i've been enjoying the new lil wayne
mix tape. apart from the black eyed peas one.
my tastes in rap lie with the pitchfork approved set.
i'm so white.
Pretty good mixtape.
Nice to see he is backtracking from rock route he was threatening to go down.
You need to branch out Dave, what stuff do you like besides Wayne?
Sweet Dreams - feat Nicki Minaj is soo good
Much better than previous efforts with Weezy and Minaj such as this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUyP3KeB-vs&feature=related
big boi feat gucci mane - shine blockas
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqs-pPEZ19s
Yah,
great tune, hopefully the album will be at least this good.
Its time for a new Outkast lp as well.
that is
terrible!
Nah
its only terrible of you're still stuck in that underground/overground pointless 2001 argument.
Gucci isnt great, but his voice fits the vibe.
This is pretty cool

Twinz From a DJ Premier mixtape.
Also like that David Sitek produced Wale one.

and seriously one of the best songs of all time
MF Grimm-Crumb Snatchers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aozK14hFwk
the tune before '..Caged Bird Sings' is also equally as decent, sort of like a part 1,
and yeah Crumb Snatchers is sweet, Slick Rick sample makes it.
mobb deep - hectic
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODFnpqphSUg&feature=related
too $hort - freaky tales

Consider it copped.
Diamond D is class.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyGISOfNJX4
Man that Mobb Deep tune takes me back to high school...
great track.

Grimm is SO very much under-appreciated.
People need educating.
Cormega - Rapture
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcdXt_2TFPE
I need to get back in this rap game.
banging Ayatoallah production that, megas new album is pretty decent, no Realness though.
My track of choice off Born and Raised
Make it Clear, preemo bringing that vintage sound
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2O7AztwwwM
revisiting tha carter III
also this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FyvGvV2mXs
Didnt Chuck Hamilton
get dropped from his label after he got bitch-slapped by his baby-mama on youtube? That was laughs.
haha, what?
at this start of this year i listened to him non-stop but i just cant keep us with his mixtapes anymore so have no idea what hes doing.

Its all covered

Eic B & Rakim - Eric B for President, Paid in Full
Ice Cube - Today was a good day
Dr Dre - Let me ride
Young MC - I got Know how
The RZA - Liquid Swords
KRS 1 - South Bronx
Roxanne Shante vs UTFO - Roxanne Roxanne
Anything on any of the electro hip hop albums ever released \9why can't you get them on CD? SOrt it out Morgan Khan!)
That's annoying, I just wrote a huge list out and it didn't post.
Anyway, the jist of it was, anything on the Street sounds label from the period of about 1984 to about 1988.
And likewise for Boogie down productions.
Oh, and anything by Roxanne Shante, especially Roxanne SHante vs UTFO.
SHIT ROXANNE, I WANNA BE YOUR MAN!
I see your list.
Classic stuff.
Tabi Bonney: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qICLcFEmnok

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYZkGqcWy8A
Klashnekoff: Little UK
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDGJd1LwQ64
Never heard
Tabi Bonney or that last one you linked.
I like that Tabi Bonney track tho. Some simple minimal stuff. May look into this dude.
It's old
but "Let The Funk Flow" by EPMD played in my car today. So smooth.
..

