Well, I'm not overly enamoured with the 'new' iTunes.
Pain in the arse so far.
Suspect I'll get used to it in time but it's taking me ages just to work out how to do very simple things.

I gave up on iTunes years ago
Bloated, needy bastard. Has it lost weight in its new incarnation?
supposedly, one of the main things they're trumpeting about this version
dont understand why they seem to be phasing out cover flow, youd think it would be one of their trademark things, not even on ipads, seems to only exist on iphone/pods now.
I really like it.
You can has it the old way too if you prefer. Just hit 'view' then 'show side bar' and you are set.
The grid view with the background key color matching the album art is A+
The background thing is incredible.
The tracks are even shown in the second 'key' colour of the artwork! The new Action Bronson tape looks fucking great.
what background thing?
i don't understand.....
similarly, I don't get what this is
guys?
actually maybe I get it now
how d'you do grid view?
Just tried to install it out of curiousity
And it's failing every time.
Woo.
Well it wouldn't work with my iPod,
which has forced me to sync it and that will mean that all the playlists and subtle changes I've made certain track listings on my iPod is no utterly wrecked.
I've gone from being slightly frustrated with this crap to being absolutely fucked off with it now.
for once, I was glad I actually watched their little tutorial video
I usually skip those but the interface changes were extreme enough that I would have been pretty lost without it.
It does seem to be doing strange things to my iPod Shuffle, but so far I think I'm in favor of the overall upgrade as it puts a lot of features next to each other where I wished they were before. We'll see. I'm sure it's not for everybody.
only just updated it but I think it looks great
but then I've been using grid view for months now
Slightly better looking than before
Which is not saying much because it was the ugliest interface in the world before.
Seems slow and awkward, especially on a PC.
dling now
200MB. Why does every little update for iTunes (admittedly this is a not an incremental release but still) have to be enormous?
I kinda just use Spotify for EVERYTHING now.
Unless this new iTunes is incredibly quick and smooth can't think why i'd bother with it.
It's not
I thingmied it last night.
It's pretty neat. Like the expanding view in albums and the new wee arrow on songs that you can click. Shortcuts to artists and the Add to playlist bit is pretty special too. Quite impressed.
I like that
you can queue up 'next song' in shuffle, and make a list of next songs - since all I seem to do at the moment is listen on shuffle this is a pretty cool update.
i think it looks great
much cleaner, and a better interface. Dragging stuff around onto devices and playlists is MUCH easier and doesn't require carefully scrolling off-screen all the time.
Oh wow, I've only just worked out there's a playlist facility now
THIS IS THE BEST
AND it now sorts albums by artist/year on grid view
best best best
you'd have to pay me to use it, bro.
just stick the indie points onto my account whenever it's convenient for ya, ta.
What do you use?
Hm.
I normally avoid updating iTunes unless I have to for a new device/service. I'd probably still be using iTunes 4, if it weren't the fact that an iPod update way back when forced me to upgrade to iTunes 6 — and, jesus, wasn't that a fucking mess!
Wish you could take a proper look at new versions without having to install them and risk not being able to uninstall them without fucking up your libraries, preferences, etc.
I like it a lot
only grip is they've removed the 'recently added' function. Love how they seem to have really rebuilt and rethought it.
Yes, but isn't "recently added" simply a smart playlist??
If so you can just create your own. Should work the same.
^this
just create a smart playlist. you can even change how recent it has to be!
(smart playlists are amazing. I have ones for decades and certain labels)
I have one for stuff I haven't listened to yet
FUCKSAKE
Recently added is the only way I can find things I've downloaded.
as said, it's a smart playlist
also, sort by "recently added"
Man, you've totally turned into one of 'them' since you got your Mac.
;-)
ikr
still, I /genuinely/ like this new version. it's more and more so how i wanted the old version to be.
I'll probably download it to check it out later.
I only use it to put things on our iPad. I can't imagine there's that much changed really.
Well if you didn't like the old version I can't imagine you'll like this one
but I was fine with the old version
Recently added is still there
Just click view sidebar.
