see how that would be annoying when he's on such a roll with his 12"s selling out easily all the time. Plus as a customer its a bit annoying that a load of releases are getting held up from going to press because of a load of re-issues and all that espesh when things where getting going again for new releases after the usual winter slump.
Dunno if I'm that fussed about stores not had one near me for ages, and defo not a good one for about a decade. Vinyl sale will continue if shops in real life exist or not, it'll just go online. Plus the shops I would want to save are specialist anyway and prob will get like one record from the record store day schedule if that.
Breakbeat funky bass hybrid. Kinda got that raw jungle breakbeat hosue vibe with a uk funky kinda bassline rollign with it. Not far off soemone like Altered Natives. I like it when breaks come into house and it doesn't sound to much like nu-skool breaks like the latest Swamp 81 stuff or Paleman or whatever they're all a bit boring. This is nice and leary though.
will cease trading at the end of the year, as i'm sure many of you found out over the weekend via donga's post on fb etc. as a sort of tribute to one of my favourite imprints in recent years i put together a youtube playlist of what i reckon were their best bits. if you never followed this label i really recommend dipping into this; donga had such an ear for wicked artists that were often - and in some cases sadly still are - overlooked.
They where always one of those labels that had really good artsist but never really got their best tracks a lot of the time and spread themselves kinda thin as well. They looked to be on the up after a few years of less quality stuff though with stuff like Archie Pelago so its a bummer in that respect.
Soul Motive went this year too, they where a quality little label that launched some quality people like Well Rounded did. people like Joker, TRG, Julio Bashmore, Hyetal, Eleven Tigers all getting really early releases with them.
Came at a time when that cut up vocal thing was really starting to hurt my brain but still this track sounded good. Would of really killed if it existed in 09 same with this new one really. Dunno somat kinda dated about Koreless now. It's cool they stuck to their guns tho and kept on with the cut up vocals cos Deadboy has tryed to branch out and its kinda shit.
This might be the ultimate sell out of 12"s quicker than Joy Orbison combination. All the Mala heads out there buy his shit in seconds anyway and well its James Blake.
Out next week. Quality record label thats still pretty underated really. Well worth a look if you haven't got a load of the 12"s already from over the years.
He's got an album out, I've not had chance to grab it yet but what I have heard is well nice. Kinda like an organic sounding Burial ir a trip-hop UK kinda version of something like Sepalcure. If you've heard the guys mixes you'll know how perfect he's suited to the album format, his mixes are like lost soundtracks to films.
Pretty sure there is a Richard Skelton sample at the end of that track I linked. But yeah this is like some kinda up to date UK pirtate radio version of Endtroducing era DJ Shadow.
His track came out in 2011 and it was knocking about for a while before that in his sets. He's got a close connection with the LuckyMe Glasgow peeps who are also good peeps with the Numbers lot, also from Glasgow, who are putting together this festival. This fest only came about this year, well its a re-up of an old fest a decade ago people like Aphex Twin and the Warp lot use to play at... But they more than likley named the whole fest after the track cos it rocks.
good stuff, i'd just assumed it was new cos it was put in the promo stuff i saw. if i didnt have final year of uni stuff going on i would have been very very tempted to go.
i really love hudson but only really have the studio stuff and more recent mixes that have surfaced in the last couple of years. any older stuff you can point me in the direction of?
They wacked it up for download cos its old plus they prob couldn't get away with making it a 12" again since HudMo is now working with Kanye and all that, he's a bit more high profile now so bootlegs have to be extra sly or free haha.
He's not got a lot out really for someone doing so well, but he has been about for ages so if you've got this: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Hudson+Mohawke the Valentines Day mixes and TNGHT you're good.
thats the kind of stuff that creeps into the dance mongrel threads on the sly, more than welocome. I'm always on about Ekoplekz who has had a EP on the label. He use to be Gutterbreakz a true blog legend back in the day: http://gutterbreakz.blogspot.co.uk/
Easily. It does kidna sound like Jam City but then Night Slugs defo have a sound going on and this kinda sounds like a stripped back Bok Bok or Girl Unit or a less house MikeQ or whatever rather than a saight up Jam City rip, sounds like Night Slugs.
its meant to be in there. Kyle Halls 808 dub is a beast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89hU0OKLL84 I love Anthony 'Shake' Shakir he's a legend, this 12"/7" is the only stuff I've got from this alias though. Have you heard the comp from a few years ago call Frictonalisim? Its ace. I still need to get the KMFH album, let us know how it sounds.

I've been waiting two years for that. Stayed there until the very end, first time i've done that in ages. Shackleton honestly mind blowing live, Pev brought some really heavy stuff to start out with and Pinch's first half hour was honestly the best dj set I can remember seeing. Recognised less than 50% of what he was playing, anyone got a recent mix or track list from him? Wanna know what he was smashing my skull in with last night. Appleblim til dawn was just the perfect revival set as well. Awesome all round, best night in a club I've had in ages.
so does Pev too really. But yeah it may have been new stuff thats gonna be on his new label Cold. He did a mix to set the tone of the label: http://coldrecordings.com/mixes/pinch-cold-mix/ There isn't a tracklist though. Shackleton live is so good no one does it like him.
Shackelton and Villalobos are up there as people that no one else can really sound like. I'd put Peverelist in that catagory too no one sounds like him either.
Not seen Pinch for a while but I think he's playing a lot of Beneath, Dark Sky, Elmono and I think he's getting more into producing himself again so prob a load of that. Dunno if I'm into the Cold stuff yet, its kinda like a lot of the new Swamp 81 stuff from like Paleman and the like, its just really dark bassy tech house essentialy. Some cool stuff but yeah I dunno yet really, will see how it goes.
Just hard heavy and ponderous sounding, so I reckon it could be that Cold stuff. He ended up playing what sounded like loads of trap and grime mixed into UKG and funky. amazing how trap just sounds exactly like grime instrumentals at times.
May have been grime guys making trap style beats there are few around now Darq E Freaker does it quiet a bit and yeah Decibel is a UK guy making trap-esq stuff at times. So they have that grimy dubstep edge to them.
Razz is a right laugh sounds like Pangaea doing a techy version of 90s hardcore or something. Rest are nice and tracky, not heard much on that tip from him.
My last few mixes have been pretty dark and either fucked up and noisy or deep as owt. This one mind... Is stricktly bangers. Some kinda tropical grime house madness. Just a fun one that bangs hard.

