2012 Folk/Acoustic/Americana/Singer-Songwriter etc thread...
Much like this one: drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4316751
To kick things off, the lovely second album from Glaswegian guitarist RM Hubbert. A mix of tidy latin-tinged guitar work, with a slew of guests adding bits and pieces here and there.
Guests include Alasdair Roberts, Aiden Moffat and Emma Pollock, among others. The album-- titled Thirteen Lost & Found-- is produced by Alex Kapranos and is out on Chemikal Underground.

First Aid Kit - The Lions Roar
Is really strong and Ani DiFranco - Which Side Are You On? which is okay.
Not much to add from this month. Looking forward to the new Justin Townes Earle album. This track is pretty solid

the travis waltons - your neck is bleeding
http://thetraviswaltonsband.bandcamp.com/album/your-neck-is-bleeding
It's a bit like Pedro The Lion/Low type stuff, really lovely. Some noisier, some quieter songs. Brutal lyrical content at times.
Laura J Martin - The Hangman Tree
Like a folky Kate Bush...
One of the highlights...the track Salamander with Euros Child
Some more stuff.
Canada's Great Lake Swimmers have another album coming out, 'New Wild Everywhere'. Have to say, the lead single sounds a bit... limp and mainstreamy. Hopefully the album overall will be good.
Anti-folker Diane Cluck is embarking on a song-a-week, fan-funded subscription thing over the coming months. http://dianecluck.info/song-of-the-week Hopefully good things to come.
Also been enjoying videos from husband-wife alt-country team Shovels & Rope. Here's a good'un to get you started: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1XMhdAGDgc

The first song is excellent.
Bump!
End of year round up....
Anyone got anything to add?
another DiS mentioned her in a different thread but
Angel Olsen - Halfway Home
Chelsea Wolfe's latest album, Unknown Rooms sort of fits into this category I guess
and Josephine Foster - Blood Rushing
Came here to say Josephine Foster
Brilliant album, never really been a fan before but Blood Rushing is a delight
Hmmmm.
I think it's her weakest album, to be honest.
Julie Doiron.
Her new album is streaming here:

And she's playing The Lexington in February:

I would like to recommend Richard Dawson - The Magic Bridge like in 2011
it was only out on cd then, came out on vinyl this year. And got into the Wire's Avant RoCk top 10.
is that what avant rock is?
i've wondered.
^this though, i listened to it again the other day and it's really great. idk how people write songs like grandad's deathbed hallucinations.
