2009 albums you've consistently listened to since they came out?

three times a week?!
Sadly, I do not have anywhere near that much time to listen to music that I could both keep up with even a small proportion of the albums being release AND listen to any one of them as many as three times a week. If over the course of a year, the number of listens for a given album averages to as much as once a week, then it's done very, very well.
On that score, I'd say that the following albums make the grade:
A Place To Bury Strangers -- Exploding Head
Yeah Yeah Yeahs -- It's Blitz
The Horrors -- Primary Colours
School of Seven Bells -- Alpinisms
The first one has obviously had far fewer plays than the others, by virtue of having been available only for the last couple of months.
three hours a week is not much to ask for an incredible album
I cheat by being able to listen to music while I work and I have a long commute so I have plenty of opportunities that some folks probably don't get. Also, much of what I do in my spare time can easily be accompanied by M U S I C. I pretty much don't do anything that I can't listen to music whilst doing it.
Shower- music
Sex- music
Eat- music
Shit- music (well probably not that)
Work- Music
Play- Music
Worship- Music

Nice and impressive post in many cases we are doing work with music and I download latest music on jhankar.pk
fanks Monteeeeeee
If I'm lucky I can manage maybe 3hrs per day on music
but probably more like two — say, 15 hours per week. And that means that, across the year, for every album that I give 3hrs per week to, that's 150 albums I don't get to listen to at all (or 150 second/third listens that I don't get to enjoy).
It's all trade offs and compromises. I would like to be able to listen to quite a few albums a lot more than I do, but there are also others that I've only listened to once or twice that I'd like to give a third or fourth listening (not to mention those new releases that I'd also like to have the chance to hear).
My LastFm would imply this would apply to:
FOTL
Vitalic
SFA
Juan Maclean
Phantom Band
Micachu
Shout out out out out
Kong
This last fortnight it's been
girls album. Other than that I can't think of a new album from this year I've listened to that much. I've picked up some older stuff I've liked alot though.
I never listen to albums that often.
But I think I've listened to the Bat For Lashes album quite a lot more than any other album.
Paramore
FOTL - Travels
Port O'brien - Threadbare
.
off the top of my head...micachu, bowerbirds, the xx and wild beasts. but then i have a bad memory
since i got the bowerbirds album i've spun it once though it was very poor
Memory Tapes seek magic has been a constant listen
Grass widow s/t
Clues by Clues.
That's the only one. Most of the albums I've heard this year have been just okay, mostly, while Clues' album is good. I haven't heard any great albums this year.
I've heard one awesome one and a few really good ones.
must be the calm before the storm
it's blitz! yeah yeah yeahs
twilight sad
pheonix
The Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca
Paramore - brand new eyes
The Mountain Goats - Life of the World to Come
...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead - Century of Self
Dirty Projectors*
Wildhearts - Chutzpah........
....and Danananananaykroyd - Hey Everyone.
Really?
I thought it was a bit shit. I prefer the two free downloads they gave away (monkey something or other & Zen Requiem)
I reckon
it's an astonishing CD. I think it's up there with their best albums. I got the Japanese version with Zeen Requiem on it...class song!
I am, however, a bit bias cos they are my fav band of all time.
they were mine for a good long time too
i was just disappointed and some of the lyrics, namely 'two squares of green and blacks, sitting watching tits and ass' or whatever it is, is horrible.
bitte orca
thats probably it
Wild Beasts
and Dirty Projectors, even though I like the latter less with each play. I'm waiting for that to reverse.
Wall of Arms
over and over and over and over...
20 mins walk to work is when i get my daily dose.
albums that I bought earlier in the year but keep still keep re-visiting a lot
only 2
The Black Dog - Further Vexations
Moderat - Moderat
Of recent releases the only one I think I will still be listening to regularly in 6 months time is Tarot Sport
Forgot Worriedabout Satan as well - so 3 in total
Jamie T
Animal Collective
FOTL
Anti pop consortium
Brand new
monsters of folk
This is just off the top of my head
but I've listened to Monoliths & Dimensions, Zu's Carboniferous, Cobalt's Gin, Nadja's When I See the Sun Always Shines on TV, and Current 93's Aleph At Hallucinatory Mountain and the Fever Ray album pretty regularly since they came out. I'm pretty sure those are going to be the top 6 albums of the year for me too, although not necessarily in that order.
I also
regularly go back to Eagle Twin's The Unkindness of Crows, that's definitely up there too.
to my knowledge; it was you
made the 1st Monoliths & Dimensions report at DiS- even before John Doran.
: )
I am downloading "Aelph At Hallucinatory Mountain" right now- Haven't heard that one yet.
Yeah, first thing I posted here
The UK distributor sent it to me a week early. I can't say I listen to it three times a week, but I return to it pretty regularly. You'll like Aleph At Hallucinatory Mountain, it's got a pretty heavy OM and Grails and James Blackshaw (who plays on the album) influence.