Odd Detroit techno thing.
This is really warped
love it, sounds like it's coming out of the ether yet bangs hard at the same time.
He's got a few other 12"s too
The Upstairs Apt. EP on Don't Be Affraid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_cGLBOKW6s love that track, sounds like a spaced out underwater acid thing.
One on Wild Oats Kyle Halls label who he also colaborates with on the NSNT PRJCT from a few years ago, which to be honest I wasn't feeling much at the time but now I'm wondering if I should go and grab it.
Dense & Pika - Crispy Duck
https://soundcloud.com/hotflush/dense-pika-crispy-duck-ep
Big thumping house on Hotflush. Came out in December but deserves more attention.
Awful
Hotflush kinda fell off big time for me last year bar maybe Lando Kal and he prob did his best stuff elsewhere too.
I quite like it, but agree in general about Hotflush
That Jimmy Edgar album was an abomination.
Scuba's pissed me off too much in the last year
to the extent that I genuinely find it's affected my love of Hotflush and his music, although that has a lot to do with the decline in quality as well I guess.
I've not taken any notice of him
people have been calling him a twat for many many years and now that twiter exists its prob many many many more haha. But yeah no idea what he's been on about the music is enough to put me off without taking a closer look.
I dunno.
Quite like some of his trancier stuff.
He's great on Twitter too, very smart guy.
A1 on

Seeing as we don't have a House/Techno thread this year (yet?) this can go in here.
Yeah do it
I was just gonna post stright up house/techno here to really. Unless there is a big call for another thread.
Function is the big one here for me, can kinda leave the rest right now. Hypercolour are always hit'n'miss like that for me tho.
Might as well just all go in here
The lines are so blurred that a lot could go in either thread anyway.

Question for y'all
Have the choice between...
Omar S/Virgo Four/Move D and Perc/Andy Stott/Lowjack/Mondkopf
for my birthday club. Leaning towards Perc even though I've already seen the rest of the bill. Opinions?
well...
I have a hankering for some very muscular techno
But I don't know if my entourage will.
Really want to see Omar-S and Move D but Perc has been on the list for ages...
seeing moodymann was probs the most fun i've had in a club
might've been an off night? although i suppose he's not the greatest dj in the traditional sense
Move D & Perc seems like a pretty safe bet
What are the rest of the line ups like?
Wait I get it's 2 line ups now
I haven't seen Stott or Perc so I'd probably hit that, seen Omar S and caught a bit of Move D on NYD though. Both v good, Move D is a great DJ.
would go for the former
if nothing else it'll probably be a bit more 'fun'/celebratory but it depends what you're looking for i guess. move d is a great dj, have yet to catch omar-s.
oh wait lowjack's productions are great tho
E.M.M.A.
https://soundcloud.com/oiiemma
Some of this kinda sounds to me like its taking off where Darkstar left with Need You in some ways, that digital accordian-ish sounding sound. Its got a mad trancy bleepy Damu meets Zomby thing going on too. Keysound are gonna be interesting again this year, they're building a little kinda scene of their own almost with Beneath, Logos, LHF, Visionist, Wen, Walton, Vibezin, e.m.m.a. etc...
Oh yeah, the new Damu is really great, kinda heavy and grimey for him
https://soundcloud.com/damu/sets/damu001
Also this E.M.M.A. stuff sounds nice. Definite Zomby vibe about it, that Cherry Favour track sounds like it was literally lifted off One Foot...
Anyway, <3 Keysound.
Yeah that Damu is pretty good
really sounds like Artifact or something rather than Damu in my mind even tho it is Damu... I like it but kinda miss the epic melodic bleeps he's so good at. Cool to hear somthing more tracky from him tho.
fabric's new artist-led label
http://houndstoothlabel.com/
Pretty exciting
Rob Booth from EE is doing A&R for it
http://electronicexplorations.org/
So should be ace.
Looking forward to the Akkord one
Yeah I dunno
Only into a few tracks so far by them, maybe one... That one on the EE sampler was the best I'd heard from them I think it had more slink to the beats than anything else I'd heard from them. Early days for them tho, could be good.
Their EE podcast from last year was one of the best I reckon
Will probably pick up that Call Super anyway, sounds good from that sampler.
can i put this here?
good for a laugh. http://www.dopejams.net/010113.html
Agree about New For U
Perfectly pleasant but doesn't deserve anything like the hype it's got.
Kind of a shame that Dope Jams are closing down too (their shop anyway, apparently the site will still be going), although their record shop elitist schtick probably lost them as much business as it won.
yeah they kind of acknowledged as much in the press release.
i dunno, bit weird that people (producers or whoever) get so worked up about it all the same.
haha
Jus-Ed made a diss track for getting a mention in that: http://www.factmag.com/2013/01/07/stream-dj-jus-eds-dum-jams-dish-his-diss-track-aimed-at-new-york-record-store-dope-jams/
The track Dope Jams picked on was lame mind. I love myself some Jus-Ed tho he makes so many killer tracks but yeah the odd one slips in thats not to hot. Underground Quality is a wicked label.
have to say i'm obsessed with this one.

train/petrol is pretty epic price wise from up north where I live and thats before I even get to London. Can't afford it right after crimbo. Lineup looks amazing tho.
i'm gonna head down as a belated birthday treat

A side of the Silver Cloud 12" that appeard and dissapeared in seconds late last year. Its getting a full release sometime this month tho I think.
wen EP on keysound
http://soundcloud.com/w3n/commotion
out in feb. keysound taking absolutely no time at all to run tings in 2013. follows the beneath ep nicely with sinister and spacious 130 grimey/funky rollage business.
really hope they put some stuff out from EMMA too this year. her showcase on the keysound end of year special was >>>>>>>>
Wen's a badman
http://www.sonicrouter.com/2012/11/sr-mix-147-wen-egyptian-avenue/
Mix from late last year...
I've still not got around to listenign to that end of year Keysound spesh I need to get on that. Only just had time to dig into that Beneath double 12" as well and another Beneath 12" on Tectonic just hit my mat this morning too.
That Trim (I assume) sampling one reminds me a lot of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceztTNXIK0A
Ah I hadn't listened to this, assumed it was a sampler of the entire EP
And I'm also not convinced it's Trim anymore haha. Either way, point stands.
Vocal sample is Dot Rotton
Only just clocked who it was after recognising his voice but not narrowing it down. Cant think of the track tho.
A ha!

It does sound a LOT like Floating Points though...
Yes
It is a tremendous piece of work. The leak is terrible quality though, ordered the cd.

