The Mountain Goats
Yeah, it's great...
I can't say I know too much of their stuff... but Tallahassee, Heretic Pride, and The Sunset Tree are all well worth checking out...
yes, must investigate further
Just on Matthew 25:21..
..when I read this thread. A great album, perfect for some late night listening. Never heard any of their stuff before this, but checked out tons on Spotify since.
Dear friend you are in luck!
The mountain goats have one of the best back catalogues of any band currently going. There's so much greatness it's hard to know where to start.
It used to be a much more lo-fi 'one man and his acoustic guitar' set up, if that floats your boat I'd get 'The Coroner's Gambit'. If you prefer the full band set up then go for 'The Sunset Tree' or 'We shall all be healed', but there is so much gold there.... you can't really go wrong.
They're great live too!
excellent!
nothing like immersing yourself in a new back catalogue

It would be up there in my top five of this year
if they cut out the happy songs. This may sound a tad on the miserablist side, but for me Genesis 3.23 interrupts the flow of the album, I keep having to skip it. I think my favourite is 1 John 4.16
did anyone get it from rough trade?
it came with a bonus disc of demo/rough versions including some songs that didn't make it. that's really good as well.
actually, i wish darnielle did more of those demo versions. there's one for the sunset tree (come, come to the sunset tree) and thats ace as well. its like having the current style albums played in the old style.
Fantastic.
I'd say it's one of his better albums. I rather disliked Heretic Pride, and Get Lonely didn't do much for me, so Life Of The World To Come is a welcome change.
