Mew & The Glass Handed Kites
Not listened to this for a while, pleased to find it still confusingly wondrous – sparse, occasionally dissonant guitar bits, complete stadium rock lapses, off kilter drumming, keyboard drones & slightly twee lyrics from a vocalist halfway between the Pet Shop Boys & Sigur Ros. One of my favourite records. Is the new album worth trying?

Hard to verbalise how it differs from Glass Handed Kites, but if you liked that there's a fair chance you'll like the new record.

I love Glass Handed Kites
The songs still sound awesome even when removed from the "suite" (or whatever it's called when a set of songs that run into each other). The new album is totally worth getting too, as is Frengers and A Triumph for Man which is kind of shoegazey and has nice double rhythm guitar parts in quite a few of the songs. Half the World is Watching Me is a bit shit though, production makes it sound dead and it has a few truly terrible songs on it
This is one of my favourite albums
in fact it's so good that this thread encouraged me to write a reply when I haven't bothered with the music board for ages.
I like the new one as well, for me it combines the indie pop elements of Frengers with the confusing-as-fuck patchwork quilt elements of the Glass Handed Kites. The guitars are instantly recognisable, as are the vocals.
Has anyone else
kind of forgotten "No More Stories...", it's just not very inviting anymore. I don't know what happened, I liked it OK on the first 8 listens or so, but now it's just disappeared somehow.
"...Kites" on the other hand pops up every now and then, it's brilliant...maybe the new one will in time.

I think it peaks at the 4th track but is still a decent album.

on the first few listens I just didn't engage with it at all, but now I think it's excellent.

i love frengers but for me no more stories and glass handed kites are just so much more complete as an album of awesome, mew have moved onto bigger better things