Oh hello
Evening
Yeah new one from me.
http://xpldr.tumblr.com/post/40526833462/slump-mix
I kinda hate early Jan, this mix kinda sums up my feelings to it vibes wise, dirty, grinding low slung fucked up dark and long techno shit haha.
Loads of stuff on there I've wanted to hear for a while but haven't
Haven't heard Karenn or MCMXCI yet, good chance to hear both of them. Will never know how you afford all this vinyl though...
Pretty sure...
that the two unknown Actress tracks are: Silver Cloud Dream Come True / Floating In Ecstasy in that order in this mix now I've seen it pop up in a shop and not on the white lable I've got.
Basic House - Blowing Up The Workshop
http://blowinguptheworkshop.com/project/6--basic-house/
new syclops album on the way!
previews sound incredible, cannot wait for this.
http://www.junodownload.com/products/a-blink-of-a-eye/2111280-02/
and judging by the previews, it means that this track is finally getting a release:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPe_2xW6n_0
oh man
Velour (Julio Bashmore + Hyetal)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=erVIbIpY3Ew
well at least it aint boring chugging tech house
kinda boring tho, not as fun as the night slugs release the other year, which was also a bit boring mind...
notta fan of Bashmore
he's got really shit
does have the odd killer track tho: Batak Groove, Battle For Middle You, Batty Knee Dance. Batak Groove being the best by miles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiAJLBT8ue0
footsteppin' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeBmP-hTxQU
nah
find the vocal sample really annoying, same with Au Sauve.
The problem with Au Seve is definitely the vocal sample
"OH BABY" is probably the least original thing I've ever heard. It's a shame because I really love the actual track underneath. Battle For Middle You is pretty similar in that people just cling to that vocal hook, but I guess it's not as bad.
Ramadanman's remix of Battle For Middle You is pretty ace
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnpFAcx-t_8
Any version of that track doesn't have the annoy stuttering eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh sample cutting snippet thing that Au Seve and Footsteppin have that makes the track feel like it goes on forever.
He's pretty big these days isn't he?
Kind of respect him for taking elements of good music somewhere into the mainstream.
Kinda yeah
he was on radio one for a while I think and Au Seve, battle for middle you have been pretty big crossover hits in house circles that wouldn't normaly go near bassy stuff like big room tech house people and all that.
I have way more of a problem with Mosca than I do with Bashmore
Bashmore has never pretended to be anything other than he is. Mosca has always come across as incredibly condescending and then he goes and makes that godawful Katy B version of Bax.
Anyway, Bashmore didn't 'take elements of good music into the mainstream', he just made catchy songs that got popular.
I just like Mosca's stuff more
Bax was insane and even the more techy house stuff recently is still more fun than Bashmore. But yeah Bashmore has never pretended to be anything but what he's doing now, I mean his first release was on Dirty Bird and they're an arse big room tech house label.
I'd love Mosca to go back to making shit like Tilt Shift
Never gonna happen though.
Wouldn't say the Jackmaster show was essential listening, but it wasn't boring. Tracklist here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01pl9t4
I thought he was a regular now, but I can't see any other shows scheduled.
He's doing one a month, I think
cause of the four of them rotating, so the next one won't be for a while.
I really enjoyed it actually, a good fun listen and by far the best show on R1 at the moment.
Finally some new Deadboy
He's annoyingly, er, un-prolific.
Not sure I'd ever bother listening to any of these Radio 1 shows tbh.

Nice dreamy stuff on WerkDiscs, good to see the label back on a roll again. This is a free taster from the forthcoming EP.
Quite a nice little article on dance music in NYC on p4k
http://pitchfork.com/features/articles/9033-the-new-brooklyn-underground/
Been a while since I've seen any good dance coverage on there, prob since Blackdown left them a year or two ago.
Read that this morning
Glad Uno NYC got mentioned, really odd little label with a few great but completely dissimilar releases. The EPs that Gobby and Don Froth put out for them are both awesome.
Yeah I really like those two releases
Not heard much else, just seen these from SFV Acid tho: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvYe1PFruek / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW8NU8tyiNc pretty nice.

Boomkat said: "slo-mo dub-techno for fans of Andy Stott or Indigo". Not so sure about that but it is nice.
So who's got the Ben UFO mix then?
Yeah
It's alright, solid but not spectacular. Much as I like it I'm getting a bit annoyed at mixes that drop Studio Power On into places that it really doesn't fit.
That's a real shame
Was looking forward to hearing it. Seeing him with Karenn & Redshape in 2 weeks time
He just did a mix for bis
http://www.beatsinspace.net/playlists/655
He's on Rinse every 1st + 3rd Thursdays 11pm-1am of the month, if you've got a UFO shortage.
I catch the Rinse shows when I can
big fan of his stuff
Didn't know this had come out- is it on soundcloud
or have you got a link if not?
Not out until the 21st
Only got it because they send it early to the subscribers. Don't think the Fabric mixes usually end up on Soundcloud/Mixcloud or anything like that either.
Ah, right, if it's not all that great anyway I'm quite happy to wait a few days!
It's a perfectly good mix
But following the Ben Klock, Daniel Avery and Zip ones was always a big ask. It was like the Oneman one for me, a good listen but no real risks and not that much that I hadn't heard before.
Oh, I'm not a fan of Oneman, I remember not really getting into that.
Ben Klock one was great though. I'll probably check this out anyway; he's done decent mixes before.
The UFO Fabric mix is pretty good (agree with the use of the Joe track being a bit of a clunker though)
But I don't think he'll ever top that Trilogy Tapes cassette- probably his apex.
Silkie - Neckback / Tribal [Deep Medi]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vdo3lsCDIBE / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UyYtC0xtp0

FeroX - Gargoyle
https://soundcloud.com/black-acre-records/ferox-gargoyle
Been loving a lot of what I hear from Black Acre and this is easily my favourite thing so far this year
Whats going on with...
This being a good example of how boring you can get
http://www.factmag.com/2013/01/28/fact-mix-367-paleman/
even with having some good artists tucked away on there.
Loefah at Swamp81 on NYE was so disappointing that I left
I go to Swamp nights to hear fucking weird shit, not to listen to the same dark 4x4 shit everyone else is playing. It's a real shame, maybe they'll work their way out of it. To be fair, Zed Bias, Klose One and Mickey Pearce all delivered good sets that night but still.
Its frustrighting
cos there is still good stuff in there so it still feels like something good could come out of it but the swathes of shit are really starting to drown it all.
Mickey Pearce is definitely my favourite Swamp member as it stands
Fucking love his productions, his remixes when he first switched aliases were ridiculous.
But yeah as you say it's frustrating, house and 4x4 stuff is taking over the bigger nights at the moment, and all the smaller nights are impossible to drag anyone I know along to ha. Basically just gonna start going to stuff on my own once I have a pad sorted in LDN I think.
It could be worse I guess...
Loefah hasn't quite gone full on into that Animal Youth, Route 94 mode yet, now thats the real hardcore shit of this ilk.
Ah man that's a shame
he's playing here for free next week on a thursday and I can go as I have friday off...
Scratcha
Is a lot of fun, he kinda plays a bit housy too but more in a chunky, swung fun kinda way with lots of synths and grimyness. Dunno Loefah might be alirght he's just hit'n'miss don't think thats anything new tho. I've been to lots of DMZs where he's been shit at dubstep too and plenty where he's been ace at it. He's just got a bit pradictable if you listen to him more than once a year now, so if you haven't he will prob be alright haha.
yeah loefah was terrible when i saw him a few months ago. played both au seve and battle for middle you. wat
I can't bloody escape
Au Seve at the minute.
it's just so obnoxious

