Best Queens Of The Stone Age Album???
No matter how many times I listen to it Songs For The Deaf never fails to amaze me and still don't get bored of it now even after listening to it over the past couple of years!
What are other people's opinions on the best QOTSA album?

Queens of The Stone Age
Rated R by a million desert rocks
Still love that album. Songs For The Deaf was such a disappointment by comparison, a few good moments amongst acres of dull.
are you serious mate,
I find Songs for t'deaf far superior, its crammed full of chooons.
Yet your opinion is quite popular which always amazes me
I agree
I had the firt 3 albums when i was really into them about 8 or 9 years ago, Rated R is the only I've kept. The tracks are more inventive and there is more variety than on the other albums.
Rated R
Is my favourite I use to listen to it loads and party with mates. They all have good bits on them though.
rated r
without a doubt, definitely the most consistent.
Rated R is the only real answer...
Was my favorite album about 5 years ago. Its a phenomenal rock album.
'Songs for the deaf' for me
And I have a soft spot for 'Lullabies..."
Rated R is the only choice.
It's way sleazier and more fun than any of their other stuff, I think they got too self serious after it.
Musically I would think that Rated R is probably a "better" album
But more fun??? No way, SFTD is so much more fun and is the album I'd throw on first.
i wouldnt be without any of the first three in my collection
cannot choose between them, though from an objective point of view I think Rated R is the "best" or most important album of the three.
Rated R, easily.
Songs For The Deaf feels smothered in comparison.
Rated R
but I also really, really like Queens of the Stone Age loads too, possibly even about the same as I do Rated R.
bandwagon time!
rated r...but self titled does have the tour de force that is regular john.....
Probably an unpopular view
but my favourite is Lullabies to Paralyze
Wow...
I'm shocked. I honestly thought 80% of responses would say 'SFTD'?
Some of the songs on it are a bit meh
and the whole radio thing grates a bit after a few listens. Rated R is good all the way through pretty much.
Rated R FTW
with the debut a (very) close second. The best tracks on SFTD are very good indeed, but - like every QotSA album since - it has waaaaaay too much filler.
Either S/T or Rated R
Song for the Deaf would be a contender were it not for the awful production. So so so bad, completely ruins it for me. Shame.
Rated R
One of my favourite albums ever.
Songs for the Deaf
for me it's a perfect blend of thrashy rock sounds and slow burning melancholia.
Rated R
because its so much fun and had no filler... unlike every other QOTSA album
Probably going to agree with Rated R.
Though I haven't been able to pick up the first album anywhere- Record Shops you fucking suck.
Apparently
"In a September, 2008 issue of NME Magazine, Josh Homme stated that he was going to remaster the 1998 self titled album for a November 2008 release. Since, the release date has been pushed back to November 2009."
Aaah. That might explain it.
Cheers.
Rated R.
R is for 'Really is the best Queens of the Stone Age album'.
hmm,
fail, pressed enter too early...
Anyway, Rated R is my favourite I think, for the reasons other people have given, plus it was the first thing of theirs I got. SFTD has some great songs, but has too much filler, as does lullabies for the paralyzed, though I like the darker atmosphere on that album. The first one is good too, though the last one was pretty meh really.
Songs for the Deaf
Great singles and epic album tracks (Songs for the Deaf, Millionaire, Sky is Fallin). Maybe some filler but overall more good tracks than on Rated R. Lullabies is pretty consistent and I like the darkness of it.
QOTSA 7
Rated R 8
SFTD 9
Lullabies 8
Era Vulgaris 8 (I'm Designer :) )
the first album is my favourite
by light years.
rated r
then era vulgaris
Song for the deaf isnt that good, I like all the other albums more than it
Songs for the Deaf, 1st four songs are so damn good it's ridiculous
Rated R and S/T a close 2nd
Rated R could have been their best but it's just a couple of songs too short for my liking. Ode to Clarissa is a shit hot B side mind you.
Lullabies and Era cant fight amongst themselves, only about 5 good songs between them
Rated R by a million million miles
Songs for the Deaf isn't that great. A few good songs but over the course of the album it gets bloated, over long and self-indulgent.
I wouldn't even put it in my top three.
Lullabies
Lullabies to Paralyze has such a gentle and dark groove. I like almost all of them.
Then I have to go for Era Vulgaris (I'm Designer:D).
And on the third place I have Songs for the Deaf.
