This should be fun! I love looking back and seeing what was in these lists at the time.
I do think of that song when people say Tweet...
is that a b-side
Trust me on this one. Do it next time you get the chance.
i remmeber the nme christmas issue at the time had different members of different bands doing the trainspotting photofit thing
That link above is a load of old bollocks tho. Calling the 1996 top ten, 'not toe curlingly bad' when at least half of those tracks are classics and then questionning whether born slippy stands up still? What the fuck is that all about? Who cares whether someone may link it to trainspotting, it takes nothing away from the tune! Pointless journalism.
Sleeper and Ocean Colour Scene? I know it's the NME, but really?
Murder Ballads - Nick Cave
Millions Now Living... - Tortoise
Second Toughest... - Underworld
Beautiful Freak - Eels
Being There - Wilco
Endtroducing - DJ Shadow
Many suitable tracks on those.
I'd have gone for Kung Fu over Oh Yeah
And I'd add Going Out of My Head (Fatboy Slim) and MmmBop (Hanson)
I'm embarrassed that I know this.
I was 13, oh and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brf9RET0lk4

I was going by Wikipedia, and apparently they had an indie album called MMMBop, released in 96, mostly re-released as a real album in 97. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MMMBop_%28album%29 (And I genuinely think that's a good song).
a multiple track EP?!
I always thought music was rubbish then.
[rolleyes] at nme not the above posting..
someone has at least called him a Tit in the comments for his Shack abuse...
was a single in 1995 though, Oh Yeah and Goldfinger would be the only singles from 1977 that would be eligible for 1996 (if you see what I mean).
so he is wrong.
is being sorely overlooked.
He can shag off.
How could that get overlooked?
Cake — The Distance
The Eels — Novacaine for the Soul
Sneaker Pimps — 6 Underground
And I'd take 'Rez' over 'Born Slippy' any day.