The Analogue Cops
https://www.vinylunderground.co.uk/vinyl/New-In-Backcatalog/House/Five-EP/
Have a new one out, still kinda trying to work out if they're any good or not outside of their colabs with Blawan. There is somthing really stale about their arrangments when they aint with him that puts me off, yet I love the sounds they make so much. Kinda wish they'd just make some sounds and givbe them to other producers to make tracks out of. Couple of these sound promising tho, but then you cant hear the whole arrangment without getting the 12" really, damn.
Oh yeah you can listen to Night Slugs Allstars Vol.2 here...
http://www.residentadvisor.net/feed-item.aspx?id=58775
I'm not really that fussed about it since I've got all teh singles I wan't from it already. But its prob a good intro to the last year or so from Night Slugs to people that haven't been paying attention to them. Stalker Ha, Drum Track and Silo Pass are pretty spesh. On the fence about a lot of the rest and L-Vis is still awful, standard.
To be fair to L-Vis...
He does do a good job once in a blue moon
http://youtu.be/KfKoxjaUtc0
bangs
But...
this sounds pretty bangin https://soundcloud.com/clone-nl/clone-jack-for-daze-017-l-vis
and you know, bring in the kaaaaaatz goes off
Not keen on that Clone 12"
from what I've heard of it anyway. Didn't like that Night Slugs construction series thing either, didn't really work for me. Bring in the Kaaaaaaaatz is fine but he doesn't do much to it, I dunno why you'd play his dub above the original.
His productions sound big tho
they bang, I just find them boring most of the time and kinda bandwagon hoppy a lot of the time which is really suprising considering the label he runs but there you go.
Didn't you like the Jam City record?
Thought you would've loved that
Some of it...
Didn't quite match up to his singles: Refix EP, Magic Drops, Waterworx. I really liked The Courts and almost like How We Relate To The Body. Found the album a hard listen really, don't know why.

It was on Ben UFOs Fabric CD, not his label, that was the last EP on Hessle Audio. This one is on Mute's Liberation Technologies imprint who put out King Felix (Laurel Halo) and British Murder Boys last year. /endnerdmode
Killer EP.
Ah man, burned
It is bloody great. Scratcha was so much fun last night, Loefah too, he played mostly dubstep from 2008. It was brilliant.
sounds wicked
Thats the time you wanna catch Loefah in my opinion, Scratcha is a badman his productions are kinda underrated somehow even tho he's on Hyperdub haha.

Powell new EP (released last month, I guess)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Qu-Cj1qz1A
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tq9s-EqCdW0
I feel like there's something I'm missing with Powell
It seems a bit too simple for me, as much as I love the sounds he's using the rhythms aren't as powerful as some of the other stuff of that ilk
I kind of love that it's not so 'full frontal' in this regard
It's got a monotonous drive that I get a kick from- I've been going through a lot of obscure 80s industrial/no-wave tapes lately and it mirrors the production of them quite interestingly.
It's a bit like people who say the Raime LP should more variation, blowing in and out. That's not really the point- they quickly build a level of tension and then sustain it until you feel it wrenching your gut.
I get that and I love the Raime ep to give just one example
Which is probably why i'm even mire confused that Powell hasn't been doing it for me... It all sounds a little too close to Cabaret Voltaire to me, maybe that's it.
for me it doesn't quite work either
I get the same feeling from Powell that I do Andy Stott, ideas look good on paper but they don't move me when I hear them. They sound like they're playing dress up like a lot of that modern love/boomkat endorsed stuff and I'm not sure why but I get that vibe from it. There needs to be an edge there somewhere that puts it over and I can't hear it or place much of a reason for why it aint there but it aint.
Yeah the new Andy Stott was super disappointing in that respect too
Didn't like Stott
Do like Powell

The industrial techno revolution (UK Edition)
http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1774
Its some fun shit overall if you're in the mood for it mind.
i like Shifted
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc9N7jmJ0Mo
i can take or leave some of it though. still exploring. Rob Booth's had a lot of mixes from those kind of heads lately , http://electronicexplorations.org/?show=truss-mpia3
I enjoy seeing Blawan play out now and again
I agree that Blawan is the hottest right now
seems to be consistently improving. The FSG album is outstanding as well. I sometimes find it hard to know exactly what fits in to this sort of thing, Gary Beck had an album last year that was excellent but I don't know to what extent it's applicable to this. Probably a bit too house-y I guess.

Here's an interesting project
http://www.kisskissbankbank.com/en/projects/industrial-soundtrack-for-the-urban-decay

Legowelt - Stargazing EP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJxFmHheh7c
Like this, got a much ravier feel than his LIES stuff.
Never really seen the fuss about Legowelt
He one of those guys that makes awsome sounds, you know with all them synths and that but I still can't remember any of his tracks ever. They sound fine enough and yeah this ones alright but then its gone.
Like this vibe more than his trad progy synth explorations tho, reminds me of old bleep tracks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5h8OVOFOYc / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBgztBW01jg
He's gone all Lindstrom on us.
I'm going to rep my place of residence here
Mondkopf has put out an EP on Perc Trax. It sounds like an EP on Perc Trax should sound.
But I've seen him multiple times over here, and in a town full of Berlin-lite copyists (at least that's how it feels these days), someone from Paris who generally opens his DJ sets with Tuvalan throat singing and or gregorian chanting and then follows with a mix of fucked up dark techno and drone and noise is always to be saluted.
listen to it here
http://perctrax.bandcamp.com/album/the-nicest-way
the last track 33,000 bells is really good.
Googled his mixes on the basis of that description
Stumbled across this: http://www.mixcloud.com/Mondkopf/bodytonic-podcast-oct-2011/
Judging from that tracklist I'm going to either love or hate this.
That one's a heavy one
His full length LP is good, but his live mixes are the best.
http://boomkat.com/downloads/450794-mondkopf-rising-doom
So was it love or hate or indifference?
Arse, I forgot to listen.
I shall rectify that now. Right now.
This was excellent
Thought it was going to be one of those eclectic mixes that didn't really fit together but the Leviathan, Darkthrone and SunnO))) stuff was barely noticeable and didn't disrupt the mix at all. Tracklist didn't list Altogether Lost by Emptyset either, which was an unexpected treat at the 40 minute mark.
countdown to DJ Rashad - Rollin' EP
Definitely one of my most anticipated releases for this year, this flip of Rick Ross has been tiding me over: http://adhoc.fm/post/dj-rashad-cant-hold-back/
Dude is pretty much the king of footwork in my view. Teklife is a masterpiece, and word of any new material is pretty much guaranteed to have me salivating.
Yeah can't wait for the EP on Hyperdub
Rashad is indeed the king of footwork. The album is something else. Prob my favourite from last year. There is nothing like it. Did you hear his remix of a remix:
https://soundcloud.com/djrashadteklife/trg-broken-heart-martyn-dcm
Killer.
DAMN SON WHERE'D YOU FIND THIS
Yeah, that track destroys.
he gave it a way on his soundcloud at xmass
https://soundcloud.com/djrashadteklife
he puts up allsort on there. I think there is going to be a Rashad & Manny EP on Lit City at some point, can't wait for that too.
Teklife is one of the most extraordinary things I've heard the last couple of years
just seems to come out of absolutely nowhere.
New Ekoplekz stuff due on Editions Mego!
http://www.factmag.com/2013/02/18/ekoplekz-returns-to-editions-mego-under-ensemble-sklectrik-alias/
Hurrah! Ensemble Skaletrik suggests Ensemble Economique.
Anyway, last album was killer, so this wil be too... I think I like him best when he's doing dubby long form noise John carpenter workouts.
Jar Moff - Commercial Mouth
http://open.spotify.com/album/7swXZzLKmcp20vaqS08loi
Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the ambient/noise thread, really odd plunderphonics thing on PAN. Quite noisy and choppy but has a really cool horror movie feel in places.
Sully - Solitaire
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdejuMFVpZ8
:)
Bookworms and Steve Summers - Confused House 1
New release on a new label but still the same sort of thing from these two, which is no bad thing IMO. This track's pretty typical, woozy central melodies skittish mid-paced beats that give it a very relaxed feel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axzl79tfbcs
I can't seem to get into any Steve Summers stuff
not sure why, it just hasn't grabbed me yet. Its all a bit too wishy washy prog synth overload a lot of the time for me. Looking forward to hearing more from Bookworms tho the 12" on LIES is awsome.
Haha, I get the feeling these sort of repetitive synthy explorations aren't your thing in general
It's the other side of the LIES coin, the prog synth stuff of Legowelt, Steve Moore etc. compared to the dirty, noisy techno of Torn Hawk, Vapauteen, BonQuiQui and Two Dogs in a House.
Yeah
I dunno, they seem really ace at making sounds but nothing more to me. Kinda frustrating in that sense. Xosar kinda straggles that line too but makes it bump a big more somehow. I mean in Legowelts remixes of Xosar you can hear it in action Legowelt just makes the stuff sound really boring but with good synth sounds. In this one that nice bumpin Bookworms vibe isn't there at all its all summer picknick phone advert synths and no real vibe.
maybe its the house beat that just kills it off for me
if this stuff didn't have any beats at all or odder beats it might work better for me but with a 4x4 trundle behind it it doesn't seem top fit at all.
I can see what you mean, particularly as the synth line doesn't match the beats at all
I quite like the phone advert synths though ;)
DJ Rashad - Rollin' EP [Hyeprdub]

