Animal Collective
Grizzly Bear
reading stuff like this
and Popjustice, makes me think I'm not doing what I would be doing if I started DiS today. I'm sure most people hate this kinda 'journalism' but it's exactly the hornet-nest jostling, dissenting voice the web should be offering.
they're really annoying to be honest
they try bless them but they just arn't funny enough to pull it off.
er
</trying not to say something racist about American sense of humour>
no idea what you're on about...
er
how is that list or anything in his lame preamble dissenting
if anything, it couldn't be anymore agreeable to the putridity of the status quo.
DiS is doing way better than you think. I don't hang around here cause I'm an anglophile.
except of course for Saturdays=Youth
You're still in the doghouse for that one buddy. Got some serious making up to do this year.
: )
really?
I need to find my way into the duckhouse this year.
oh and I think most the staff will walk out if I make Paramore (which is my album of the year), the album of the DiS year. Not started the staff vote.
And the user voting is going to be done via our database this year.
Paramore? Holy Jesus, yeah, fight the urge to go rogue on that.
For the record: I would never walk out on you.
Really, I've been avoiding it
"Misery Business" from the last album is catchy as hell, but so it rabies, so I gave the last album a miss,
I'm putting a lot of trust in you Sean, should I buy it?
whoa, don't be too hastey, save your money and buy this instead!

I already have 2
In case one runs in the wash
I couldn't look at that website for more than about 2 seconds
Summary pls.
in an egg shell
The “Dark Was the Night” compilation - Think that this was a ‘big deal’ and ‘for a good cause’ or something. I feel like it might be worth mentioning again if you feel like ’seeming like a good person’ based on the brand of your website/magazine. This probably appeals to people over the age of 28. ‘Know ur audience’ -music journalism editors when coming up with their lists
Bullet points maybe?
Sorry, i don't have a clue what's going on in this thread...

just read the fucking thing?
nah, don't bother, it's pish.
I don't know whether to be amused
or thoroughly depressed. That made for the weirdest moment this evening by far
I
Detest all of the bands on this list except The Big Pink. I give the whole elctro, "animal bands" one more year and hopefully people will lose interest.
that means that you win
Can...
meta-dissent really be classified as dissent?
beta not better?
Wow.
Biting satire.
If that's what music journalism should be aspiring to, then I'd say it's fucked.
nah, all journalism should aspire to this

But The Big Pink are going to be top of nobody's list
They're top of mine, I think the record is brilliant.
I'd like the original article more if it didn't use text speak. Bloody numbers.
I think...
Louis Pattison summed up the Big Pink perfectly in a recent Guide review.
---
Blame the hype, but modern British indie finds itself in a peculiar place where the contents don't always seem to correspond with the packaging. Read magazine articles about the Big Pink and learn they're skagged-up party monsters who haven't slept since 2007, recording numerous epic, feedback-strafed treatises on the nature of love. Then you put it on and it sounds just like Glasvegas but with lyrics about being a bit nasty to girls and you wonder if you're even listening to the right record.
I do hope you're joking sean!
I was insulted enough by the 'bros' from 'britain' speel (trying to claim credit for top american artists?), but what's with all the 'speech marks', desperately 'trying' to 'emphasises everything' as though 'quoting' the most 'moronic' indie cunt-flaps in history... sorry, 'history'.
Surely claiming everyone knows who Neon Indian are...
only serves to highlight the chasm between critical acclaim and popular taste?
speaking of which (re: popular taste, fans, etc)
did everyone read this amazing article this week? One of the best things I've read about in ages (probably deserving of its own thread) http://www.fingertipsmusic.com/comment_casual.htm
That's truly brilliant
and covers a lot of issues that have been troubling me recently.
I agree with most here I guess
that this article was not good at all. I'm not even talking about the opinions here (though I could, mind you), but the writing is not funny, not insightful, and in a deliberate hipster ungrammatical way which in fact annoys me.
if bI best you mean
T3h 'wo
'rst'!! thn u'd be korre
ct LOL dur-t-prahjactuz
I'm clearly too old for this article
as I couldn't even read it. It was just incomprehensible.
feel like HRO is a "funny satire blog"
but don't know if I rlly "get it" or if the joke is "on me." Just wanna chill and listen to some bros who make "cool tunez." <3 u carles.
Was that meant to be "funny"
if so I didnt "get it"
I can happily say the link almost defines the term
shit for cunts.
I will never respect anyone who uses "2" in that way.
I've read this guy's stuff before...
It's a cynical satire directed at online indie culture. Whether it's especially funny (or necessary) or not is up for debate, obviously, but he's definitely not reaffirming the status quo.
true
it's certainly not the new Buddyhead. But then the new Buddyhead is quite what Buddyhead once was.
What is the best thing for this on the blog?
HipsterR' is just an Onion column idea about p4k which grew into a whole site, innit?
I'm all up for funny satirical music coverage
but this isn't it and neither is Popjustice, Holy Moly or Vice. They just arn't very funny, they try to be and thats admerable but it doesn't really work. They might find a funny subject but they don't nail it and they all do it in a really pretentious annoying way that comes out sounding like that giggling annoying drunk scenster type that wont leave you alone in the pub when you say you like indie music and read pitchfork once. They say comedians usualy want to be rock stars but they're yet to say comedians want to be music critics... and thats a shame cos it could be well funny.
don't disagree
was just nice to read someone put year end lists into that context. it's exactly what i've been thinking all week "what do these choices say about me/DiS" when predicting what the list might look like.
It's that kind of writing that makes me hate people.
It's not some big fucking secret that people select what they say based on what it communicates about them. There aren't any new or interesting observations there, and the person certainly seems like they don't like music. The message that they're trying to communicate is that they're too insecure to take a chance on admitting to enjoying something, so they might as well take the piss out of everything and hope someone thinks they're cool. Don't give them the satisfaction Sean.
i literally have no idea what the fuck that site is about.
it's like someone's pour bleach in my eyes whilst kicking my bollocks and tweezering each hair on my chest off as they sing Pokerface though a rugby mouth shield.
someone's been wathcing 'the thick of it'
It's funny for a while
but why has making a clear point about something have to be so complicated. This kind of satire would work in one review or one article, but a whole site? It just comes across as stupid as the kind of people he's trying to imitate.
So looking 4ward for "real" things 2 become "cool" again.
