Recent Post-Hardcore albums
So, y'know, ATDI toured for some cash money this year and aren't releasing an album which sucks. But what good Post-Hardcore albums have come out this year? I've basically missed them all.
I quite enjoyed emo-y post-hardcore stuff like The Wonder Years last year. That stuff is cool too.

Gwen Stefani
I think the new-ish Jogging album is great
http://jogging.bandcamp.com/album/take-courage
I'd love to hear recommendations of bands from the USA or UK in a similar vein.
There was also the re-issue of the Moss Icon discography if that counts as 'recent'.
http://www.thefader.com/2012/05/07/stream-moss-icons-discography/
Jogging is a good shout, their first lp was ace
Hard these days cus im not sure what's counted as post hardcore or not. I think Crash Of Rhinos are post hardcore as they remind me of Appleseed Cast at times (wiki says they are post rock but they weren't when they started). Pilot To Gunner have another album coming out soon on Arctic Rodeo, if you don't know them they made two awesome albums. Also Casket Lottery have put together a 7-inch this year as well. :)
Pilot to Gunner eh?
I've not thought about them in years. Get Saved was a great album, although I thought it suffered a bit from sounding a little bit too polished. What's their other album like?
The new album is on Spotify! Wowser, just found it
Yeah i thought Get Saved was a bit too polished, if you havent heard "Games At High Speeds" that was superb. I believe J Robbins did get Saved too which is weird.
Crash of Rhinos album
is immense. Really enjoying this stuff. Reminds me a lot of Meet Me in St. Louis, but less the riffs are more consistently heavy, where as MMISL tended to insert sparser, math riffs quite often.
What a pretentious thing to say.
Jogging are excellent.
They're lablemates with this lot: http://tenpastseven.bandcamp.com/album/shut-up-your-face
Don't know if this exactly fits the bill but it's great

Avalanche United by I Am the Avalanche
is good it you haven't heard that yet. Came out early this year.
was gonna post this
I love this album
Are I Am The Avalanche good now?
I remember them being pretty weak. Especially in comparison to The Movielife.
I don't know the first album but I have heard people say it's a bit weak
Avalanche United is really good though,
Yeah
I thought the first album was completely bollocks too. Will give this a listen.
Hold Your Horse Is - Frimley
http://holdyourhorseis.bandcamp.com/album/frimley-lp
and this new EP by Samoans http://samoanstheband.bandcamp.com/
Quality stuff this.
Heard a single or two by them before and was impressed. This is a good LP.
JAG/loose definition of p-hXc
but here's my band's album from August. it's loud, fast music that sometimes isn't in the same time signature, so arguably what you're after (especially the opening track):
http://herparents.bandcamp.com
I've seen you guys twice now. which one are you?
Best

Retisonic (ex Bluetip) put a second album out this year
Which is absolutely killer, forgot about that one. Well worth hearing.

thanks for checking it out if you do!
I'm really liking this dude.
Well done!
this is fucking great
just want to say again how good this shit is
here's the link you fucked up, i'm sure loads of people couldn't be assed to copy and paste