Untold Pennyroyal Mix
http://www.dummymag.com/mixes/2013/02/22/premiere-untold-pennyroyal-intro-mix/
He's setting up a raw techno label, you know like everyone else haha. But yeah I was skeptical cos his own techno bits haven't been to hot on the most part but I'm turned around by this mix. Its nice raw, bangin as all hell and fun. Plus its got a techno track by Silkie in it which is pretty wicked and soudns exactly as you'd expect a Silkie techno track to sound.

they might know one another somewhere along the line...
What do we all think of Trade then?
Listened to it a couple of times today, pretty much what you'd expect from those involved. Touch This Skin would be the strongest track but it never quite gets where I want it to but otherwise it ticks all the filthy techno boxes.
Also in Surgeon news, his new one is streaming on Resident Advisor.

Yeah it just kinda bangs
dose what it says on the tin, solid all round. Don't know if it reached the highs of the last Karenn double 12" or Parassela tho.

http://www.factmag.com/2013/02/28/south-london-producer-deadboy-uses-his-own-vocals-for-the-first-time-on-numbers-release-blaquewerk-stream-samples-inside/
Only really moved by Geek'd Up at the moment mind.
FACT are so bad at reporting sometimes
"a larger-than-life synth breakdown – wait until 1.05 on the below Soundcloud clip to see what we mean." - just two chords that sound like they came from Wut? Great...
This sounds nice enough. Was hoping for more hyper 2-step stuff from Deadboy really, especially as he's been away so long, although Black Reign is cool I guess. That breaks one is kinda overshadowed by the new Sully really.
they just chuck stuff up for quick hits most of the time
I think, works.
I really like FACT because they literally post anything and everything
It's like a constant feed of new stuff. But yeah, the writing is sort of shit.
yeah thats why I like it
its usualy the first place for news that then appears everywhere else. But yeah the writing suffers.
The interviews are usualy a good read tho. Oh and they have good mixes on occasions. Been a while since I've enjoyed a mix mind. Mickey Pearce in December was the last one I thinks worth a listen, before that Ryan Hemsworth in October, DJ Q in August before that.
oo the video interveiws are a really nice touch too
wish more people could afford to do stuff like that.
That DJ Q mix is amazing
I think I play it more than the albums. Have got the Hemsworth one but never listened to it all the way through. Same with the 3 hr Hieroglyphic Being monster.
More than the albums?
I don't think DJ Q has any albums yet. He's doing one this year tho I think. Are you thinking of DJ Qu the house guy from Strength music kind in that Jus-Ed Underground Quality deep house scene? He's got some albums. I love both Q & Qu haha.
Identification card...
DJ Q - Bassline, garage, fun as fuck, wonderbeast.
DJ Qu - Deep hypnotic deep house thats acctual deep house.
I meant the compilation he released, The Archive
autocorrect on a touchscreen meant I typed albums
rather than album
ah yeah
I always forget that exists, if I want a DJ Q fix I always go to one of his mixes too.
Barnt - Tunsten
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcHALgT71BA
Propper dip shit dramatic fun time garage with stupid minimal techno kinda style cartoon builds.
i really like 'ariola', definitely along similar lines to geffen though.
The dude in the hat at the front of that video is loving life
sure is
the whole set its from is pretty much all out ace fun.

Rustie - Shlasherr
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=stT4VAnVfY4
Pretty much exactly what you'd expect but still :D
I like this and I really didn't like the record
Think it's the kind of thing I only like in small doses. Either that or this sounds more restrained. I do love those little arpeggiated trills that him and HudMo do all the time..
Incredible tune
And it's only a b-side (well, double AA side).
Pre-ordered mine already https://bleep.com/release/42235-rustie-triadzz-slasherr
yeah, dunno why i listened to this, but it reminded me how terrible rustie is.
New Anthony Child (Surgeon) stuff
This is his more experimental, noise arty guardian arts section stuff. He's got a new Surgeon record out later this year too. Which is great, because the last one was a few years ago now.

Surgeon - As You Breath Here Now

From late last year is some disturbing sci-fi dystopia business. Love it.
Etch - Scattah
https://soundcloud.com/d9kabloowww/scattah-dusk-blackdown-rinse
RAW reminds me of DJ Zinc in his breakbeat garage days but a bit more spaced out and rude.