Sorry guys, but Rated R isn't in my top 3. It's my fourth place.
Last: Queens of the Stone Age
Seems like I like their newer stuff better. But, I also like Kyuss a lot. And Kyuss is like the pre-qotsa (much heavier though). Welcome to Sky Valley would be my 3 (Songs for the Dead to 4) and on 5 I would put Sons of Kyuss (the very first EP Josh released).
Peace
i'd still say songs for the deaf, but it is the only one i've listened consistently to since it came out
i really like dirtier sound of the first album though, and then rated r is just so mental that you can't really not love it (quick and to the pointless is one of my favourites)
sftd (lol, that's nearly std!!!) is one of those albums that i tend to "forget" about and tell myself that i've grown bored of, but then i'll listen to it again and it'll blow me away. as an *album*, i think it's the best, as the two preceding ones have never really had that kind of effect on me.
i've not bothered with the later efforts.
they've only done 1 good lp & it ain't sftd
QOTSA 2
Rated R 10
SFTD 6
Lullabies 4
Era Vulgaris 3
2/10 for the self-titled one
Do
you
have
ears?
It's amazing. The first two albums are hard, creepy and succinct. After that they started to get a bit bloaty (but still with flashes of brilliance), so it was good to get back to the short sharp hits on Era Vulgaris.
i was being generous you right
maybe -2 for the self-titled one, it's a shit LP can't believe how over-rated it is, a terrbile, terrible LP I can see why they became after Rated R which is one of the greatest LPs ever, had they never released this LP they would be nowhere, shame they could never keep up these high standards, SFTD was okay bit too much filler such as 'the sky is falling', 'six shooter', 'go with the flow', 'gonna leave you', 'do it again', 'god is on the radio', another love song' and 'a song for the deaf' and not enough stone cold killer tracks such as 'you tink i ain't worth a dollar but i feel like a millionnaire', ' no one knows', 'first it giveth' & ' a song for the dead', in fact again 6/10 is probably a generous when only 4 out of the 13 tracks off the lp are any good, but too be fair these four tracks are master pieces
get out
I'm throwing my support behind SFTD
one of the finest hard rock albums I've heard.
i'm going to end up listening to qotsa for the rest of the day now
Rated R
I agree on the production thing mentioned earlier of SFTD. It just doesn't sound quite right although I couldn't tell you what it is. This thread has made me put on Rated R and every song just sound brilliant.
Maybe I should give the newer stuff another listen as I haven't really paid much attention since SFTD.
Self titled it has to be.
I've never really been a QOTSA fan really. I remember being disappointed when Rated R came out as I was the biggest Kyuss fan at the time.
It's Songs For The Deaf for me
Rated R is very very good, but Songs for the Deaf is one of the first albums I ever owned so it gives me a sense of nostalgia which Rated R doesn't as much.
def between
rated r and QOTSA.
it depends what day i'm having
sftd has way too much filler
and the filler is mostly shit.
rated r is close to perfection, but s/t IS perfection. it was just a couple of dudes jamming out and having fun.
lullabies is the weakest. i don't get the hate for erav. it's pretty good. way too compressed though.
agreed
a remastered self-titled would JUST pip Rated R i think. you're maybe a bit harsh about SFTD, if it were three average tracks shorter it'd probably be up there with the first two albums.
i haven't listened to Lullabies for years - the only track i really loved i'd heard hundreds of times on the Desert Sessions. it was also probably the first time the whole "dark" aesthetic felt totally fake as well, it was so effortless on tracks like Better Living Through Chemistry and I Think I Lost My Headache. i've not bought Era Vulgaris for fear that it's just as bad (the singles didn't do that much for me).
Era Vulgaris...
..is very much the dark horse of them. It might not have the standout singles some of the others have but all the tracks are solid and each bring something to the table. Very little filler. Great album now that I think about it.
Songs for the Deaf
but even that drags its heels towards the end. QotSA will have such a kick-ass best-of
none of you are cool enough
to claim the Kyuss/QOTSA Split Album for being the best. Fools.
i own that
the gamma ray side is a bit overshadowed by Kyuss
a number of months back I threw on SFTD while playing San Andreas
it was so, so epic
SFTD is £2.99 on Play at the moment.
Just thought I'd mention that.
SFTD
Just because then intro to "Song for the dead" is one of the best things my ears have ever heard!!
