Parted company :-(
Their new album sounds more McGuire influenced that anything else they've done.
this announcement might seem positive. I am undecided now.
How the hell does that work, then?!
More precisely, given that McGuire's guitar sound largely defines Emeralds, how viable is the idea of Emeralds as a duo? Are they just going to have tape recordings of McGuire's parts live? Are they going to go on and record as a synth duo? It'll be like a dog without its back legs.
Just get them put down.
I can't imagine that Mark McGuire left to focus more on his solo stuff as being in Emeralds has allowed him ample time to do that on anyway. I think it's probably more that Steve Hauschildt and the other one whose name I can't remember probably wanted to do more Emeralds stuff immediately whereas Mark McGuire probably wants to collaborate and do more solo stuff.
The last two Mark McGuire releases were very synth heavy though, so maybe he just thinks he can do the Emeralds sound on his own now.
especially as both proper Mark McGuire albums were pretty average (though A Young Persons Guide was amazing). Sigh.
Living With Yourself is a wonderful album.
but most of the tracks are too short and the closing track is too bombastic, in my opinion. it doesn't even come close to the Young Person's Guide stuff
