Had a hit with Black Heart, which was quite different in tone to the early stuff. As a result, the album was pushed back in order to record more stuff in the vein of Black Heart. New release date and tracklist were announced, although the tracklist would keep changing on a monthly basis (with more and more of the early songs being either dropped off or relegated as bonus tracks). They released a cover version of TLC's Waterfalls which flopped pretty badly, resulting in another album delay announcement only a couple of days before the album was supposed to be in stores. As an insult to injury, the announcement was so close to the release date that a few major digital webstores actually put the album on sale for a fairly long while on the original release date.
The result is such a confusing mess of release hell and kneejerk reactions that not even Stooshe themselves seem to have any idea what the label's actually planning.

Dot Rotten has been a well known grime producer for years.
Flux Pavilion is pretty big as well if you like commercial dubstep.

None of those bands are anything like...
... As special as they're hyped up to be. Savages are pretty intense live and I like their aesthetic, but the recorded stuff doesn't cut it for me. I've only heard one Peace song (can't remember the name) and I did quite enjoy it, but it wasn't revolutionary or anything... They just sound like a slightly more '90s Mystery Jets.
Palma Violets are OK, I liked the B- Side "Last of the Summer Wine" more than "Best of Friends," but yeah, they aren't anything amazing either. Give up on new music?
Savages are horribly derivative (Siouxsie fronting the early Bunnymen anyone?)
But at least there is a bit of verve and tension to what they are doing. I'm sick of English indie guitar bands sounding all wry and quirky.

Also Haim (great), Theme Park (shite), The Child of Lov (promising) and Money (lots of potential, if they drop all the pseudo-intellectualism. They come across like a non-tongue-in-cheek Wu Lyf)
King Krule is genuinely excellent
I always worry about this lists, but I think he would actually do good with the dubious accolade of winning.

New Peaks is basically Go by Moby innit
I had to check it out
not being conversant with a lot of Moby stuff. Slight ressemblance I admit, but New Peaks is a lot more subtle and the feel from the whole song is totally different.
They've got a sligth witchy sound, great atmospherics. They remind me of Purity Ring for that matter. I also love the singer's voice.

Be stunned if they made the Sound of poll, they're far too good for that sort of popularity contest.
This is a typical Next Big Thing moan
But for me what sets new artists apart is an ability to maintain a high level of songwriting, originality and variation across a whole album. A couple of years ago I went overboard with picking emerging artists with interesting sounds, but the majority have disappointed. A list of upcoming sophomore albums (from artists with good debuts) would be of greater use.

I don't like Haim (mostly as they don't really have more than half a 'song'). They seemed destined to be next year's Friends i.e. a band for people who buy all their music from Urban Outfitters so they can hang it on their wall.

Only including the non-terrible stuff. A couple of thoughts:
1. In the grand tradition of genres bubbling under before breaking to the surface, I wonder if 2013 is going to be the year that all this Pitchfork-approved post-RnB stuff is going to be more of a Radio 1 staple - things like AlunaGeorge, How To Dress Well, Autre Ne Veut, Inc., Jhameel, etc - or whether it's destined to be kinda niche.
2. Going through all these acts, what strikes me is the almost total lack of indie pop bands, let alone any decent ones. It's all trendy/cutesy synth stuff, WHICH IS FINE OBVS, but I pigged out on that in 2012 and I'm going to throw up from all the sugariness if I have to face another year of it. I know I moaned about this in another thread but I'd kill for a new, intelligent but fun and awesome indie band like British Sea Power or Wild Beasts or something. Or even a Johnny Foreigner...

I've been through pretty much every name in this thread and, with the exception of Haim (the Fleetwood Mac throwback), none of it sounds very exciting at all :(

I was sick of that in 2011 nevermind this year..stuff like the Purity Ring album just seemed really old hat i thought, sounded like some of the stuff which rode Witch House's coattails in 2010. Don't want MORE of that, that's why I can't be bothered with Chvrches etc.
And that R&B thing is fast becoming an indie cliche. Whether or not it breaks through to the mainstream, I reckon in Pitchforky indie circles it's gonna quickly die a death.

I liked Eaux in previous posts and I do (sweet synth things etc .) but I do feel like both of you in that respect - I'm sure the backlash already started!
There will be bands under the radar with grittier, indier stuff than that in the pipeline - already Toy and Tall Ships last year spring to mind, more will come surely.

I have now listened to that Palma Violets track for the first time, although as much as anything this tells me that I need to put the radio on more. They have a pulse, which is an improvement on some things that NME has championed in recent years but... I struggle to find it that exciting. Give me the new Dutch Uncles single anyday.
I'm an old bastard mind, so discount my opinion. :)
A few things I have noticed so far while listening to each of the bands.
These things are very much about the actual sound of the artists, rather than the songs. Especially in terms of the indie bands on the list. Out of every artist on the list that I have now listened to, it appears only three can actually write songs (Haim, Chvrches and Arlissa). A.M.E is pop without the hooks. Alunageorge are appropriating "hip" post dubstep but again, to a stiflingly dull level. Angel Haze is a decent enough sounding rapper, but fairly generic all the same and lacking any real quality that makes her stand out. King Krule is awful, meandering garage rock with terrible vocals. Kodaline are trying to be Coldplay, but seem to forget that the only reason Coldplay are great is the huge sweeping choruses, which they ultimately lack and are therefore dull as fuck. Laura Mvula I guess just isn't my type of thing, seems monstrously dull to me. Little Green Cars manage to be worse at what they do than Bumfords. Palma Violets are touted as mainstream indie guitar heroes, but can't write a decent mainstream guitar song, so end up as a strangely meandering noisy dull mess, possibly the worst of all these acts. Peace once again focus more on trying to sound like foals etc than actually coming up with any kind of hooks. Savages at least know that there is actually such a thing called guitar distortioon, but manage to render themselves completely dull, merely emulating thousands of other shouty female post punk acts without a discernible hook (once again). The Weeknd I have heard before, but it really isn't my thing, the songs amble along without any real sense of purpose (in my opinion, I know his stuff is well loved around these parts, I just don't really "get" it). Tom Odell is seemingly a singer songwriter in the mould of whoever else has released a schmaltzy piano ballad in the last decade or so, and admittedly the song on the bbc website is kind of inoffensively listenable, but its a sad day when I'm giving this kind of thing praise over most the other acts.
As far as the three that I mentioned that I actually like go, Arlissa's duet with Nas is very well written and could go on to become a classic pop song. Chvrches do big, hooky synthpop which is pretty great, and while I've only heard one Haim song, it seems quite pleasant really.
So yeah, basically, either all new-ish music will be dull and shite over the next year, or the bbc has clearly chosen the wrong acts. I'm thinking probably both.

except King Krule. I wouldn't describe him as garage rock at all. Listen to a few more songs and see what you would describe him as.
I know a few people though who can't deal with his voice though, so if that's your reasoning then cool.

it isn't the BBC who chooses the list, it's 200 journos (including DiS' Wendy Roby... I wasn't eligible to vote now that I run a label again) plus tv and radio people - most of whom work at the BBC.

but, like I said further up the thread, the problem with lauding emerging artists is that songwriting rarely comes into it. The truest way of appraising songwriting skills would be to look at a full album, though hardly any Sound Of acts have released more than an EP.
