Espers I and II are really good
III has just come out and I haven't really listend to it yet.
this was the talk of the town last year
what went wrong?
The bands are hardly worthy of the term 'shred' are they?
but Woods are also better than any of the bands that have previously played Shred Yr Face
swings and roundabouts.
Last year imo was one of the most essential
punk rock tours around whilst, I'm a little non plussed by most of these bands.
Nothing 'went wrong'.
You probably noticed more from the last two partly because of the sponsors. The first was "in association with" drownedinsound, and the second was with rocksound. Both of which have much more of an internet presence than this year's associates, Kruger magazine.
I don't think it's particularly worthwhile questioning the title "shred yr face", as nobody really knows what is meant by that (not than anything is meant to be). Nobody expects every ATP gig to be a 'party' so I don't know why you'd assume SYF would limit itself to only creating tours with guitar shredding/noisy bands. It is after all, just a loose title, created in order to make the continuity clear and create a recognisable moniker for the shows.
The important thing about SYF is that it puts three good bands on tour together, who share a similar ethos and create a sense of community on tour. Which is pretty rare for a lot of tours these days.
I'm very much looking forward to the Bristol gig. Though this edition's line up is noticeably different to the previous two, and perhaps has less recognisable names, I feel that's totally in SYF's favour as it shows it's not limiting itself and prides itself on putting good bands out to tour, primarily.

Espers are also devilishly excellent live, I too am looking forward to the Bristol gig with relish.
yesterday's instores
What was with all the cancellations yesterday? About 15 of us standing outside Pure Groove at 2pm expecting Woods, and then no Espers at RTE either?
Is anyone going on this Thursday?