Gnarwolves
...probably more 'punk' if we're getting all mired in the genre swamp but bloody rad all the same:
http://gnarwolves.bandcamp.com/
The Wooderson record that came out a few months ago is pretty much a sweet-ass Fugazi homage:
http://wooderson.bandcamp.com/
'Riala' by Suis La Lune is probably the best screamy thing I've heard this year (some of 'em are also in the hazier, more emo-friendly Sore Eyelids):
http://topshelfrecords.bandcamp.com/album/riala
http://soreeyelids.bandcamp.com/album/sore-eyelids
And the Blacklisters record kicks like a hacked-off mule, great if you're feeling a bit obtuse/on a Jesus Lizard flex.
http://brew.bandcamp.com/album/blacklisters-blklstrs
I love these threads.
Oh and
'Ten Stories' by mewithoutYou. A welcome return to that facet of their sound.
^This
a wonderful album
^5
Probably my favourite album of this year.
It's definitely in somewhere in the shortlist
Whoops
That first 'in' shouldn't be there should it? Silly me.
I think there was already a thread about it
but that title fight record really is worth hearing, still streaming from here too:
http://www.spin.com/articles/title-fight-floral-green-exclusive-stream
yes, that^
I'm not that convinced by it (or them) yet
Got 'Shed' last year and thought it was pretty good, I just think they're generally outclassed by Polar Bear Club, The Wonder Years, Grown Ups, Into It. Over It., The Story So Far etc. Only heard 'Floral Green' a couple of times and it's nice that they've stuffed a whole bunch of Sonic Youth/Trail of Dead in there, just struggling to find anything to really love about it.
Probably better than this year's Make Do and Mend record though, which genuinely upset me.
that's interesting
I think these guys are by far the most interesting of the bunch, but then maybe its because of the SY influence.
Seahaven and Balance and Composure are great too
Getting onto Title Fight now.
Finding myself listening to a lot of bands like Polar Bear Club, Transit, Wonder Years and the Story So Far. The Story So Far are pretty awesome, saw some live videos and they really instill a punk attitude (the drums contribute to this in a big way too) but their vocalist is so raw for a young guy and there are some melodic shifts you don't quite get in punk.
Got into all those sort of bands because they all seem influenced by Brand New (one of my favourite bands) to a strong degree, right?
And below, Balance and Composure are absolutely immense too. Must check out Seaheaven.
You liked Transit?
I think the first 30 seconds of 'You Can't Miss It' is immense, and then he starts singing and the whole record becomes a drippy, sugary mess. That whole 'I'm nothing special really' bit is enough to make the most hardened (softened?) emo fan blow chunks. It's a shame, because the instrumentation is pretty rad throughout, and they know their way around a massive hook. Pretty much exactly the same thoughts about Balance and Composure, I think it's something to do with the way they both pronounce '-tion'. Like 'Shawn'.
Found myself listening to them more than liking them a whole pile.
The instrumentation is nice which draws my attention but, yeah, those lyrics grate.
That's true about the vocalist in Balance and Composure. It's most clear in the title track; separation, conversation, passion all get the treatment in the chorus. That song really typifies their direction and the tightness of the instrumentation. Christ, I Tore You Apart In My Head is the just a quality, angsty track too.
Is there a different band called The Wonder Years?
I thought they were a pop punk band.
yeah they are
...and also completely rad
I listened to them once, wasn't my cup of tea.
I was just confused as to why they were being brought up in a thread about post hardcore bands.
My reasoning
Title Fight/Polar Bear Club were both brought up. They occupy the (very fucking vague) post-hc realm, and also the (only slightly less vague) pop-punk one. Wonder Years mentioned in association with the latter, rather than the former. Apologies.
If you could go through the thread and outline anywhere else we got it wrong, I'd appreciate it.
Bit snippy.
Yeah
Sorry, I was at work and in a bit of a mood...
If we're JAG-ing then
Without Maps - http://soundcloud.com/clubkissability/without-maps-naked-light
Feel free, by the way, to send us a message if you're after a show in Nottingham.
(we've already put on
Samoans and Wooderson, we've hopefully got Jogging coming up next month and then I guess we're going to have to start working our way through the rest of the thread!)
we'd like a gig!
but won't be offended if you think we suck
Also - State Faults
Their record "Desolate Peaks" came out this year and it's INCREDIBLE. They mix post-hardcore up with screamo and post-rock I guess, but in 2-3 minute songs that get to the meat & potatoes really quickly. The vocals are fucking forlorn. You can pretty much hear his throat breaking. Hooray!
Oh yeah
This is lovely. You're right, the poor guy sounds like he's trying to hurl his heart up through his oesophagus. These might be of interest too then:

http://ravachol.bandcamp.com/
http://dogknightsproductions.bandcamp.com/album/dk029-we-came-out-like-tigers-agelessness-and-lack-12-lp
Flying the flag high for Brit screamo. Thanks again for State Faults, this is fucking sweet!
Ravachol and WCOLT are good friends of ours
Shame the former broke up. I'd love to get Veils/Vales up to Nottingham sometime too.
I know right
and they were supposed to be supporting Raein in January (with Crash of Rhinos and Goodtime Boys, the latter another fantastic lot that haven't been mentioned in this thread yet.)
Veils are absolutely ferocious live. Not having a functioning bass didn't dampen them a bit last time I saw them. Chlo is terrifying.
Yeah I have a ticket for that.
At the Old Blue Last. S'going to be great; I've never seen Goodtime Boys but I keep wanting to.
Also I REALLY want to see Vales live after that description.

It's 1993 all over again in New Zealand.
hail brethren
What is "post-hardcore"?
The name implies that hardcore no longer exists....does that make KISS "pre-hardcore" or something?
wat
I was with you til you mentioned KISS
Drug Church
more Quicksand-influenced stuff:

Still on the look-out...
Have come across two crackers of late; letlive.- Fake History and Touche Amore- Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me.
Not sure I'd quite call them 'post hardcore' myself
But that band BATS that I'm ALWAYS going on about are properly great and I've seen the new one tagged under this moniker.
Regardless, see if they're for you?
I love BATS, man.
Have yet to lay me mits on the new album. But it's on Spotify, so here goes!
ISN'T IT A PITY ABOUT THE FUCKING RESEARCH
hey danger
(nick)
The new Casket Lottery record that's just come out is brilliant.
The new Further Seems Forever record, on the other hand, is not.
