Destroyer - anyone seeing him this week?
I'm seeing him in Manchester on Friday night, looking forward to it although reviews of him live are mixed. Anybody seen him live, should I just expect to watch him get massively lashed on stage and just enjoy his band?

thinking about it
sound control has grown on me
He's great live
Don’t expect any chat. Do expect him to drink many, many drinks.
He has a strange, unnatural stage presence but somehow it’s very alluring. Wish I was seeing him again now actually.
Yeah ^ this
tempted to grab a last minute ticket. Loved his set at Green Man last year.
Totally agree about his stage presence
Captivating
They were amazing when I saw them this summer. Opened with European Oils and closed with Rubies and the middle was all the best bits from Kaputt. Had a massive shit eating grin from the HER FATHER.... THE FUCKING MANIAC bit for about 5 hours afterwards
Seeing him tomorrow
Seen him twice before - last year at Heaven and this year at Latitude. Great both times.
I think the 'mixed' reception you've heard may depend on which point in his career people saw him. His pre-Kaputt shows seemed a lot more shambolic/hit and miss. He's admitted he doesn't really like performing live and isn't a natural 'showman'. The band he performs with now are really tight though, and there will likely be some cool reworkings of older songs.
So good at Latitude
Entire set was so much better than I was expecting, and "Rubies" was one of my live highlights of the year.
Thanks all...
I'm getting excited about this now. I'm going with the missus, she's not a big fan, hopefully the live experience will change that (for some reason thought she was going to see Chairlift!). I also read in an interview that this will be his last tour for a couple of years.
I'm seeing him/them in London tomorrow night.
Really looking forward to it.
I'll be the guy handing out flyers for Sunday's Glissando and March's Loscil gigs afterwards.
I quickly scanned the forum but didn't spot this.
If I see you there, I'll buy you a pint.
can't fucking wait for that Loscil gig like
ps - have you been to the village before?
I want it tp be pretty roomy, but somehow I just cant see it. It sounds a bit night clubby?
It's Village Underground,
the place with the old tube trains on the roof.
It's a bit like a bigger, less bar-like, Cargo.
If I spot you, I'll say hello (and buy you a pint).
Ah right, I know the place. Near Old Blue Last.
Who's the support?
i'm going by myself, so dunno if i can be bothered to stand around for the support or just turn up for Destroyer..

oh, i listened to their album a few months ago, thought it was pretty average
i'd still like to see them though
Didn't think they were too bad.
They probably used a bit too much chorus pedal.
oh man
didnt know about this. Want to go to it.
echoing the above, he was incredible at latitude
All the above is true
It's not spectacular.
Dan's strangely compelling, regardless.
It feels as if you're seeing something you'll tell the next generation.
Well, that was pretty awesome, wasn't it?
Certainly was.
Yup
Indeed
Yes.
as if I can't look forward to this more...
how long can I expect them to play for and just how blooming awesome?
quick destroyer question:
is he now famouser than the new pornos?
I'd say no
Last New Pornographers album went to the US top 20, not sure if Destroyer charted at all.
well i never
Did anyone buy any merch?
I bought a t shirt and street hawk cd
I went alone last night
Did not want to miss this show and it did not let me down. Agree he has a uniquely captivating stage presence. I got a t-shirt.
what kind of sets he playing?
The London one
was a bit shorter than last year's. No Bay of Pigs sadly. But a fair whack of Rubies - title track, European Oils, Looters Follies.
Did he play Song for America in London?
Setlist.fm says he does, but I have absolutely no recollection of seeing him play it. Losing it.
Also he did Bay of Pigs in Dublin! Grrrrr
Yeah pretty sure he didn't
He did Hey, Snow White though, and that's not on the list
Looks like Dublin got the Music Lovers too!
Saw Bay of Pigs at the previous London show so not too fussed.
Just found a pretty cool full performance vid from earlier this year:

he did "bay of pigs"
Last night too. Great gig, had a pissed chat with him, nice chap.