P.O.S.- Never Better
Camera Obscura- My Maudlin Career
Fuck Buttons- Tarot Sport
this year i seem to be quite repetitive
in my listening habits.
I would say all these bands/albums have been at least once a week if not more. soem that were released at the start of the year have been replaced by newer stuff, but I still get them in at least once a fortnight.
So here's them:
Cobalt
Ilyas Ahmed
Wild Beasts
A Place To Bury Strangers
Velvet Davenport
Sian Alice Group
Le Loup
Teitanblood
Pissed Jeans
Awesome Wells
I'm really starting to warm to that Sian Alice Group album
it revolved around
First Song-Angelina for a long time with me, it builds into that Yann Tiersen kind of hook to the end that makes me want to go through the whole album again to hear it so it's gotten me into it from there.
Also been listening to these an awful lot that i forgot ystrdy:
Black Eagle Child
Plankton Wat
Heavy Winged
Eternal Tapestry
Silver Bullets
Worriedaboutsatan
and the new Cloaks release on Students of Decay has been listened to twice a day since I got it last week.
apart from worried..., that's all real out-folk psych drone kind of stuff. heady beauty.
On my first couple of listens I kind of didn't notice the album
so to speak. No song in particular caught my ear, and not having those anchor points often means not getting into the album even though it's completely listenable and even interesting overall.
But I was giving it one more listen as preparation for removing it from my iPhone when "Vanishing" stood out and suddenly made me realise that this IS an interesting album that deserves much closer attention. It's won a reprieve...
these two
dm stith - heavy ghost (so so SO sublime)
pissed jeans
The Mars Volta - Octahedron
Patrick Wolf - The Bachelor
Mew - No More Stories
DOOM - Born Like This
perhaps not daily, but i listen to those ones A LOT.
unfortunately for me this year has largely been about playing catch-up
on the rest of the decade, so much so that I'm putting back my top 100 of the 00s just so I can have more time to evaluate all the wonderful music that came out when I was 10, or that I overlooked when 15 because I was too busy being into Klaxons. that said:
Two Dancers
MPP
Primary Colours
Fever Ray
Tonight: Franz Ferdinand
my likely top five, have got the most plays. I need to give more time to Manics, Danananaykroyd and Big Pink because they're all getting there.
These have been getting heaps of plays;
Japandroids - 'Post-nothing'
Mars Volta - 'Octahedron'
The Mint Chicks - 'Screens'
Antlers - 'Hospice'
Cymbals Eat Guitars - 'Why there are mountains'
Crystal Antlers - 'Tentacles'
Decoder Ring - 'They Blind The Stars, and the Wild Team'
There is obviously more but these are the ones that will get a show in at least once a day, mostly while I am procrastinating at work on DIS..
do you have to count the "A's" when you log in?
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9?
I'm going to check out the Mars Volta one.
The xx - xx
The Cribs - Ignore The Ignorant
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz
St. Vincent - Actor
Merriweater...
I'm still finding new parts to it that I love, one of my albums of the decade.
I had it recommended to me the other day "for my own good"
I still haven't really heard it. I wasn't much impressed by their earlier albums so I've just stayed clear of it.
Albums that let you find "new parts" are the best ones.
: )
Twilight Sad - Forget the Night Ahead
Idlewild - Post-Electric Blues
Hope Sandoval - Through the Devil Softly
Doves - Kingdom of Rust
None
Depressing. Maybe I'll have to revise my opinion on illegal downloading destroying music.
There are no albums I regularly listen to 3 times a week
... I don't think there's anything I wouldn't get bored of if I listened to that often. The last time I listened to an album that much was probably Horse of the Dog when I was 16. Anyway, closest to it is probably The Wave Pictures.
You are either deprived and dispossessed or I am depraved and obsessed.
Not good no matter how you cut it but I'd still rather be me.
And no one is asking you not to be
I probably do have quite a short attention span - I used to hardly ever listen to full albums at all! My fickle listening habits make me happy though. :)
80'MB-LD
good call on Horse of the Dog! if there's any album from that time that i listened to to death it would have been that one.
Horse of the Dog? hilarious name
what's the music like?
fuckin' badass man, badass!!!
"It's coming for your mother
Human soul consumin' roarin'
All the rabid mouths are foamin' for your mother
And like a birthday boy
You've got to do it well"
retro jive-roller killbilly lunk-punk. It's pretty exciting stuff. 10 tracks over in 26 minutes. you've easily got time for this in your life.
we'll see
rabid mouths foamin' for my mother- who couldn't find time for that?
thanks
Pains Of Being Pure At Heart
Crystal Stilts
Richard Hawleys new one but that's not been out long
and I'd imagine between now and end of the year the Flaming Lips will be getting a fair amount of play
Jason Lytle, Mastodon and Propagandhi
for me albums seem to slip in and out of listening rotation
but for the last couple of weeks I've been listening to:
Cobalt 'Gin'
Action Beat 'The Noise Band From Bletchley'
Mount Eerie 'Winds Poem'
Kong 'Snake Magnet'
Japandroids 'Post Nothing'
Raekwon - OB4CL2
POS - Never Better
Nosaj Thing - Drift
ISIS - Wavering Radiant
Mind you, this is like once a week, which is quite a lot for me.
