are rock promoters poorer than electronic/experimental/noise promoters or just greedier?
while in a band I was used to the promoter rule that you get paid according to how many you bring....fair enough.
But since I started gigging my noise and electronic stuff recently I've met a different culture...where it is just the norm to pay EVERYONE that plays even if the promoter makes a loss..even getting paid for free shows..
I thought this was a very generous considering I don't have a large following for these new projects….but after a bit I realised this was kind of the norm
Now sure it should be the other way round? As rock/indie promoters have a larger audience surely it should be the norm to pay bands..no...well at least expenses for travelling if from another city?
Yet a mate's band just did a roundtrip to an alldayer which was charged up north and they didn'get a single penny and didn't expect anything.