Just got into
MOP this year, I was too pu$$y to handle it before I think. Billy Danze is unparalleled as far as hard spittin goes. Warriorz, To the Death and Firing Squad are all insane albums.
For pure skills...
Pharoahe's verse on Organized Konfusion's 'Bring It On' (Prince Po's ain't bad either): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUn1u9SYdCQ
Blackalicious' salvo of Alphabet Aerobics/Chemical Calisthenics (beats by Cut Chemist): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foEU2WHdOzA
I like
Jay Z - Empire state of mind
charles hamilton - brooklyn girls
and raekwon.
heard 50 cent's new one the other day: "have a baby by me, be a millionaire". It's brilliant.
Just got into BORN LIKE THIS.
And now has yet to find a way to stop listening to it, specifically Gazillion Ears and Batty Boyz.
MAKE IT STOP MAKE IT STOP.
Good album.
Go cop Kid Koala's free, live mixtape.
http://asheq.co.uk/2009/11/14/kid-koala-live-in-toronto
Got this. Thanks.
nice little listen.
Got this. Thanks.
nice little listen.
just getting round to listening to the '89 mix
Slick Rick was ace.
Some new stuff, some older:
Mighty Underdogs - Science Fiction (coulda chosen the whole album really)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isL-M4_Mftk
Lowkey - Tears to Laughter (probably isn't very cool on here, but hey)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4p1CJwTNC9M
Oh No, Roc C & Dilla - Move, Pt.2 (stone-cold classic)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mtm6GqpPW8
El-P - How to Serve Man (off the new Def Jux comp)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9993PbTxHM
Mos Def - Auditorium (loving the album)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT-hYXqTN38
Gift of Gab - Escape 2 Mars (again, loving the whole album)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hoXdMdYoJ4
Anti-Pop - Timpani
Fresh Espresso - Vader Rap
(don't think either's on youtube)
Also dug out this golden oldie recently:
Mark B & Blade - The Unknown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-zj2UOSQYw
Quality stuff.
Oh, and I've not heard the album yet, but
the new Foreign Beggars single is filthygood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb55ep-DrSo
Very nice.
That El-P is real sickly. Hadnt heard that yet, he still sounds fresh.
MIghty Underdogs album is cool. Havent picked up that Gift of Gab yet, but that track is nice, I have a soft spot for him, has breath control is top notch.
Mos Def is still an 09 highlight. As is Anti-Pop.
Oh No joint is tops, Dilla doin it big.
I'm liking hip hop a lot at the moment
Been re-listening to El-P and Company Flow. He's due another album soon, surely? Gotta see him next time he's over here as well.
Lil' Wayne's new mixtape is class (except maybe the Black Eyed Peas cover) , and it's had me going back to his older stuff. Da Drought 3 and The Cartel Presents The Carter are still both so solid.
Which leads nicely onto this:
http://www.myspace.com/flyinglotus
His remix of I Feel Like Dying is in-fucking-credible.
I am also going through a 'must-have-everything' phase with Madlib. Just as well that Shades of Blue is the last record I can afford to buy for a while: got it about a month ago and it has hardly left my CD player. Just brilliant stuff, really. But it seriously makes me want to investigate their whole catalogue. Which is the point, I seem to remember him saying when he was interviewed in Wire.
Otherwise, I think I'm re-evaluating Jay-Z. Never had much time for him as an album artist, but have been listening to the new one a lot after initially writing it off. Great performance on Jools as well.
The Blue Note catalogue is a thing of rare beauty.
I can heartily recommend just about everything the label released from about 1957-1964. LeeMorganAndrewHillArtBlakeyJackieMcLeanWayneShorterJoeHendersonMcCoyTynerHankMobleyHoraceSilverFreddieHubbardGrantGreenOrnetteColemanCecilTaylorBobbyHutchersonholyshittheyputoutalotofgoodstuff.
Some links, y'all.
Quik & Kurupt. Know I'm behind on this one, but old school west coast g-funk. The whole album is quality, brings back memories of classic Snoop & Dre in particular.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNdqvTJPhC4
If you still think OB4CLII ain't gonna be any good, you should watch this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR7kVnh3PlI
And of course the best track off the latest Mos Def. Someone tell me more about Slick Rick please?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT-hYXqTN38
Most of the rest has already been mentioned. New Anti-pop still rules hard, especially 'Shine'. Disappointed they didn't pull it out live tbh.
Love that Big Boi track, very excited by the new El-P stuff and I already mentioned Lil' Wayne, even though some guy linked to the best track off the new mixtape up above.
Rick the Ruler (Slick Rick)
Dude was original as hell.
He was the first to go WAAY over the top with the jewelry, would just stack up a bunch of gold necklaces with big pendants. check it: http://thestartingfive.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/slickricktrunk.jpg
He rocks an eye patch and gold teeth (did it before it was fashionable).
He was known for being the smoothest on the mic. Snoop Dogg ripped off his whole steez:
Slick Rick - Lodi Dodi

vs
Snoop Dogg - Lodi Dodi (check the name drop right up front)

Da Art of Storytelling (guest verse on the remix of the Outkast song)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjNLQeohXew
Also, he was one of the first (and best) to tell full storys in a rap song. And he was nasty. And he did major time in prison.
I've always loved that animation for Behind Bars, Slick Rick is the best British MC of all time.
I've been listening to him a lot recently myself.
As well as:

UGK-Candy (probably my favorite car song ever)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlUvfFR4W8Y
Mellow My Man
is one of my favorite tracks (cliche but true), all time.
"WHOAHHHHH, shucks, my nuc snuff ducks
Abruptly I erupt, to destruct, deducts
In wax I like to smack em, stroke em as I cap em
Change my name to Saran or Reynolds then I Wrap em"
Classic.
Common shat all over his catalog with his latest release didn't he. I though his transition with Be and Finding Forever was semi-respectable (still brought it on a few songs) but that new one is unforgivable.
Ludacris is real hit and miss for me, but when he brings it, its pretty great. Like such:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbGqRDDqbB8
Thats the kind of beat you bang out on a lunch room table. Great hype track, used it last week as such before my city league basketball game, it worked. Waynes verse is nothing to piss at either.
All them other picks are class as well.
Download new Doomtree!

How did the Jacka
find his way on to your radar? Dude is a straight up deep underground bay area unknown. Nice find. Good album, cool cover as well.

It's a good show.

is anyone planning to see Thavius Beck at The Macbeth on the 30th?
Possibly
Cool
Buy me a drink.
been listening to a lot of Sean Price recently
still eagerly anticipating that Random Axe album but there seems to be no sign of it as yet. Still, P is one of the best MCs alive, easy.

some stellar beats from Black Milk on that one.

Save Ya: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLFc-BzioGk
LOVE Sean P.
Ruck is still bringin it in his old age, altho the Kimbo Slice mixtape wasnt stellar. His next full length should be good. Monkey Barz and J Price Superstar are both good. I HOPE you have the work he did with Heltah Skeltah, you do, right? Nocturnal is better than anything recent he is dropping.
The Elzhi and Black Milk lp's are my two favorite rap albums from last year. Well, both in the top 5 anyways.
"you're"
