King Khan next to Khanate cool eh. Once you get over how loud the vocals are on Jex Thoth it becomes really good. Thomas Function still awesome. I listened to lots of unscrobblable stuff this week like 'Field Recordings From The Sun' and the Pulse Emitter tape. Just FYI
I got my mum a bunch of stuff from the German Christmas market, and Imma augment it with some cheeses and stuff
but Bath is full of that kinda gourmet consumables type shopping stuff.
I don't know for my Dad. He has a precise list every year, and it's best to stick to it cause he buys so many books and records.
Man I would love it if I had a precise list
The market is always good to fall back on. I think i'm just going to have to get into town when there are less people about so I can think clearly. It was horrendous yesterday, you could barely move.

Confused as to how you got 'prog' from Oneida? It seems almost like the antithesis of prog to me...Glad you liked the APC rekkid though.

1) I can't think of anything else like this which I have liked so much.
5) Great for some of those midnight writing blitzes.
8) a) & b) Hand in hand pretty much, right?
8) c) I don't like the new record that much, and not liking it has made me also not like Matador Singles '08. Needs more frantic.
Oh, and considerable amounts of time listening to Ben Frost on soundcloud.
Oneida are well prog man!
12 minute psych-dub-metal rockouts? unbelievably prog. Cronin et al will back me up here.
I'm seeing Six Organs this week in a tiny venue.
really looking forward to it.
I got JR the Matador Singles this week, but was a bit disappointed. It's no Blood Visions is it?
I'm really excited about seeing him at Ten Years of ATP
Yeah, recent Reatard ouput is lacking in....something. I don't know what, but it's not there. Blood Visions is so energetic and fun. Still, he was really great live on this last tour, so ain't complaining.
all the Matador singles tracks are class live
they sound like they could be on Blood Visions no problem. The recorded versions kick a bit less arse don't they. Songs like See/Saw and Screaming Hand are still good though. Not as much of a fan of 'I'm Watching You'. But that is just me. I don't think the songs are any worse, they are kinda more miserable somehow. I D K
I haven't done one of these for weeks,
but I haven't been listening to a lot. I've mainly been listening to neighbourhood radio.
1) The Walkmen 14
2) Neil Young 12
3) Sunn O))) 9
4) The For Carnation 5
5) Brian Eno 4
Monoliths & Dimensions is really great isn't it? It reminds me of the Taxi Driver soundtrack. I'm really looking to seeing them at ATP, but I've no idea how they'll do it live. Are they going to have horns?
I've listened to the new Edan thing a few times. It's an emusic bargain. 1 credit for 30 minute mix.
BONUS: I'm not sure what I'll get my parents for Christmas. I'll probably buy the Steve Martin album for my dad. He's a big bluegrass/zydeco fan.
I'm seeing Sunn O))) on the 14th
I'm intrigued as to how they're going to do monoliths and dimensions live too. Going by Saint Cronin's thread on seeing them live they play Agharta, Big Church and Hunting and Gathering (Cydonia), and added Candlegoat from Black One. I think they have a more stripped down live sound for it too, no choirs or string sections. I think they've been touring with a trombonist for a while though, and have synths and stuff. I think Randall Dunn is involved in mixing them live too. I don't think we can expect it to sound like the record, but it'll probably be good no matter how they do it.

1) Been playing the Spoils a lot this week. Devil Take You, Clay Bodies and Dog especially
4) Dimensional Bleedthrough is still brilliant. Incredibly epic and intense and much more muscular than the debut. The rising wall of noise at the end of Monoliths of Possession is one of the loudest things I've heard on record.
7b) Cool Belgian Neo-Folk group. Bits are more upbeat and punky, others more psychedelic and droney. Thanks to Arfie for recommending them to me

I also started checking out lots of Pavement ATP bands like Saccharine Trust, Faust, Quasi and The Raincoats.
1, 3, 4 & 9 - Trying to catch up on what I've missed this year so these have been on heavy rotation. And order of merit right now seems pretty fair
2 + 6 (Rihanna) - Realised I'd not heard any pop records this year so amending that too. Annie is great, even if some of the stronger tracks from that EP SHOULD have been on 'Don't stop'. And the Rihanna one is a HUGE grower after 4 listens.
5 - Not put these on for a few months, but got a bit addicted all over again this week...
I've also listened to that Edan mix about a dozen times
But as it's one long track, I guess it didn't sneak on here...

I'm loving that Bike for Three! record, and it made me want to listen to Buck 65 again, which has also resulted in me returning to a lot of hip-hop... the Four Tet remixes of Madvillain are really outstanding (and then I listened to Four Tet more.. this is like a wonderful musical narrative, or something less gay).
Not much 'new' in there, finally got round to listening to Chad VanGaalen though, really loving the song 'Clinically Dead' :)
