I can't work it out, is he tune-dead or not? It may be his accent and his drunkenness that makes him sound like he can't sing.

There are those who can't hold a note and those whos voice people don't like. The don't like can go on forever. I personally think Celine Dion is a horrible singer but I know she is technically very good. All that straining and overcooked emotion is awful. But those who can't hold a note too well. John Lydon and Lou Reed come to mind but love em both. Bob Dylan can hold a note but in his own unique way. X-factor has turned people into judges of singing technique and often they don't know what they're talking about.

can't do what Celine Dion does. But Celine Dion can't do what David Gedge does either. There's no such thing as "bad" singing, there's just singing that you don't like, or which is inappropriate for the material being performed.

every live performance I've ever seen footage of he has really struggled with the vocal range, however limited, in basically every song. Awful singer.
