Demo rummaging...
Let's try and discover a band in the DiS demo pile (which is now open to all online) http://soundcloud.com/groups/drownedinsound
Last time we did this Esben and the Witch were amongst the bands in there.
So, listen, react, say yay or nay (and if you're in a band, add your tracks asap!)

Methodaire
looks like we're losing the 'loudness war'
how so?
viewing them they don't seem to have a large dynamic range
but the proof is in the pudding, I'll give them a listen, are there any you recommend?
one so far
bottom of first page You dont have to go anywhere Uploaded by skellywager
I'm on it
SoundCloud's waveform images
are massively "compressed". http://s16.photobucket.com/albums/b20/wordsfromrob/images/?action=view&current=Waveforms.png shows the same file according to SoundCloud, WaveLab, CD Wave and Goldwave.
Said file can be listened to at http://soundcloud.com/andstarscollide/every-step-takes-me-further-from-home-part-ii ;-)
christ
wow this loudness mastering thing's getting a bit out of hand. Most of them look like solid square wave blocks.
I think I'll upload one of my band's tracks when I get home.
fuckitwhynot
s'whatithought
also
i like your track. s'good.
props, bredren
Cezary Gapik & Forest Creature are the best so far
H.A.L. - where's the danger you promised me?
Just uploaded (Daniel J Nixon)...
...fear I may have missed the boat.
just uploaded one myself
be kind.........it's the one called cold morning.
Uploaded...(well, my bandmate did...)
An Axe - Taxidermist's Bride.
On page 3 now I think.
uploaded a track a while back (4 month, to be precise!)
Man is Slapped - Student Activism . On p27 as of NOW.
eehhh... make of it what you will. I'll be putting it all together with a few more tracks sometime soon for a new EP. Jag-tastic.
O'Messy Life
just stuck a couple of O'Messy Life tracks up
i am listening.
surprisingly nothing like cap'n jazz.
the name...
...is the only inspiration really
I've clicked on three random ones so far.
It's like a Create Your Own Dublin Castle line-up so far.
I'm most impressed by Message To Bears so far.
Whether that's because it's actually good or just because I was tiring of the indie onslaught, I have no idea.
Other than those, that 'Solstice' song isn't too bad.
ta sir
that is my band :)
parties in belgrade
track added, - Statues
...
these are all shit.
Soundcloud is so jokes
I like the little comments on the songs:
1:24 oh man such an ace chord
ahem
even though the web FASCISTS have blocked it here there are a couple of Amy Blue tracks in the DiS dropbox (Amy Dates Detiny and The Yellow House I think...). Love me for it. Or just say what you think rather than letting them sit there.
'The Mirror'
I've uploaded a track called 'The Mirror'. Its released Nov 30th. The band appear on Marc Riley's BBC6 show later this month too.
Enjoy, lament, skip, love, ignore - what ever floats your boat.

O'The Good Times
By O'Messy Life is the best track on page 1 Sean.
So good I had to type O' 3 times!
WHERE'S THE LURKSMASH?!
Added one from my band
Death of the Party.
Draygo's Guilt - Pulse
Yes, we're paid to say it but I could happily swear on family members lives that we mean it...
This is good. Has been a while since I, personally, have heard some interesting guitar music, fortunately, I've found faith in Draygo's Guilt.
www.draygosguilt.com
Based one listen:
Sleep Patterns - Nothing new, but I enjoyed this. Mostly because of the girly backing vox. Flows nicely. Sweet lyrics. Steps up a gear just when it needs to.
Draygo's Guilt - Meh. Not bad, just didn't really feel it. Possibly to do with the production more than anything; there's not much development across the song. The rhythm guitar is tonally quite harsh. I like the PM'd guitar. Chorus vox and melody is a rip off of a million Oasis tracks.
Death of the Party - Don't particularly like the vocals. The girl vox are doubled in places which seems kinda odd. The acoustic guitar(s) work really well as a contrast to the rest of the electronic instrumentation, though they're not very apparent until near the end.
these are my bands

be kind DiS people x
I like Cold morning
driving big sounding intriguing and quite involving this is very good, my only critic would be the vocal delivery is a bit furious and breathy for me at times, that may well be what you were aiming for though so tell me to shut my pig mouth.
Also like Solstice too, not listened to out of touch yet.
ps good names you drew me in like a mouth to your wintery flame
Cold morning - I quite like that track.
thanks guys
regarding the vocals - they were demos. We recorded the vocals in about five minutes haha...they should hopefully be better recorded one day. All in all, glad you like the songs. Do listen to Out of Touch and let me know what you think! That's the fave of quite a few people
just sent one of my band's songs..
'distance is run'
have a listen gwaaaaan!
thanks
and yup as i'm in total jag mode this morning.
i posted this right at the beginning and its lost in the depths now, anyway you might recognise the band, talons', from a thread i've made and keep on bumping shamelessy, anyway this is one track from my next release. http://soundcloud.com/hjtadros/fools-gold
Voltage Black
"Treacle Bears"
http://soundcloud.com/voltageblack/voltage-black-treacle-bears
Thanks chaps
x
cool song
what have you done with the tempo? It seems to go faster and faster yet I'm not sure if it actually does. Also the way it pinches off in the middle and then comes back with a vengeance- good humored touches.
me like
thank you, and...
... yes, indeed - it starts about 80bpm and gradually builds to something like 130. Cheers for listening and taking the time to say you enjoyed it. Awesome.

All The Wine
is really quite nice. At the bottom of the first page. Can't quite figure out who the band/artist is though.
this has been on there for a while
and there's some new stuff going up soon, but you'll get the folkin' idea. christ. any ideas/comments much appreciated.

I like the Sons Of The Pioneers' backing vocals
You should send your link to: info@glacialpace (attn. Isaac)
he's a sucker for anything with banjo in it
aside from that I'd say the music needs a little more urgency and some kind of threatening quality. Something that makes one sit up and take notice rather than going to sleep. Pretty song and it is a bit lullaby-ish (in a good way, don't get me wrong). I like the pacing of it and how it does build a little and add new elements.
thanks for the comments, saint cronin.
they're much appreciated. i agree it sounds a little flimsy and distracted; this was partly my intention, and partly a result of instrumental, recording and imaginative limitations. thanks for giving it a listen
I have to say I was most impressed by Forest Creature - edit 3
I think I played one of the tracks a few places up and sort of got on with whatever it was I was doing and then that came on. I was all, fuck me this is good. Perked my ears right up. Nice one, SC.
Gonna play it again.
i've uploaded a rough demo of my band
could probably do with recording some new stuff
here it is anyway:
