i love the last bearsuit album. best band in east anglia and one of the best in the country. thanks to whoever made a swans playlist for me in the swans thread. they are great. bojan z is a cool pianist. fractured groovy jazz. for some reason i'm convinced the next marina & the diamonds album is gonna be perfect but i'm not sure why. the sm/db collab is interesting but not as good as the proper album.

1. Had the EPs on very heavy rotation this week. Books and Plate Tectonics are both amazing, getting very excited about the album and seeing them again at Bestival.
3a) and 6d). IBYM hangovers. Probably my two favourite performances of the day.
3b). Never listened before, checked out the new album on the basis of its pretty cover. Very impressed.
I listened to the Harvey Milk record from last year a lot this week
It's a masterpiece! I was thinking it's probably their best one.
I was very underwhelmed at first
But it's grown on me, and I'd definitely put it up there with their best. My 9 plays were Special Wishes, which I'd never listened to before this week. It's a bit amazing.
Seems like I've been in whiney mode this week

1 - So much Gloss Drop.
5a, 5c - These are pretty overrated, guys. I don't really get the DiS fuss around either.
5b - Obviously much better than both 5a and 5c.
TOTW - Has to be more Battles. I'll go for Futura this week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grnTfmBR3FY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLy_hg_S8pg also this! The Unit Ama who were sort of like a free rock/dischord band from Newcastle. This is about as free jazzy as they get. And the video is nice.

1 – new album from Sean Conrad. Heavy influence from Water this time round in the deeply transfixing hallucinogenic trance.
2 – a couple of free d/l albums of folky drone – laptop & loops. Has a lovely cover of Nico's These days on it: www.sadsouls.bandcamp.com
3 – Just one of the best bands around the UK at the moment. |Totally ditched the BlackMetal – almost all metal – for new album Move. Lots of 80s influence and very aggressive. Sounds like the Horrors if the discovered Swans, meant in the absolute greatest way possible,
6 – New album out to pre-order now. I've been waiting for this for about 5 years or something! Fantastic post-rock band from Chichester, sounding like Sigur Ros and arcade Fire on this new one. Good.
8b – I've also been greatly enjoying Facepalm – solo project of Aaron Coynes. Alien synth psych, just as dubby as Peaking Lights but leans even harder on the dancefloor groove
10 – Great occulty cold-wave guitar band just released a new ep on AMDISCS.
Had some problems with iTunes earlier on in the week so this isn't 100% accurate

1 - "Based" producer; his "Munchies" mixtape is of the 30-plus-short-loops-all-together style (obligatory Dilla reference)
4 - Has there been any talk about this on here? It got a BNM from Pitchfork a few weeks back. Anyhow, it's basically a guy best known for making beats for Cam'ron/Dipset remixing a bunch of super-cheesy trance tunes, although that remixing often involves very little work. It doesn't work as a hip-hop record on any level but I'm not even sure it works as a dance record. It's strangely both very commercial and a complete oddity.
13a - Basically just "Game of Pricks" on a loop.

1. Pretty excited for the new record. If it's even half as good as 'Revenge' or just has one song as good as 'I Rove' than it will probably be one of my favourite albums this year.
2. More excellent Scandinavian noise-rock. Their drone stuff is quite good, though I think I prefer their more rock leaning incarnation.
10c. Gave 'The Constant Pageant' a coule of listens after the thread here and a friend recommending (plus being a fan of Alex Neilson's drumming in Current 93). It's pretty good, they've got an interesting sound. 'Otley Rock Oracle' is a terrific track.
yep, i listened to Cop as well
