The Parisian Music Scene
Unbelievably, I've made it to 22 without ever having visited Paris, so I need your advice. Where are all the best clubs and record stores? Are there any wonderful small Parisian bands to see?
Myself and my band are there for a week from the 1st of February and I'd be nice to do a couple of shows there too, are you, or do you know any promotors or clubnights worth checking out?
Many thanks

Bimbo Tower and Born Bad
are record shops
i don't know much but the impression i have
is that its awfully over priced and lacking in most good things. for an example a ticket for hair police in london was about a fiver and in paris its 18 euros, two dino jr tickets were around 70 euros. Lyle might know better i don't thinks theres many good record shops out there either. But yeah wait around for Lyle to answer he'll know for sure, also Bizzy is living their for 8 months and goes to a load of gigs she could let you know a bit more.
That dinosaur Jr gig was vastly overpriced.
No wonder it was far from selling out...
Also if you do a search there have been loads of recommendation threads for gig venue in Paris.
Though lyle loves the attention so will probably give you them all again.
I love attention ?
Me ?

Lyle to thread!
repeat, Lyle to thread!
I'm lyle's Parisian replacement. HELLO
ummm Ground Zero records is the best I've found. There are a lot of good gigs, at La Maroquinerie, Nouveau Casino, or Elysee in Monmatre. However everything IS ridiculously expensive, way more so than london. Yes this sucks.
Ummm for clubnights and stuff where you can do shows there's a few places in the 9th/10th/11th which would probably best to be checkingout. I'm not sure of names or what not. Feel free to PM me if you want to ask anything else.
hi
lived there for years, im french.
about wonderful bands, depends what you're into ?
loads of stuff
Without plying you with loads of stuff that's already been suggested I'd try here: http://www.sortiraparis.com/concert/agenda/ and when you get there, pick up a copy of Lylo from Fnac: http://www.lylo.fr/
My personal favourites are...
Point Ephémère, Cabaret Sauvage, Mains D'Oevres, Instants Chavirés. Born Bad is well worth the trip, as is Arcade Mode. Pick-up a copy of VoxPop. Get on the guest list for Paris Paris. Go to a clown rave in the catacombs. Listen to minimal at Le Rex on a Wednesday. Drink with old French rockers in Le Fanfaron. Do open mic with Herman Dune at Le Pop Inn on Sunday. Dance to electro at Social Club. Wear your best turtle neck in Sunrise.
Outside of music, spend your life savings in Colette and Zadig Et Voltaire, wake up to Breakfast In America and wash your Galloises down with coffee in Café Etienne Marcel.
For gigs,
"big" venues are from expensive (nearly always above 15/20 €) : le point FMR, la Maroquinerie, les Mains d'oeuvres, les Instants Chavirés(close at the moment), Trabendo, la Boule Noire, le Café de la danse... to very expensive (above 30€) : Elysée Montmarte, Bataclan, Cigale, Olympia...
But there's a few small places (mostly pubs) with cheap gigs (Rigoletto, Mécanique ondulatoire, la Java...) or free gigs (International, le vieux Léon, le Pop In...) where you can see really great artists.
La flèche d'or will reopen soon.
Most small record shops have been given by other replies, so I'll just add that Gibert Disques (yes, it's a big place, not a small record shop, so what ?) is usually the best place to find indie albums on Import.
For french bands, best is to check who's playing on the small/free gigs and expereince it yourself...
