what kind of venue is NSB?
i've got a ticket, yum
NSB is the band Natural Snow Buildings, you might actually like them, kind of dark droney swilrs of noise with folky interludes. Its in a pretty swell church called St-Giles-In-The-Field, or something. No idea about times, i'll try get their for doors as its going to be packed and i wanna a good pew.
They're on Blackest Rainbow

Damn midweek gigs, might have to try to finish work a bit early. Not got to travel from anywhere near as far as Brighton though, good luck with that!

someone would've put on an NSB headline gig whilst they were here. Couldn't justify the expense just to catch them on the bottom of the bill, but would love to see them.

i can't be arsed to keep up with everything they put out but "the snowbringer cult" is one of my favoutite records of the last few years.
Apart from the slightly premature ending, this was excellent.
I actually think that Natural Snow Buildings might have been my highlight, actually.
And for those that were wondering, apparently it was a fuse that had tripped, but unfortunately they couldn't get to it and sort it out without calling the vicar out from his house. Or something.

I missed seeing minutemen in chicago after the cops cut the power to the venue- I never thought to call the vicar that night.

Fennesz only got on stage at 9.50 (at best) and at 10.30 the guy at the back cut the power, mid song, due to curfew. I get curfews and all, but it would have been nice to finish the song he was on.
He was supposed to start at 9.30, but I think he was delayed by general delays, and I'm sure Grouper shouldn't have been on as long as she was - she played for 45 min, and she was only down to play 30 min I think. I thought she was OK.
Fennesz was amazing though, really really enjoyed it.

Doors opened at 6:55 and there was nothing happening until 8, they could have easily started at 7:30. The venue was more than busy enough. Shame about Fennesz, I saw him in April do 75 mins and it was great.
It wasn't cut due to a curfew.

and then it stopped, suddenly, as a fuse blew. The odd thing was that his facial expression didn't change at all, and so, for a minute or two, no-one was really sure whether it was part of the show or not.

It would have been great
to see more Fennesz. He seemed to be a lot louder than NSB & Grouper and that really worked in the space. NSB were excellent. That church has really uncomfortable pews.

We went upstairs (I don't think it has a name other than gallery, but I might be wrong) in the end - slightly worse view for most people (though when we knelt we had a perfect view, near the front), but the pews were solid and not leaning forward. I kept sliding off when I was downstairs.
i was thinking about it earlier
the church is lovely and the sound is great but the seating is pretty awful. i dread the three hours on those pews. and i'm a pretty tall guy and i can hardly see anything half way back in the pews. i'm not complaining really as i do like the place and i've seen two amazing gigs there with miles of smiles. just the seats are hell.

The people sitting in the aisle knew what was what. In fact, the queue for the toilet was one of the best places to be in some respects (there were a couple of pews there that I don't think were meant for public use, but seemed to be sat on regardless - good move, I reckon).
I sat on a kneeler in the end - it was more comfortable and it gave me the extra inch or so I needed to be able to rock over and wedge my knees against the parapet so I could peer over. At 6'1", you don't expect this kind of thing to be such an issue.

It's very much a cuboid throughout. I thought it was a Hawksmoor, but it appears not to be, but that should give you a rough idea of the shape of it.
Also, ciboria are rare in C-of-E churches (I've never seen one yet, as it happens), and possibly Anglican more generally, but I couldn't swear to it.

I was deep in conversation by the time I reached that point in the queue, though. There's a real camaraderie to that queue. Strangely unLondonesque.
It would have been quicker to go to the pub and use theirs,
but there's something relaxing about chatting to someone else with a full bladder about seventeenth century parish boundaries.