Mirror & Gate
I've started a new tapes series as a sort of Blowing Up The Workshop x Opal Tapes collaboration with Stephen- splitting up the two sides of a tape between two artists to kind of open up some kind of conversation between the work.
The first two volumes are out now. The first is split between Prostitutes and Basic House, and the second between Hobo Cubes and a duo called Rolling Acres. There's quite an interesting disparity between the two volumes; the former noisey/dark/dry/techno/bone-rattling in comparison to the more playful and airier elements of the latter. There's samples and stuff for both on my site:
http://www.blowinguptheworkshop.com/mirrorgate/mirror--gate--vol-i/

Wasn't BRTHDTT meant to be on this Nonplus compilation thats out today?
https://bleep.com/release/42160-various-artists-think-and-change
is it only on vinyl or something?
CD / Digital / Vinyl boxset
A lot of the tracks are coming out on single sampler 12"s too.
This is their label shop with it all: http://www.surus.co.uk/Nonplus-Records/
I only really want BRTHDJTT and Quivver from the whole comp. Kinda want Kassem Mosse too but I aint as fussed about those. Will prob break and get the boxset instead tho to see if it grows on me.
oh yeah
I'd not checked the indervidual tracklists BRTHDJTT doesnt seem to be on the digi or CD. lol feel sorry the CD and digi get scuba and vinyl gets prob the banger of the year so far haha.
Had this on most of the weekend
The Four Tet track is the standout for me. Not usually big on Four Tet either, but this has an awesome deep house vibe that really works.
Probably the best Four Tet track I've heard
Has a little more whoomp than his normal stuff.
It seems to be the only track not included on the digital or CD
That is really really annoying.
maybe it'll be a single proper later on digi and 12"
its too big to not be really. I'm off the for the vinyl boxset so I don't have to listen to Scuba.
There's just no way I can stretch to forty quid sadly :(
its tight but...
I aint too fussed I just wont buy to many beers for some weeks haha
Joy O doesn't seem to do many digi releases anymore so maybe it aint happening. Shame really it'll just get ripped from the vinyl and knicked by half the DJing world letalone the mear mortal listeners.
NonPlus have confirmed BRTHDJTT is *never* coming out digitally
And 'might' be released on a 12" 'in a few months'.
:/
Gutted
Seems odd to leave the best biggest track they've had as a label in years off the comp like that bar the mega expensive boxset. I wouldn't have bought this comp if it wasn't for this track.
It seems like a bit of a 'dick move' as someone on Facebook put it
Clearly knowing that most people were looking forward to the comp due to this track, it's almost like some sort of internal backlash, like they didn't want all the attention and popularity. Wouldn't have been hard for them to just announce this beforehand either rather than have everyone speculate and be disappointed.
Or just fill the comp with Scuba to put people off oh wait they tried that
Was kinda suprised that even the digi download with the boxset doesn't have BRTHDJTT! on it either when I went to DL it the other day and it also means that now I have another Scuba track on my PC that wasn't needed as they added all the tracks not on the vinyl to the download but still left off BRTHDJTT!

Its on True Panther too
maybe indie kids will like it and pick it up then too.

Lowtec - Port Carbon EP [Brainmath]
http://recordsaremypillow.myshopify.com/products/lowtec-port-carbon
Real nice playful lowkey take on minimal. Wasn't sure at first but its got a wicked searching on the downlow throwback to peak era minimal and villalobos or something thats pretty refreshing, light and fun while still being real deep and hypnotic.
Shawn O'Sullivan & Civil Duty - Security [The Corner]
http://boomkat.com/vinyl/676336-shawn-o-sullivan-civil-duty-security
Bangin' noisy, inventive underwater NYC techno. Wicked label.
Rhythmic Theory - Legacy Of The Lost / Riveted [Idle Hands]
http://www.idlehandsbristol.com/site/products-page/featured-products/rhythmic-theory-legacy-of-the-lost-riveted-idle-hands/

I believe this is actually the A-side
I don't mind it, but it's a bit underwhelming after Slasherr - should have released them in the opposite order

Yeah its sounding good
I think its in this mix somewhere and the last bok bok mix up thread somewhere.
Dark Sky have a new one out on Tectonic this week:
https://soundcloud.com/dark-sky/confunktion-1
Which sounds typically big.
But they ALSO have this interesting little EP coming out on some Brooklyn house label which sounds LOVELY:
https://soundcloud.com/mistersaturdaynight/sets/dark-skys-in-brackets-ep-clips/
Quite a departure for them, but sounds great. These guys are fucking ace basically.
I find them really hit and miss

Potential for album of the year judging from the clips. He's one of the founders of the sound alongside DJ Rashad, I think he came before Rashad even. He's just insane.
think you lot might like this
http://drownedinsound.com/news/4146268-mixtape-exchange--luke-abbott-vs-dam-mantle
Galcher Lustwerk
He's got a 12" coming out on White Material, which is a label turning a few heads at the minute- just picked up distribution from Honest Jons. He put together a gorgeous little mix all of his own material, nice soft deep house vibes:
http://blowinguptheworkshop.com/project/12--galcher-lustwerk/
His harddrive broke whilst it was coming together so this is the last instance of the material too (hence it being 192, downloaded from a soundcloud link)
Violetshaped
Pretty into this, 'Spectral Nightdrive' is like some glitched-out breakbeat techno formed from clipping and skips.
http://boomkat.com/vinyl/681586-violetshaped-violetshaped
massively enjoying lumigraph's 'nautically inclined' on opal tapes. pretty much what you'd expect from this label - mangled, industrial-tinged house/techno, great stuff though. wavewatcher is a banger.
http://opaltapes.bandcamp.com/album/lumigraph-nautically-inclined
TNGHT - Acrylics
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEegVa1UD3Q
Nah, not feeling this at all.
was expecting to hate
but i actually quite like this. albeit mostly for the bits that remind me of being 8 years old and busting mad groovez to early prodigy
dBridge RA podcast
excellent - http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?id=358
Lurka - Full Clip/BR Greaze
http://youtu.be/V9bC6gpMCx8
I'm in two minds about this kinda half stepping electro d'n'b stuff from people like Om Unit who has got really bad in recent years the footwork juke stuff just didn't work really and the newer half stepping stuff is just a bit all over the place and dull... dBridge and that Autonomic sound from a while back was better but fizzled out. Most of it is so tedius but I kinda like this one on Hotline.
King Midas Sound - Aroo
http://youtu.be/5jDAz0Lu31M
New noiseier shoegazy dub effort from King Midas Sound. Sounds pretty wicked. Kinda like the direction its goign in with this lot.
Loads of old Jam City for DL
http://www.factmag.com/2013/04/09/download-memories-of-how-it-used-to-be-a-20-track-set-of-unreleased-material-by-night-slugs-jam-city/
Hyped for this, he was so good back in 09-11. The album didn't live up to that potential for me so hyped to get these on the go since they're from that time.
There are some real gems on this
I'd grab it before the links die off if I was you.
DJ Rashad - I Don't Give A Fuck

Official vid by Ashes57 who is just dope in general.