Not as much as three times a week, but these get played a lot...
Isis - Wavering Radiant
And So I Watch You From Afar - s/t
worriedaboutsatan - Arrivals
Sonic Youth - The Eternal
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
Malcolm Middleton - Waxing Gibbous
The Phantom Band - Checkmate Savage
LIVING WITH A TIGER by ACOUSTIC LADYLAND
i've listened to the soundcarriers album a fair bit
and the last six organs record has been on the deck a couple of times since i got it last week. i think they might be the only albums i've bought this year that have come out in 2009! that's a bit crap.
well
Phoenix
Twilight Sad
My Latest Novel
Arctic Monkeys
The Longcut
The Veils - Sun Gangs
Aside from that, the only one I can think of is Mew's No More Stories, though it hasn't been out all that long.
i need to listen to that more often
didnt warm to it half as much as nux vomica or the runaway found
Do
It's a really great album. I actually found it much more instant than Nux Vomica, but all of the albums are probably on a par for me in terms of overall quality.
I'd also recommend making the effort of getting into Larkspur - it's not the easiest track on the album, but it's definitely the most rewarding.
James Blackshaw - The Glass Bead Game
if you'd asked me 3 months ago it would have been merriweather post pavillion, but i haven't listened to it in ages. think i overplayed it a bit
MMP...
in particular 'Lion In A Coma', I have cained that song and it just dosen't get old. Is that song anyone else's favourite?
Casiotone for the Painfully alone
maybe once a week, nothing I think 3 times so:
Lightning Bolt-Earthly Delights
Celan- Halo
the xx - xx
wild beasts
dj quik and kurupts album
merriweather PP
good albums
Oh yah
those too.
Obits quite a bit and FOTL.
Wild Beasts, completely
I've loaded the car CD multiplayer with:
Grizzly Bear
Arctic Monkeys
The Field
The Maccabees
Passion Pit and
Friendly Fires
in an attempt to listen to them more. Grizzl Bear and the Field are winning the race the last few days. Not the hippest collection on here, obviously.
Atlas Sound - Logos
just Brand New really
Journal For Plague Lovers - Manic Street Preachers
has been the most consistently reached for of my 2009 purchases, probably because of the opening three tracks.
even though i've only had it since monday
i have basically listened to nothing else apart from "logos" by Atlas Sound. Seriously, i think in the last week i have listened to the pains of being pure at heart album twice, half of the fleet foxes album and the strange boys album two and a half times and then nothing else but logos. More spread out over the year though, probably Phoenix, TPOBPAT and the new vivian girls have had the heaviest rotations.
easy choice, untill...
'I had the blues but shook them lose' by Bombay Bicycle Club as been a favourite this year, but i think the best release of 2009 has got to go to 'XX' by The XX, ignore either at your peril
Jamie T
gone maybe two days without listening to it since release, really is epic.
The Twilight Sad - Forget The Night Ahead
Camera Obscura
James Yuill
The xx
Pheonix
very recently
i cant stop listening too
Brand new - daisy
Gold Panda - Before (well more of a mini album
James
Sunset Rubdown "Dragonslayer
Arctic Monkeys "Humbug"
The Mars Volta "Octahedron"
Beirut "March of the Zapotec: Disc 1"
Franz Ferdinand "Tonight"
Rodrigo and Gabriela "11:11"
I still can't believe there's a band named "Sunset Rubdown"
Does anyone know how or why that happened (the name)?
Boredoms - Super Roots 10
Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport
Part Chimp - Thriller
Lightning Bolt - Earthly Delights
Venetian Snares - Filth
Sunn O))) - Monoliths and Dimensions
most days i manage at least an album's worth of music
but teaching music means listening while working isn't a possibility...
grammatics - grammatics
our first american friends - tubelord
architect of this church - hope & social
antibodies - sky larkin
still end up putting on music for 18 musicians by steve reich every time energy levels hit the red zone (about once a week)
loads...i listen to music constantly, but these have been on heavy rotation
caspian - tertia
mono - hymn to the immortal wind
fuck buttons - tarot sport
twilight sad - forget the night ahead
the longcut - open hearts
russian circles - geneva
Only a few this year
Oneida - Rated O
The Pains of being pure at heart
Monsters of Folk
The Pink Mountaintops - Outside Love
Asobi Seksu - Hush
I finally got that
latest yeah yeah yeahs record on saturday & must've off listened to it about twice/3 times a day since.
