records from earlier in the year that you have revisited
and either lost the thrill or found a deeper enjoyment.
I'm listening to 'Swing Lo Magellan' for the first time since two weeks after release and it's seriously hitting the spot (like Gatoraaade. haha).
I mean I am really feeling it now, on a level beyond the initial abstract pleasure.
great. go on then.

Relistened to a bunch of records I originally had down as 8/10s recently
I think Matthew Dear's 'Beams' might be a bit better than I first thought. I think PiL's latest might be a bit worse than I first thought.
Still really, really don't get all the fuss about Channel Orange myself and find Death Grips a total 7/10 with some 9/10 songs on it.
That Frank Ocean review is exactly how I feel.
Death Grips too, actually.
Beams
Is a fantastic lp , anyone that wasn't sure should go back,,it deserves to be heard.
impulse purchase after hearing it in fopp
Totally agree, in my top 5 for sure...
bump
Chromatics
Listened to it a fair bit when it came out, knew it was a great album but in practice could never get beyond the first run of 'singles'. Now, as the nights get longer and colder, I've listened to the whole thing in a single listen a couple of times now, and it's incredible. Especially on late-night train journeys. Still think there's a little lull in the middle, and it could do with a little trimming, but I've come to accept the pop songs and the more ambient bits as part of the same great package. Potential AOTY for me.
Errors and Blood Red Shoes
are still both blinking amazing.
^this for BRS
I deliberately avoided hearing anything other than the two singles they released so that I could sit down with headphones and give the whole thing a proper listen. Totally paid off. Frankly, tracks like 'Two Dead Minutes' and '7 Years' have only gotten better as I've had the chance to listen to them in different settings.
Screaming Females - Ugly
even better than i remembered (and i remembered it being great)
ScHoolBoy Q - Habits & Contradictions
Shouldn't be forgotten amidst all the Kendrick buzz. Really excellent record.
I liked this a lot at first
and still like it, but have cooled on it quite a bit. I think the Ab-Soul record is actually better.
don't really rate the Ab Soul that much
it has a lot of great tracks, yeah, but a few that are just okay, and a handful that really annoy me because of generic samples.
actually, his lyrics annoy me a fair bit. seems to think he's a lot smarter than he actually is.
whereas the Schoolboy Q one really does it for me.
*the Ab-Soul one
I probably need to focus more on both again tbf.
I listened to the AB Soul one yesterday a little so my mind was fresh on it. Havent really listened to anything much outside of the KL and some old music recently. Kinda losing steam on caring about new music outside of my wheelhouse over the last couple of years.
I lose steam sometimes
a lot of the time I'm just not receptive because I'm feeling stressful or depressed.
some really good tunes on 'Control System', don't get me wrong. listening atm... 'Terrorist Threats' for one. although 'Pineal Gland' straight after using the same sample as 'Stress Rap' dulls my enthusiasm a bit.
I just find AS easier to listen to over extended stretches
of time whereas SQ kinda grates more quickly these days.
but Kendrick's is just right
definitely a modern classic in time.
Its leaning that way
but ask me again in 5-10 years :)
Black Hippy
I think in fairness, the new Kendrick Lamar album is the best thing to come out of this camp. Lots of love for Section.80 too. I think Schoolboy Q is capable of releasing some outright bangers ('Druggys Wit Hoes Again') but difficult to sustain over a full album. Setbacks is a bit lame. Don't really care for Ab-Soul much, not heard Jay Rock.
O yeah, the new KL on top for sure.
No question.
I rate Jay Rocks album quite high, actually. Maybe my 2nd or 3rd fav release of Black Hippy.
I can imagine now being a better time to listen to 'R. I. P' by Actress
idk
I prefer Actress in summer. but I do feel like I ought to revisit that one.
what happened to'Ghettoville'?
its been in the works a while
was mentioned even before RIP I think, it'll turn up. Wouldn't hold your breath for this year tho. 2 albums in a year might be a stretch. Unless it pops out at the last minuet like Shackleton & Pinch did last year. Can't see Actress oing for two high-ish profile albums in one go.
Hopefuly we dont have to file it alongside the eski album from Zomby... haha
RIP is way colder than Splazsh so I'd be inclinded to spin it more now too I reckon.
ah fair enough
I reckon it'll be more the kind of Actress I prefer. RIP...idk. initially, it felt a bit barren, and not in the way that would be enhanced by the cold. but maybe that doesn't matter and it'll just sound better because it's familiar now.
it'll be out in 2013 with Hazyville
Ghettoville will be out in 2013, as a double album with Hazyville. Werkdiscs said this when they issued a press release about their partnership with Ninja Tune.
oh, and my revisited album is...
The Revenant Diary by Mark Van Hoen. Out right at the start of the year on Mego but kind of overlooked - I think because the digital came out a month early, just before Christmas. Physical formats came out in January though. a warm, gorgeous, understated album.
remember that Grimes album?
still love that Grimes album
another candidate for the strong opening trio thread...
I wonder if I give it another listen
I might not get bored after the best two tracks at the start.
I'm also trying the Julia Holter record again and it's still just so beige compared to her previous.
grimes has enough diversity for me to sustain interest throughout
But I've struggled with Julia Holter, much as I love the opening track. What's Tragedy like in comparison? (I heard some people say it's droney, and I'm a big drone fan)
song*
be fair
she had 2
Still playing....
Black Twig- Paper Trees
Great album!!
I listen to DJ a lot
and my ears perk up when Lana comes on. Seriously, moving her into me Top 10.
Jesca Hoop - The House The Jack Built
a far stronger album then I originally gave it credit for, though it does sound a tad processed at times.
Future Of The Left - The Plot Against Common Sense
Their recent addition to ATP has re-ignitited my interest in this album.
Fang Island - Major
It's hard to compare it to the debut, because the more I listen to that, the more I think it's actually the best rock record of the century so far.
BUT Major is still a really good record. I'd kinda forgotten about it, but re-listens suggest it'll still be in my top 10 anyway.
Sweet heart sweet light
Is worthy of re evaluation, especially after the nonsensical review it had here on DIS.
This
Seeing them play the whole album through the other week was the moment for me, as it usually is. Difficult for me to rank Spiritualized albums as I think there's little between them, but I think it's right up there with some of their best. Wish the vocals weren't so high in the mix though.
absolutely
I left Warwick arts last Sunday having enjoyed hearing that album live and liking some of the tracks a whole lot more...Get what you deserve for example.
But i also left thinking that whilst i enjoyed seeing him do LAGWFIS at atp a couple of years back, id actually love to see a Lazer Guided Melodies show, take your time and Smiles sounded incredable last week
I gave El-P's Cancer For Cure a 6/10 earlier this year, but I've revisited it recently and it's actually rather bloody brilliant in places. I was equally unimpressed with Field Music's Plumb when I reviewed it, but again I revisited it recently and it's wonderful.
so at the end of the year
Could we see a piece on dis of re-evaluated album reviews?