the new Randomer EP is ace
http://www.factmag.com/2013/04/05/premiere-listen-to-randomers-latest-dispatch-of-brutal-dancefloor-killers/
these are fun
Randomer can be hit'n'miss but I dig these. There is nice ravey, fun, really heavy vibe going thru a lot of stuff at the moment which is a welcome return. Stuff from Tessela hits that spot n'all. Hackney Parrot and that remix of Alex Coulton just bang even if they are a bit derivitive of rave, jungle and whatever troups.
yeah
Unknown to the Unknown are releasing loads of great stupid fun stuff at the moment too, like that DJ Narrows track someone posted earlier
UTTU
are ace at that wish they did more wax but they're easily one of the most fun labels about.
Grenier - Voids Three

Nice teaser for the forthcoming album on Idle Hands. Its a wicked sunny raw fun grooving electro jam, doesn't sound like much else they've done really but suits them to a tea.
L.I.E.S. on twitter...
'Record Store Day can eat a dick. All these bullshit labels clogging the plants up slowing things for those who do it all year round. End it!'
https://twitter.com/LIES_News/status/322343551360974848
Good point really innit.
nah i think he's missing the point.
what are the record stores supposed to do, cancel it? it's not about the labels so much as it's about record stores.
from his point of view it fucks things up
cos he cant get his scheduled shit out I can see how that would be annoying when he's on such a roll with his 12"s selling out easily all the time.
Plus the shops I would want to save are specialist anyway and prob will get like one record from the record store day schedule if that.
new steve summers sounds superb:

Pev & Hodge - Bells (System mix / Dream Sequence)

Hodge has been making a real step up of late and Pev is Pev. This is well nice, pure vibes.
tune
Lo Shea - Prang
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1sW22uux6M
Nice raw bassy rolling funky breaky industrial wearhouse stripped back techno from Shefield.
Nubian Mindz - Many Poly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKGJdNIEV4E
Breakbeat funky bass hybrid. Kinda got that raw jungle breakbeat hosue vibe with a uk funky kinda bassline rollign with it. Not far off soemone like Altered Natives. I like it when breaks come into house and it doesn't sound to much like nu-skool breaks like the latest Swamp 81 stuff or Paleman or whatever they're all a bit boring. This is nice and leary though.
Legowelt - Elementz of Houz Music (Actress Mix 1)

well rounded records
will cease trading at the end of the year, as i'm sure many of you found out over the weekend via donga's post on fb etc. as a sort of tribute to one of my favourite imprints in recent years i put together a youtube playlist of what i reckon were their best bits. if you never followed this label i really recommend dipping into this; donga had such an ear for wicked artists that were often - and in some cases sadly still are - overlooked.
http://loosesynths.com/2013/04/playlist-best-of-well-rounded-records/
Its kinda sad to see them go
Liked a lot of the early stuff.
Deadboy: Brock Lee Riddim.
http://youtu.be/beu_-EpXgno
Deadboy: U Cheated.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=197TY1PvzNY&feature=share&list=PLnu_pPvQ6FiKoAYK4NQJL3KqDs-x3zPbp
Deadboy: Fireworks.
http://youtu.be/gX6w06KVMLM
CRST: Need You.
http://youtu.be/NOXQgguhyIk
Kidkut: Get Sum.
http://youtu.be/KHlx3Nklsdg
Outboxx: Blueberry Lemon.
http://youtu.be/gzmeh0nhNSU
Archie Pelago: Subway Gothic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbTFZW-YQXk
They where always one of those labels that had really good artsist but never really got their best tracks a lot of the time and spread themselves kinda thin as well. They looked to be on the up after a few years of less quality stuff though with stuff like Archie Pelago so its a bummer in that respect.
Soul Motive went this year too, they where a quality little label that launched some quality people like Well Rounded did. people like Joker, TRG, Julio Bashmore, Hyetal, Eleven Tigers all getting really early releases with them.
Its wicked they're gonna release stuff until the end of the year though
Forthcoming Hodge...
https://soundcloud.com/well-rounded-records/hodge-holographic-prose-ep
Holographic Prose is nice but Pressure is the one for me.
Desto remixing Geiom is pretty sweet too
https://soundcloud.com/well-rounded-records/wrnd017-geiom-feat-terrible
My favourite Well Rounded (other than Deadboy)
Hackman - Blacksnake:

Koreless - Sun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gpyCsCpH2Q
taken from the 'Yugen' EP.
This is epic
If those vocals didn't exist this would be well nice
it makes my brain itch when they kick in though.
I'm always suprised how much the first Koreless 12" goes for its like...
Last sold on Feb 21, 2013
£31.32 Average

£19.95 Lowest
on discogs.
Didn't know many people liked them, you never hear them played in sets.
There was a time around summer 2011 when MTI was EVERYWHERE
Great track though to be fair.
Yeah I quite like it
Came at a time when that cut up vocal thing was really starting to hurt my brain but still this track sounded good. Would of really killed if it existed in 09 same with this new one really. Dunno somat kinda dated about Koreless now. It's cool they stuck to their guns tho and kept on with the cut up vocals cos Deadboy has tryed to branch out and its kinda shit.
Ha yeah fair points
I really can't get on with that new Deadboy release.
Changes Harmonimix

!!!
Mala you legend
This might be the ultimate sell out of 12"s quicker than Joy Orbison combination. All the Mala heads out there buy his shit in seconds anyway and well its James Blake.
Just need Pev to unleash the Roll With The Punches Harmonimix

Gonna go ahead and predict Disclosure have secured their first Number 1 with this
https://soundcloud.com/disclosuremusic/you-me-soundcloud-edit
Fair play to them. Eliza Doolittle is a properly bizarre choice of vocalist but the chorus is great. Plus I'm a sucker for 2step.
really boring, imo. not even 'just good pop music'.
Got to laugh at the fact you can barely see the waveform due to the amount of comments.
So after being a wee bit of a sly dick about BRTHDTT

DjRum - Seven Lies
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLxbHOmxCDA
He's got an album out, I've not had chance to grab it yet but what I have heard is well nice. Kinda like an organic sounding Burial ir a trip-hop UK kinda version of something like Sepalcure. If you've heard the guys mixes you'll know how perfect he's suited to the album format, his mixes are like lost soundtracks to films.
SR review: http://www.sonicrouter.com/2013/04/recommended-djrum-seven-lies-2nd-drop/
I like this
including the cover.
Really nice innit
Pretty sure there is a Richard Skelton sample at the end of that track I linked. But yeah this is like some kinda up to date UK pirtate radio version of Endtroducing era DJ Shadow.
MMM - Que Barbaro

Looking forward to the new album, new Zomby is always welcome.
Plus in that vid he looks like the teenage fashion savy son of Kryten from Red Dwarf after his genes got spliced with The Cat.
whoops
i didn't read YOUR description fully. thought you were linking to soliloquy, which is SLAMMIN
Kode9 - Kan
https://soundcloud.com/hyperdub/kode9-kan/s-siyue
"It was originally called 'Can of Juice' as I sampled opening a can of Irn Bru, pouring it in a glass of ice, and hitting the glass with a fork."
:D
haha
yeah you can hear the pouring, fizz and ice. Other side Xingfu Lu is proper good: https://soundcloud.com/hyperdub/kode9-xingfu-lu
know its kinda old news
but i've been absolutely hooked on this today:
https://soundcloud.com/nickraymondg/hudson-mohawke-pleasure
can't even decide if its actually that good but im totally addicted. infectious stuff.
Numbers and them lot have got a festival named after that one
It may well be like now/this weekend. Anyone off?
Yeah HudMo does a fun bootleg did you hear his Ooops remix from 2008?

