Beach Boys at Wembley in September
How are we feeling about this? Possibly my favourite band of all time - but a plod through all the surf crap without the two best members doesn't really excite me. Also, £70. Hm.

First of all...
I'm not sure how Brian Wilson doesn't make it into one the positions of "the two best members".
Secondly the "surf crap" isn't crap at all, which as they are your "favourite band" of all time you should know.
See, I just find the surf crap too damn corny.
Quite enjoy hearing Surfin USA at weddings, but can't imagine ever wanting to listen to it at home. Just a load of throwaway stuff, great tunes, well-written, but nothing substantial to it. And while we're at it, I find Pet Sounds unlistenably mawkish too. And Smile is a bit whimsical for me.
Am much more into the run from Wild Honey to Holland - spectacular stuff, all of it. The bootleg stuff from around that time is blinding too. Much prefer Brian's writing during that period, but also like how they all stepped up as songwriters when Brian started fading.
Just happens that my most-loved tracks - Feel Flows, Celebrate The News, Forever, Long Promised Road, Falling In Love, Be Still, Little Bird, Big Sur, Lookin' At Tomorrow, All This Is That, Disney Girls, The Trader, Never Learn Not To Love - weren't written by Brian.
Dennis is badass and wrote some incredible songs, and I'm well into the job Carl did in directing and producing the group from 67 or so.
Yeah.
Regardless of the great tunes
they have that weren't written by Brian (and you are correct, there are many) to say Brian isn't in "the two best members" is a bit bizarre.
Definitely not the sort of thing I'd want to see at Wembley
I saw the 'Beach Boys' without Brian a few years ago and it was great. Mike played Disney Girls! That was at Southampton/Portsmouth (can't remember) Guildhall though so a really nice atmosphere and setting.
Argh, Bruce not Mike
Disney Girls?
Wow. I am quite tempted by this now, although I really really can't stand Mike Love.
Mike Love not war. (Sorry.)
I saw Brian Wilson perform Pet Sounds in its entirety in 2006. His voice is appalling but he's employed a brilliant band which made the concert very special. I'll probably leave The Wembley Arena gig.
I love the Beach Boys
but I am steering clear of this whole thing. Any one heard the new single? What a sentimental load of old tripe.
Wilson looked and sounded
like an electrified corpse on Jools Holland last year
Fans of the Beach Boys might find this interesting, though somewhat depressing:

A long article on their upcoming tour, with a focus on Brian Wilson's past. There's also a clip of some rehearsal footage.
Here's hoping it'll be more Glastonbury/Smile tour than that gig he did at the roundhouse last year/year before (forget which),
the last couple of pages of that article are a bit encouraging, at least..
SEVENTY POUNDS!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
SEVENTY! Come on
I hardly imagine them being a great live band either... at least not at the calibre of a £70 live band. I think the Radiohead shows are a rip off but at least they're bound to do something to justify the price, I have a suspicion that The Beach Boys will be your standard gig in front of 70,000 punters & if that's worth £70 to you then by all means do it but the is no way I will even consider it.
Not to mention the fact Brian Wilson doesn't appear to be in any real state to perform on such a large scale
SEVENTY POUNDS
for Wembley Arena rather than stadium,
I'd say that's about what you'd expect. Would rather pay £200 and see them play at Glastonbury, but £70 is about standard price for 'heritage' acts, isn't it? In a sort of see-them-while-they're-still-alive way... Have you seen Brian Wilson on any of his recent tours?
I saw him years ago at The Brighton Dome
it was decent enough, that's all I can really say on the matter
Ah Arena okay, my bad :)
£70, sheesh.
I saw Brian Wilson at the Royal Albert Hall in 2008, I think, and he wasn't awful, I was glad to have seen him, but frankly it wasn't great. It was basically a concert by his backing band with him sitting at the front of the stage joining in sometimes.
i immensely enjoyed brian wilson at bestival last year
but as you say, it was really the big backing band putting on the show, brian looked very old.
£70 is far too much, too much for any band i'd say. (although i'd probably pay that to see daft punk live again as it's such a rare thing to get the opporuntiy to see them and they are that good live.