I don't understand
How apple can make so many fucking brilliant things... and iTunes.
Isn't the truth that for some years they've been making great hardware and crappy software?
Tried Foobar for the first time a few months ago
and haven't looked back. So simple and quick. Only problem is it doesn't (to my knowledge) have a podcast manager, but I just use one on my phone now instead.
Same here
Just bloody works. No faff, ultimately customisable. You can probably get a podcast manager for it somewhere.
Yeah I just found one as an extension/component
but it's not quite as user-friendly as iTunes, MusicBee etc. The program itself is great though, it even loads up quick on my ageing laptop.
really love the redesign
and i love the way you can 'queue' tracks, it seems bizarre it's taken them so long to integrate that idea. the little album art/playlist thing when an album is playing is really nice.
BUT THERE'S A PROBLEM
they've removed grid view for artist view? why? they kept it for the album view and it looks great. is that sidebar supposed to be the replacement? that doesn't work when you've got months of music.
I hate it
As iTunes is the only Apple product that many Windows users will ever encounter, I'm amazed they don't do a better job of it.
Actually
After lengthy buggering about, I've managed to find all the stuff I thought they'd taken out - you have to play around with your preferences to restore the old familiar look/features. Which begs the question, why?
I had to use Winamp for the past year as
itunes would make my laptop use 99% of it's CPU for some bizarre reason, Winamp uses 2%. I hope this has fixed that. I want itunes back.
itunes does totally drain the cpu
it slows my laptop right down and makes trying to run anything more complex than Word a stuttering chore. I do resent it for that. Tend to use winamp if I want to do anything else while listening to music.
itunes is the worst program of all time
hands down
i use a lot worse daily at work
:(
How do I make the grid smaller pls?
is there any way to stop the useless fucking fuck itunes from "accessing itunes store" as soon as you open itunes
and taking like FIVE FUCKING MINUTES, and then when you tell it to stop it takes ANOTHER FIVE FUCKING MINUTES to stop? i just want to play some fucking songs.
Dunno about the new version
But the old version would always open on the library for me, so long as I didn't quit while in the store.
Keep it open?
I wanna see how many times I've played tracks without having to dig around in the right-click menu
How pls
Also can we srsly not reduce the size of the grid?
Also the search bar is incredibly slow
Can you turn off the live drop-down search thing?
yeah, definitely deciding the cool redesign isn't worth all the little irritations
why are the people who do itunes so bad at making it functional?
i ask this in every itunes thread and never get a reply, but does anyone know of any good mac alternatives? never found one.
Also it's lost the artwork for a load of albums.
Great.
Oh okay and now apparently I can't sync my iPod
Nothing happens when I connect it.
This is pretty annoying.
you have to fiddle about with it
there's a button you press that's like `sync ipod` or something
it's really good
It's absolutely appalling.
Slowest piece of muthafucking shit i have ever encountered. Love the fact that it no longer copies new purchases too. In fact, if you want to have your new purchases on itunes, you have to use the sidebar (old version?!!) and then proceed to do it manually. Not only that, but it randomly lost the connection with my iPad and iPhone. Fucking rubbish.
Version 11.0 is horrible!
They fixed something that wasn't broken and in the process they ruined it..coverflow is missing, shuffle now only works if you make a playlist, scrolling through the albums a nightmare, ergonomics wich were great are now of 1980's eastern block quality...no...this is not a very nice upgrade..it's about as usefull as myspace's overhaul, wich killed myspace in the progress!
it seems to have broken my iphones usb tethering, pretty frustrating as I rely on that as my home wifi is so unreliable, can use the phones wifi tethering but that is really slow
does anyone know what the clouds by the music, tv and movies libraries mean? hope its not backing up everything on cloud
no, because they charge for that
there's an option somewhere that lets you choose whether to display stuff you have cloud stored or not, i assume it's related to that
BUT WHY DID THEY KILL COVER-FLOW?
IT WAS THE ONLY AESTHETICALLY-GOOD BIT.
*TEARS OF 1'S AND O'S*