Ben UFO did a mix for the festival

http://pleasureprinciple.net/
pretty sure the song was done as promotion for the festival
but not completely sure.
haven't heard either of your links, i'll check em out for sure. cheers
Nah
His track came out in 2011 and it was knocking about for a while before that in his sets. He's got a close connection with the LuckyMe Glasgow peeps who are also good peeps with the Numbers lot, also from Glasgow, who are putting together this festival. This fest only came about this year, well its a re-up of an old fest a decade ago people like Aphex Twin and the Warp lot use to play at... But they more than likley named the whole fest after the track cos it rocks.
oh right
good stuff, i'd just assumed it was new cos it was put in the promo stuff i saw. if i didnt have final year of uni stuff going on i would have been very very tempted to go.
i really love hudson but only really have the studio stuff and more recent mixes that have surfaced in the last couple of years. any older stuff you can point me in the direction of?
...
LuckyMe mixes are the ones if you want more on that tip really: http://thisisluckyme.com/category/mixtapes/
thanks bud
got most of it by the looks of things, i'll certainly go through the luckyme mixes though.
i enjoyed this mix too. doesn't really fit in this thread, but whatevs:
https://soundcloud.com/nmbrs/public-information-safer-dancing-pleasure-principle
Public Information are ace
thats the kind of stuff that creeps into the dance mongrel threads on the sly, more than welocome. I'm always on about Ekoplekz who has had a EP on the label. He use to be Gutterbreakz a true blog legend back in the day: http://gutterbreakz.blogspot.co.uk/
they certainly are. love ekoplekz!
I wanna hear more of that longform John Carpenter ish he was putting out on mego under his own name
that was by far and away my favourite thing he's ever done

L-Vis 1990 - Ballads
Pretty great. Probably the best thing I've heard by him. Very Jam City which is a good thing of course.
http://boomkat.com/downloads/676434-l-vis-1990-ballads
Yeah this is cool
I think the thing about Jam City is that he's a well competent producer and good DJ but simply not that original. Ballad 4D is huge though.
My favourite thing from him since the Night Slugs EP on Dre$$ 2 Sweat ages ago
Easily. It does kidna sound like Jam City but then Night Slugs defo have a sound going on and this kinda sounds like a stripped back Bok Bok or Girl Unit or a less house MikeQ or whatever rather than a saight up Jam City rip, sounds like Night Slugs.
forthcoming tuff sherm EP on trilogy tapes
that old real shit >>> http://soundcloud.com/the-trilogy-tapes/tuff-sherm-burglar-loops
What should I go to on Saturday
John Talabot, Andres, Pinch and Kowton or Blawan, Pariah and Beneath.
Blawan, Pariah and Beneath.
without a doubt this ^^
beneath is fucking phenomenal
Andres was dead boring when I saw him
Pinch and Kowton would be killer though.
Blawan and Pariah bring the pyrotechnics live so probably them, Beneath's productions are ridiculous too.

The Sandwell District Fabric Mix is fucking beautiful btw
I mean that. Absolutely gorgeous to start with. Pure machine love.
It's really fucking good isn't it
Love the locked groove of the first ten tracks. The Mark Ernestus track is a bit of a clunker but other than that it's faultless.

also picked up Da Sampla - West Side Sessions (Kyle Hall + Shake)

and there's an unmarked red 7" as well which has been thrown in for free

its meant to be in there. Its ace. I still need to get the KMFH album, let us know how it sounds.
ah awesome
I should get round to buying it really but Frictionalism is on spotify so I've given it a few listens on there, yeah it's great, so much good stuff.

Pretty sure we've been after this lot since about 09 to do a mix for us.
Tectonic came to Paris last night
I've been waiting two years for that. Stayed there until the very end, first time i've done that in ages. Shackleton honestly mind blowing live, Pev brought some really heavy stuff to start out with and Pinch's first half hour was honestly the best dj set I can remember seeing. Recognised less than 50% of what he was playing, anyone got a recent mix or track list from him? Wanna know what he was smashing my skull in with last night. Appleblim til dawn was just the perfect revival set as well. Awesome all round, best night in a club I've had in ages.
Pinch plays a lot of dubs
so does Pev too really. But yeah it may have been new stuff thats gonna be on his new label Cold. He did a mix to set the tone of the label: http://coldrecordings.com/mixes/pinch-cold-mix/ There isn't a tracklist though. Shackleton live is so good no one does it like him.
Yeah it's shack and Villalobos up there next to each other
Cheers for the link will listen now. Still reeling a bit.
Yeah
Pinch had a chat about COld the other day too...
http://www.factmag.com/2013/04/24/i-need-the-dark-menacing-edginess-back-pinch-elaborates-on-the-reasons-behind-starting-his-new-label-cold-recordings/
Saying that the Cold stuff
is generaly a bit tougher and more techno and I'm more into that than the Swamp81/School stuff which is more housy. I dunno.
did you see this on his twitter? Made me lol a bit
"Note to self.. Not every tune you make has to be dark dark dark as fuck."
It was a real mix but the first half hour is what sticks in my head
Just hard heavy and ponderous sounding, so I reckon it could be that Cold stuff. He ended up playing what sounded like loads of trap and grime mixed into UKG and funky. amazing how trap just sounds exactly like grime instrumentals at times.
Trap stuff could be Decibel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN2Kdx2VzPM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjHXVlXSMa4
May have been grime guys making trap style beats there are few around now Darq E Freaker does it quiet a bit and yeah Decibel is a UK guy making trap-esq stuff at times. So they have that grimy dubstep edge to them.
Wot

Pangaea
Has a new kinda label for his own bits kinda like Pearson Sound does the odd 12" on his own. Its called Hadal first 12" here: http://www.factmag.com/2013/05/08/hessle-audios-pangaea-announces-new-label-hadal-and-single-series-stream-samples-of-the-first-12-inside/
Razz is a right laugh sounds like Pangaea doing a techy version of 90s hardcore or something. Rest are nice and tracky, not heard much on that tip from him.
Archie Pelago - Sly Gazabo
Is well nice maybe my favourite track they've done and it kinda sounds like a juke version of the IT Crown theme, who'd of thought...

Can only find a clip of it there for now.
Dark Sky - In Brackets [Mister Saturday Night]
The title track is the first thing on MSN that hasn't really done it for me, but I can't get enough of Rare Bloom on the b-side.

Grow Your Legs Last

Sounds better than the first I reckon. Excellent. Definitely owes a lot to Actress but that is in no way a bad thing.
